Riyadi and Champville will dominate this cup as usual the Lebanese teams dominate all the Arab cup and numbers can talk about it ,in my opinion all the other teams can t pass 50 % of champville and Riyadi Level ,Champville and riyadi are 2 teams from another planet of these other teams, the 2 Lebanese Teams are so strong for this teams ,Ittihad can have some impact but they will find a hard way to match riyadi or Champville these 2 are very strong teams and their levels is by far from all the other teams (Respect for Them but it s a fact) and we can see the 2 last editions Lebanese Pure finals with the presence of good arab Teams !!

Gazara, 3 foreigners in the same time on the floor are allowed, i think you mixed up with dubai tournament :D
the tournament is very weak, so for sure the Lebanese teams will dominate, but i also expect ASU to compete with having Sam Daghlas and Zaid Abbas on the roster!

ah okk it s my mistakee i will correct it ,thx dani ...the last 2 editions were more competitive ,Now ittihad are not that stronger as the past ,and riyadi and Champville are more stronger than last years ,ASU is a good team but also Riyadi and Champville are much better ...

i dont think it'll be such an easy tournement for riyadi and champville, i expect a huge fight from ASU with Osama douglas (best assister in the CBA) as their starting Pg,and zeid abbas (who also had a good showing in the CBA) on the roster + 3 super imports,i think they will be a tough team to match,so dont count them up just yet,i see them competing on the 1st or 3rd place at least.
as for champville,i think they will take larry Cox as their 3rd import and have him play the 5 along with benson on the 4,but knowing Sarkis,i think he might go with only 2 imports:)
Riyadi i think are the strongest contenders, with vogel + 3 foreigners on their roster i think the balance is hugely tipped into their favor.

Coach Abou Chacra should be smart and not play any of his major players big minutes as Riyadi will play in the Asian Championship just 3 days after the end of the Arab Championship...
Woods and Jean have been suffering from injuries this season so he shouldn't play them any extended minutes...
Last but not least Riyadi has won this tournament many times before while they haven't won the Asian Championship once :D...
Ittihad (Egypt), ASU (Jordan), Riyadi+Champville (Lebanon) will be the main teams qualifying to the semis and competing for the title with a slight advantage for both Lebanese teams....

I don't want to offend my Lebanese friends here, but I kind of hope that one of these other teams (ASU??) can stop Champville or Riyadi. Believe me, I love seeing Champville and Riyadi succeed internationally, but I'm starting to get tired of them, you know? Especially Riyadi...they're kind of like the Lakers for me. :D I'd be ecstatic if a team of pro-amatuers like the Algerians won.
[SIZE="3"]13-Lee Benson(208-C)(USA)(Foreigner) How long has he been playing for Champville? Last I heard, Lee Benson was still in China. I'm a big fan of Benson's. He's from my hometown. He's a great player and he could have gone to the NBA, but after his basketball season in high school, he "fell in" with the wrong crowd and had to go to jail for 8 years. Fortunately, he really turned his life around and has played all over the world now.

As Mavrick_h mentioned this is in reference to the Sharjah-Al Nasr final game of the Shabab Hand Ball Championship which ended 23-21 in favor of Sharjah ;)
I can tell you though that the Sharjah-Al Sale game went to OT and was a really close nice game to watch...As Sale won 101-99 (I watched the game on Abu Dhabi Sports +2 here in the UAE)... Some games are also being shown by Dubai Sports so if you can get access to these 2 channels then that would be great..
I will be planning to go to the stadium to watch some of the games but what sux are the timings of the games especially for the Lebanese teams...

I got to watch the Karekh-Bani Yas game from the stadium and took some photos.
Chudney+Norman were almost like the whole team of Karekh and they had bigger men and were able to play easily from under the basket. Bani Yas was able to get a lot of fouls and scored many of their points in the final quarter from the FT line.
Had a small chat with Chudney Gray and he was really happy when I recognized him and told him I always used to follow his games in Lebanon. He misses Lebanon and wants to go back there to play in the league :).
Also met up with Norman Nolan who was last playing in Kuwait.
Coach Kosai Hatem, who I also spoke with told me he's coaching Al Gharafa (Qatar) in this tournament.
Last but not least I saw Olajuwon's signed jersey on the wall in the stadium which it seems he presented to the team during his last visit to UAE this past December.
The timings for the Lebanese teams in this tournament sux but i'm hoping to catch the games of Riyadi on Thursday and Friday..

