Following on from this performance at the World Championships I think GREECE will be the team to beat at 2008 Olympics as this nucleus of players can acheive great things after becoming champions in Japan.

Basketball is becoming so competitive that you never know who will become the Champion.
I believe this year there were 4 very strong teams and the order of the final result between these teams could have been very different.
In 2008 there will be even more strong teams. Maybe 6 or 7. Greece will be one of them, but there is no way you can tell if they will go all the way.
From now on a medal will be a great accomplishment.

i dont think so , greece is not so strong as we thought before , if usa had kobe and lithunia get more talent guy in their team , greece cant win them , hellas is as the same capability as turkey and australia and brasil , they cant beat australia up 3 0 points ,

I think that you are right!!!I think that you are brilliant my friend Batman!I think that Greece is even worst than Kuwait!!!And i think that you shouldn't bother watching basketball anymore...
P.S. As for the question i don't think that gold metal is an easy target but another medal is in our capabilities...

There is no almost in basketball.
Anyway, yes Greece can definitely win the gold medal in the Olympics, but so can other teams.

Difficult to say what will happen in 2 years time, I hope everyone will stay healthy and competitive, and hopefully some new guys might be added to the current roster. The team is really good and can set high goals once more...

Some of the comments I read, especially from some new members make me laugh. Ok, they might just be 15-16 years old and that shows their ignorance.
Just because we don't have 5-6 NBA players doesn't mean we don't have great players.
Just because we decide not to beat teams by 20-30 points each game means we are not as good as Spain or USA.
The fact that Kobe, Shaq or Jasikevicius and Siskauskas don't wont to play for their respective NT's is not our problem. We'll play who ever they present us with. Unfortunately the Greek Basketball Federation or players can't really do anything to make them play if they don't want to. It's like saying to me me "if I looked like Brad Pitt or Geroge Clooney, I would be sleeping with any woman I wanted. Well doggie, you don't look like them and you can't sleep with them either.
What they fail to see is that Greece, in the last 2 tournaments has lost only 2 games. 2nd place is a fantastic acheivement. No Greek was dissapointed or upset we lost. There was a 50% chance of happening, so it wasn't a sudden shock. This was proved that Greek fans after the game congregated at the city squares to celebrate 2nd spot which is our greatest acheivement.
In regards to some members who are from muppet countries and for some reason have an inferiority complex with Greece, a small nation which is very successful in sport, all I have to say is you'll be seeing us succeed and win medals for a very long time.
2004 European Champions in Football
2004 14 medals in the Olympic Games
2005 European Champions in Basketball
2005 Bronze medalists in Water Polo World Championships
2006 Silver Medalists in Basketball in World Championships
All this from a country that only has a population of 11 million.
Damn, I'm proud to be Greek.

Greece won't be having problems to be in the top-6 of the Olympics 2 years from now, but it's way too early to discuss about that. After all, the roster is not a given and some players may be forced to retire pretty soon, because of the internal competition.
As of the external competition, Greece will be facing some ridiculously talented countries in the coming Eurobasket, but, since it's not only about talent, I expect them to be among the qualified teams of the Olympics (what's the number? 3 or 4?) and it may not be that easy once again...

I think that this think never happened.

Why do you mention football on that list? There isnt any continuity on that..
