Chennai will host the 23rd FIBA Asian women’s basketball championship from September 17 to 24. The championship will be held in two divisions and India, which topped the Second Division in Korea two years ago, will be making its premier division debut this time.
“Chennai will be hosting the women’s Asian championship for the first time ever,” said the national body’s Selection Committee Chairman P. J. Sunny.
The Indian camp for the championship will be held in Indore from July 13 to August 26. India, ranked 44 in the world, have last year’s Beijing Olympics semifinalist China (World No. 6), Korea (9), Japan (15), Chinese Taipei (21) and Thailand (No. 40) for company in the premier division.
The top three finishers of the elite division will qualify for next year’s World championship in the Czech Republic.