Awesome!! Gray is a good player. Very skilled. I just looked up his website at ChudneyGray.Com (http://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=1&ved=0CBkQFjAA&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.chudneygray.com%2F&ei=59bSTY6CH46WsgOcodSWCQ&usg=AFQjCNFTaBBaTfskDruwA5io2M7qrV6bwQ). You should send him your pics. I bet he'll put them up. He might even join IBN. :D Anyhow, pretty solid player for Saint John's. Great to see he's still playing professional basketball. Respect.

Lee didn't play the first game due a small accident 30 hours b4 the game ( 6 snatches ).
he Played for less than 20 mins in game 2... i dont have his states, but it was a seriously easy game to judge.
I guess Lee will have a bigger role today when he faces jameel watkins of ASU.

Chudney Gray was supposed to play the final 4 with champville , but his wife gave birth 3 days b4 the first game, so he couldn't make it.
Gray is getting Old, but obviously he's getting wiser and wiser day after day... huge leadership, amazing vision and ball handling with very high percentage from everywhere on the floor!
Money wise, he is absolutly the best player for that salary !

Actually I knew coach Kosay Hatem (Iraqi and married to a Lebanese) since he was a basketball player with Sagesse in the early 90's. He was a great player for them at the time (considering the league was still starting to pick up and improve after the civil war ended) and he helped them win a few championships as well as playing in the Arab Championship in the late 90's where he was an assistant coach for Sagesse back then and he came back from retirement to play with them and help them win the Arab Championship in Beirut along with the likes of Elie Mchantaf and Fadi Khatib...
After coaching in Lebanon for a few years he moved to the Gulf region where he has been coaching for a few years now...
Kosay Hatem, in my opinion, is the greatest Iraqi basketball player to have played the game.
Back to topic, I only exchanged a few words and pleasantries with him since he was already having a conversation with the coach of Al Karekh (Iraq)
P.S: You can see him in the second photo from the bottom left hand side... He's the one wearing the striped blue and white shirt with blue jeans on the left hand side of the pic.

Their import players are Boney Watson and Alexander McLean... I don't know about their 3rd import. Apparently they also have a naturalized player named Ousseynou N'Diaye.

As Daghlas played !!!! he played only 2 quarters , the Team is lost at all , played w/o any Plan ... Big Difference : in this Compeuititon ..... you always show your Muscles in Dubai cup ,Arabs cup = Friendly Tournaments , but in the Official Ones you are behind .... Now did Riyadi or Champvillee ever won ASIA Clubs Championship (Official) ?!! of course NOT but Zain did it Once and 1 time Second Place .....and Sagesse won it when teams like Ittihad Jeddah and Rayyan and Malisyan und Sry lanka Teams played :D

Guys, this is real love fest here. Keep in mind its just a game. The ASU team has played TWO games together with the current roster. My son-in-law, Ryan Forehan-Kelly, joined the team last week and thay hardly even practiced as some of the guys were not even around. They went on tours !!!
Anyway, Champville won this one. Give ASU a chance to figure each other out and then they may be able to compete a little stronger. I would really like to get the stats for this tournament. Is there ANY source that might have it?
Also, can someone explain the format for this tournament? Is there some sort of playoff?

well for some this team is going to win Asian Cup after 2 weeks from now.it seems they can't even match Champville's level. Mahram, Rayyan, Riyadi are stronger or near to the same level of Champville.
As for the format, last year the competition had 16 teams divided to 4 groups best 2 from each qualifies to second round. 8 teams divided on 2 groups in the second round best two from each qualifies to semi finals the first from group A plays against the second from the other one, etc. and then the finals
As for this year 12 teams divided to 2 groups 6 each
second round ? or straight quarter finals maybe ?!
option 1: the best 4 teams from each group qualifies for second round.two new groups will be created the rest like last year.
option 2: the best 4 teams from each group qualifies for second round and then the traditional QF the first A vs the fourth B, etc,....

u said ASU is a big team and will compete on the title ! Champville is a contender with Riyadi (Who s level is higher then Champville even if they have Khatib ) plz when u want to talk u have to be sure that ur words are correct ! i told u that we have a tough Teams and strong teams ! u said to me in your dream and always the same song ,today you were Smashed by Champville ! it was a practice for us
see u in Semis (but this time Vs Riyadi a difficult one) the level of Jordanian basketball decrease a lot and trust me ,No league nothing ...here we have a strong league one of the best ,don t tell me Abbas and Daghlas play in China ,we saw them today and they were Made in Chin ,like Rony and Sabah the same thing ,when they were back their level was a disaster
Did you see Jameel Today ?? lol also i told u he s not good because i watch him , i don t talk anything if i am not sure about my words

guys calm down,us lebanese have won the battle, but the war is far from over,ASU are still in the competition,we might eat our words
it's true that today's game was kind of a practice game for champville, but you can be sure that ASU didint say their last word, let's give them some credit, they might bounce back in the second round, they have some good players ( cant match khatib's skills but good nonetheless),and they are playing with the jordanian NT,i expect the 2nd match against riyadi to be a tough one, i guess riyadi will win +10.
anyways,it's to admire that the jordanian team is still competing specially with the situation in jordan basketball wise,so i say let's give them some credit, and let's not kick the lion when he's down, remmember that jordanian basketball witnessed a huge decline since 2009.
best of luck to our jordanian brothers.

Come on guys
Any more flaming posts of this nature will be given warnings... I will delete some of the posts as well.
I didn't get to watch the game but we have to remember that Champville's players are more in sync especially the team came directly after the end of the season while ASU has 5 main new players who are still getting acquainted with the team... And this game is still in the first round. I'm sure ASU will get better as the tournament progresses...
What is clear though is that at the moment the Lebanese teams are playing better and at a higher level than the other teams and I prefer if we let the results on court do the talking rather than here in the forums

Congrats Gharrafa ,Hard luck Riyadi
i believe Riyadi will be the Champion ,last year same thing loose in the first Round then come to finals and take the title

Today was a horrible game by Riyadi....The players looked lost on court, tired, not focused, shots weren't going in... You name it.
I hope they can get back and play a better game tomorrow and I hope that Ali Mahmoud's injury isn't too serious.
Jean Abdel Nour still isn't 100% and I could see he wasn't comfortable playing even though when I asked him if he's fine before the game he gave me the thumbs up sign...
As for Al Gharrafa they're not that great of a team but it was clear that none of their starting 5 players are originally Qatari especially if one of them is called N'Diaye  (Most are African players)

FAC is trying to give the players more chemistry than win a game that was obvious enough...losing a game will not affect a team but gaining more stability will give a team championships.
he played with Jean more than Omar , Moe played most of the time than Ali. Giving more time for Som3a and Loren together on the field.
also Riyadi were unlucky today very bad shooting percentage.
better to lose now then later.
And looooooooooooll @ Gharrafa 7 players all foreigners the rest are quataris but they never play above they barely can win

What Chemistry you talking about !? Riyadi plays with the same Roster since Months and they played FLB League together .... Nate Johnson plays with Riyadi since 2 years ... same for others .... no new players at all in this Compeition !!
Just don't make execuses , Gharrafa humiliated Riyadi ... you better admitt it ... they played with 7 Imports or even 12 it's not an excuse ... big team don't care about others ... who plays who don't play ! Get Real for aSecond

Very bad game by Riyadi, they deserve to loose after what they offered today!!
Their rythm is very slow, specially that most of their players are relying on creating shots for themselves not for each other, but this loss is ok as much as it is in the first round!
And i still wonder why Coach Fouad kept on Ismael while he is delivering nothing, he could have pushed in Ali kanaan or William Pharis whom both are playing very well!

actually ASU is a big team, with very good local players... but after a small experience with the CBA league, whoever plays there, comes back to a stronger league with a performance of a rookie !
Is that Sam duglas ?seriously ... !

Cause your way of talk is not realistic at all , what the hell is that (Thanking Ghassan Sarkis) ? ---- The most famous Trouble maker in the Lebanese Basketball History , along with El cheikh Fadi el Khatib ! am wondering why is he called (Cheikh) !!!
CBA League is the Best in Asia , nobody can deny it but the long Season there by playing about 50 games and getting back to play in Arab Clubs Championship ( which is ZERO beside CBA) will make their Level Drop . No Chemistry at all + Coach who has no Basketball Vision & no Personality + 2 Imports who has nothing to do with being Imports , we don't need imports at all , all these things will lead to such Results .
You know who is Sam Daghlas and who is Zaid abbas and Ayman Idais , no need to remind you

Congrats for Champville on their important win today. It wasn't an easy game but they managed to make a come back in the second half and get the win... Khatib was really great with 33 points. Thompson had a very good game as well with 20 points. I like the hussle of Nadim Hawi who was able to somehow miss the gap that was left with Lee Benson's injury... It looked quite serious and he couldn't walk on his leg as he left the court so he had to be carried off court :(...
As for Riyadi I don't know what to say other than once again they played a very horrible game even though they were just a bit better than last night....
I could definitely see how much the absence of Ali Mahmoud affects the team... Without him, due to his injury, Riyadi didn't have the right chemistry and looked lost on the court with a lot of turnovers and no proper system.
Mohamad Ibrahim, due to some bad calls from the ref at the beginning of the game, took it personal and started arguing with the ref at every single call and that made him lose his concentration. Amir played extensive minutes in the game yet he doesn't have the required experience to play such a tough game....I don't know why coach Abou Chacra didn't use a bigger rotation of players...
Moreover Sala is a real tough team to play against (play very physical and have very tough defense) and they actually will be competing for this championship. They also as happen to be one of the best African teams.
But for sure if this is how Riyadi will be playing next week in the Asian Cup Championship in Philippines next week then they are in huge trouble and would probably not even qualify to the next rounds of the competition.
I'll hopefully upload some photos from today's games here tomorrow.

FAC Should now play in the roster of WABA or Roster of FLB

Fadi El Khatib till now is the Best player in the tournament every Game 30+ he s playing very well these days and we have to not miss that Champville are missing one of their Key players: Lee Benso who s injured !
As For Riyadi hope tomorrow they will be back to their real level and beat the UAE team al sharjah ,i think Nate is playing like this shit because he played all the Season for Riyadi and give for the team a lot and play from his heart then come to UAE and Riyadi said to him:it s your last championship this year ,You will be OUT in ASIA ,for sure he will loose the spirit and everything ,i think FAC Should not start with Nate ,he should Start with Mohammad ibrahim (instead of Ali who s injured) ,Omar on pos 2 who can easily hit 3 pts ,Jean on 3 ,Ismail on 4,and Loren on 5
the combination Ismail-Nate-Woods isn t good at all

I didn't have the chance to watch ASU in this tournament yet so I decided to stay at the stadium and watch their game (I probably was the only Lebanese guy in the stadium who stayed after the Champville game to watch ASU playing :D)
I could notice that there was good team chemistry between the players in this game. Mussa Awadi started off shooting a couple of quick 3's and eventually everyone else caught up with him. Enver also was on fire as once he started scoring his 3's there was no one stopping him. He ended up with 17 points with 5 3PT FG's.
Sam Daghlas showed a few nice highlights especially one great alleyoop to Ryan Kelly who dunked it with authority... Ayman Idais even at such an age remains an amazing player. He ended up with 16 points.
As for the foreigners Jameel had a descent game and scored 16 points.
Ryan Kelly ended up with 8 points if I remember correctly and it seems he's slowly getting better as the tournament is progressing...
As for Bani Yas, well they lost all their matches if i'm not mistaken and they are the weakest team in this group. It was their foreigners who only scored during the game until the last few minutes of the game when all the subs from teams were playing.
Here are some pics from the game.. I managed to take a few pics with the Abbas brothers after the game since they were the first guys to leave from the changing rooms to spend time with their family here in the UAE. I am not kidding but the Abbas brothers had more than 20 family members cheering for them :D (Including the kids and ladies)..

when you tell a player 'we don't need you anymore and this is your last championship' after an extraordinary year being MVP of the year in the league and the best import in WABA what did you expect ?
Ismail came and everything turned to crap.
don't tell me they've won the league with Som3a coz it was just one import change Loren for Ismail
now they have the WABA players added to the league and Ismail, lack of chemistry, players out of system , Ali's injury and a bad management every time they bring someone out of the blue and expect in 10 days to win Arab and Asia...it's always same problem.
6 players playing pos 4 & 5 = wrong formation.
Send Ismail away keep Nate, Loren Ali when he's back Omar Ali K or Billy on 4
Jean will recover shway shway if they want to bring Fadi fine
A team full of stars lacks chemistry.
The key of Champville's success is that they kept every single player with them and brought one additional import which sometimes they were playing with only 2 on court.
and now after Lee's injury they are starting the game with one import and then Jay comes in.

nate was proved to be doping with a lot of other foreigner players in our league including larry cox and j. youngblood, but mysteriously the second doping test was negative for all players except champville's foreigners, maybe charlock holmes can solve this obvious mystery.
i don't know what's happening to riyadi, the only think i know is that they don't deserve to win tomorrow's game, champville are playing real basketball despite playing with 2 foreigners and with a depleted bench.

true but remember the starting 5 of Riyadi in WABA and FLB league was the same.
now we have Jean recovering back Nate careless Ali injured Omar lost confidence cause Jean is playing more than him also Ismail-Woods isn't the perfect combination plus the thing with Fadi coming to play in Asia will confuse any player in that position since Fadi is a leader and that means basically one of the regular guys in the team will sit on the bench in Asia...they should have not announce Fadi's coming in Asia
About Nate's doping i believe doing such thing will let a player be powerful physically like he can't get tired...what about his shots, his percentage it's dropped massively he used to make every single one of them.
As for Chemistry problems:
Jean - Ismail
Ismail - Woods
Nate - Ismail - Woods
Ismail - Moe
Ismail - Ali K
Ismail - Billy
even the rest of the guys they played 6 games together with Ismail

The game Riyadi played last night was simply appalling/disgusting...
The team simply is playing without any energy like they don't even care...
Coach FAC didn't even say anything... He just had his hands crossed the whole time.
Riyadi imo shouldn't have participated in this tournament if they wanted to come here to the UAE for vacation... I have more things to say regarding this but out of respect for Riyadi I will not say them...At least for now that is.
I hope all the fans today just cheer for Lebanon and Lebanese basketball (instead of Riyadi or Champville) and may the best team win and hopefully compete for the Championship.
I wasn't even in the mood to take pics yesterday so I only took a few:

The game between Sal and Dar Al Baydaa was quite entertaining and went to OT even though Sal would still qualify in first place from their group even if they lost the game (which is what happened)...
Dar Al Baydaa (Algeria) kept fighting till the end not only to get their first victory but also since was like a duel/battle between Algeria and Morocco, the 2 North African Countries.
Some pics from the game:

imo riyadi's problem now is the following :
Nate knowing the fact that he's not joining for Asia, which means wether he played or not in arab, its already done for him ( and probably wont come back next year , since ish signed for 3 years ).
the come back of jean and woods was a disaster, the first took omar's place ( which killed the confidence of omar, and woods is a dead man playing ) i would have tried ali kanaan as a starter.
second, its the lack of management and the worst long term planning ever .
But again, i'll say what i said in the lebanese basketball group, regardless of who's gona read this post ...
The only reason why riyadi is winning the lebanese league, is bcz of the size advantage gained by Joe Vogel.
when they played the last 3 teams in arab pan, they had zero size advantage... so they lost!
I'm cheering for champville, as always...

I just watched the game between Champville and Riyadi. Champville won narrowly, by the way.
Usually, I donīt watch a lot of Middle East basketball so I am not an expert at all but I was kind of shocked at the lack of quality of the import players, on both teams. I heard that these teams pay big money for their import guys and I wonder why. You can see that they are not motivated at all, even though they might have been good one day, especially Loren Woods and Nate Johnson. They look as if they are only collecting paychecks, Johnson could not even inbound the ball in the key possession of the 4th quarter and then he was smiling while losing the game. The Egyptian big guy was horrible, too, only complaining all the time.
Garnett Thompson is an athletic streetball player but he has no basketball IQ, at all. The only import I liked a bit was Youngblood. I had seen him at Kent and in Austria before, he is skilled and can do different things on the court but he probably makes the least money of all those guys.
I was also disappointed in El-Khatib; I had heard so much about him. You can see that he is skilled but he forces too much and looks kind of old.
The guy I liked best was the SG on Champville; he made key three pointers, played smart and did not force anything.
I wonder why the teams donīt sign younger, hungry guys for less money...

The game you just watched Was between two teams with a huge dif in budgets...
riyadi's budget is like 3X champville's ...
And champville were missing the american center Lee benson , due to an injury since game 2 in this tourney .
Jay youngblood's salary is the lowest between all 6 imports, not to mention that lorren woods is getting paid per month more than the starting line up for champville :)
Garnett thompson joined the team for this cup , so the chemistry with him is a bit " under construction " ... but he did well in my opinion .

Thanks for these insights, I did not know the differences were that big. I did not mean to say that Garnett Thompson is a bad player, he surely is talented, will grab a lot of rebounds, etc. but I donīt think he understands the game too well.

The fact is, Riyadi also have joe vogel the neutralized 211 CM center , when champville in this game had Nadim hawi ( not to be compared ) 203 CM center ... who only played for less than half the game . thats when garnett started to play the 5, which is not his role actually !

great win for champville, not to be underestimated as i noticed that riyadi were playing better basketball then their last 3 games, specially with jean performing good.
but i guess that in the end coach ghassan and Fadi's experience gave champville the game.
i'm really surprised to see thomson playin this way, i could never've imagined that coach ghassan would make use of him this way,it's like he's a completely different player, not the same clown playin for sagesse, he was even hitting the 3s :D
it just goes to show that coach ghassan can make good use of his players unlike someone:rolleyes:

For ASU's game : Jameel Watkins 16 pts , Sam Daghlas 14 , Ayman Idais 13 , Zaid Abbas 12 , Mousa Awadi 10 as for Forehan-Kelly may be 6 points from two shots from the Arc .... I agree, I think Riyadi's management are lost and don't know what they need to do to save face...
Imo they should have stayed with Nate+Loren who played with them for most of the season.
If Riyadi manage to get Thompson they will have a team of 5 players where each is playing on his own like previously used to happen when Riyadi plays in such tournaments and that still will not guarantee them to win anything...
Really, deciding to play in this Arab championship was so wrong of a decision by Riyadi that it screwed up everything for them (mentally/emotionally/psychologically...you name it)
1) They took this championship for granted.
2) They didn't really care about winning this championship since they have already won it 5 times before.
3) Players here were on vacation rather than preparing well for the Asian Championship.
So obviously this tournament had a much more negative impact+outcome for Riyadi rather than a positive one...
If Riyadi had decided to have a small camp whether internally or outside Lebanon where they might have played against some European teams I think that would have been way better for them.
Anyways I don't think last minute changes are going to do anything now... What Riyadi needs to do is regroup themselves and try to believe (this is where coach Fouad has to do alot of work) that they can be able to compete with the other teams in the Asian Championship and have a chance to to reach the later stages of the competition....
And I am saying all this because I am a Riyadi fan and want to see them do well...

totally agree with you Khalid
they should have played the same starters as before the final 4
Nate Loren Omar Ali Joe
they could have use Ismail as a jocker card during the game...like Ghassan Sarkis did with Jay in Champville
FAC gave priority to the names instead of keeping the same formation.
Pulling of Omar directly was a big mistake....i agree that Jean at some point is better than Omar but he can't throw everything out of the blue.
2 weeks ago this team was somewhere and now is completely a different place it's like the start of the season for Riyadi lol
I used to remember when Yasser El Hajj went to play with Sagesse in Asia during the golden days...Ghassan Sarkis Kept him on the bench and used him as a rotation with one of his main players.

For ASU's game : Jameel Watkins 16 pts , Sam Daghlas 14 , Ayman Idais 13 , Zaid Abbas 12 , Mousa Awadi 10 as for Forehan-Kelly may be 6 points from two shots from the Arc .... Kelly did not show up so good in this Tournament , Watkins was better ... Kelly only shoots from the Arc and in this he makes too many attempts .... he is a little bit Moody player
Hard luck man ... :)

Arab Basketball Championship UAE 2010-2011 [15 May - 25 May]
Semi.Finals
Tuesday May 24:
ASU (Jordan) v/s Sala (Morocco) ---> 62-74
Champville (Lebanon) v/s Sharjah (UAE) ---> 75-80
Final Game :
Sala (Morroco) Vs Sharjah (UAE)
:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek:
Champville played very well against Sharjah in the first Q ,and lead by over then 20 but then the UAE Team come back and come back to have a lead in the 4th Q then won the Game ,if Champville had 3 Foreigners (Equal to UAE Team foreigners they would won the game easily) the 3 imports of UAE Give them the win ,as for Champville Khatib-Jay-Thompson were very good but unfortunatly lost the game ,as i said if there is and Equal between the 2 teams Champville would win the game easily !
Hard luck Champville and Congrats sharjah !!

The ASU coach needs to be replaced before the FIBA Manila tournament. He is clearly not qualified to coach. He only played Forehan-Kelly limited minutes. What was he thinking?

It's hard to believe we're looking at a Salah/Sharjah finals. Both those semi-final games are shocking: seeing Champville and ASU lose is very difficult.
Still, I guess congratulations are in order to Morocco and UAE. I hope this brings some fans of their teams here to InterBasket.Net. :D

I watched again today, Sala vs. ASU and I now can see why Sala made it to the final. They play with effort and aggressiveness on defense and their aggressive guard play is killing the opposing teams because they have no ballhandlers. Their big men are not that good but that does not matter bc the other teamīs big guys rarely even get the ball in a good position down low. If Sala had not had a lot of stupid TOs (big guys not catching the ball, careless passes), they would have blown out ASU by 30 but they always let them back in the game.

Champville could win the Game if they had their 3rd import Lee Benson ,Champville was playing 3 4 Games Without C !!!!!! if Lee was there i think champville to the Finals
but it s okk , i am very happy of Khatib performance what a player !!! no one stopped him
he scored today big Numbers :
Fadi Khatib 35Pts, 5Rbs, 3Ass (5/7 3's + 5/6 FT) (Added 1 Block)
What a huge Player !!

Well , Both Forehan and coach Oniga should be replaced and Forehan before Oniga ! Kelly can't do anything other than shooting from the Arc and his Defense Sucks ..... he is a 1 Dimensional Player

Hard luck for Champville and ASU.... Imo they both didn't take their opponents seriously and both played below par to lose to Sala and Sharjah...
On the other hand congrats to both Sala and Sharjah who honestly played their hearts out in todays' game.

And yet if you look at the fans who came to the games today it was mostly Lebanese and some Jordanians
There were a few Moroccans as well but just a handful but i'm sure they'll come in bigger numbers for tomorrow's game...

Hey Solo ,For sure you need Necessarly to Change Forehan-Kelly ,Jameel is Ok Average you can find better but as for Kelly i think you need someone like Nate Johnson-Jay Yongblood-Calvin Cage-Chudney Gray -Darren Kelly ... Those are big Imports ,they can Bring the Game and the score ...
As For Riyadi they changed Nate by Corey Bradford Sharjah Team Player for The Asian Championship along with (Ismail or Loren ) and 90% will be Loren Woods !
Corey and Khatib will make a big Duo !

Hey Gazara , dunno the general atmosphere in ASU is not good at all , Sam Daghlas is really upset and thinks of not making it to Asia Champions Cup , our Imports took the last place between the whole Tourney Imports ... Frederick Oniga made nothing at all ... now we regret Mario Palma's days... am really guys with you now that CBA Chinese League is a Propaganda ... Zaid Abbas is the Best Example for that .... Sam Daghlas was the best in ASU as usual and did his Best but nobody supported him !
Am really upset , with these 2 Imports (Watkins is a little bit better but still under the Level) , Player's Mentality and this Coach : I hope ASU gonna make it to second round in Asia!

Solo the CBA league style of play is much more different than in our leagues and this will make it difficult for these players to adapt again to our systems...First their games are 48 minutes, second and this is my opinion, they don't play tough physical defense in the CBA... Last but not least some players who were quite successful in the CBA weren't able to impress and have good games in our league so it all depends.
We had Rony Fahed and Sabah Khoury play in the CBA last season and since they came back they haven't been playing that well... Rony averaged something close to 14 points/game in the CBA but when he came back to Lebanon he was averaging close to 11 points/game.
As for our teams chances in Asia it will be tough for both of us and we need to watch for Mahram, Al Rayyan and Smart Gilas (playing in front of their fans and home court advantage)

ASU won't be able to change their foreign players for the Asian Cup as they tried but their request got rejected from FIBA Asia (same with Riyadi).... This will make things really tough for you guys unless Kelly and Watkins play at a much higher level by then...

Actually they weren't very good in the CBA. 14p/48min vs. 11p/40min, what's the difference. How about the FG% in the CBA: 30.9% for Rony Fahed (28.2% from 3); 34.7% for Sabah Khoury (30.6% from 3). Both below average in the league. Also they played for 2 of the worst teams in the league, Khoury didn't help his team at all; Fahed helped but it wasn't a big improvement (finished 2 spaces higher). Had they had decent stats like Zaid they would have remained in the CBA this year.
What are the stats for Zaid Abbas, Daghlas and Watkins in this tourney?

For ur own info, both Sabah and Rony were offered to extend their contracts in China but they preferred to return to the Lebanese league!
As per ur question, both Watkins and Abbas are performing less than average while Daghlas is doing well!

The Chinese league has preferred to get the ball to post players so you'd see stats drop when centers/PFs go to other competitions. I'm not worried. If Zaid underperforming now (heck can we get some stats???) means CBA is propaganda what does Zaid's stellar performance in the 2010 World Championship mean then?
Also this Jordan team has always had those up-and-down issues in these insignificant tourneys, I remember last year they lost soundly to Philippines, Qatar etc. in Lebanon, then almost shocked Australia and was quite competitive against Argentina in the real thing.
Is there any livescore available?
Is there an official site?
Thanks in advance.

Hello guys, i saw that no review about Sala (sportive association of Sala was made ^^) since it's not a Lebanese club. Anyway, it's the best club here in Morocco so far and it got both the championship and the cup last year.
It made me really so proud to see Sala in the final, and that's a triumph in it self. I hope them the best for the final (going now).
And hard luck for the Lebanese teams, they were favorite before the start of the championships, and may be now they will prepare harder for the next time ^^
One last thing i'd like to add is that ASS (association sportive de Salé), like its called in Morocco, only recruited 1 foreigner/professional for this arab championship. And all it's main players are from original team that won the league and the cup of the last year (and certainly this year too).
Good luck with the forum.
Salam !

This team really "shook up" the tournament. I was very surprised that they did so well. They were underdogs, but they had an incredible couple of games.
And hard luck for the Lebanese teams, they were favorite before the start of the championships, and may be now they will prepare harder for the next time ^^ Yes, they had hard luck, but they also did not plan well enough, as the Lebanese guys here are saying.

well let me tell you that as far as i know, Dany's sources are very accurate, he doesent report what the media says, and i can for sure tell you,on his behalf, that it's not from the media where he got this news. His sources are trustable.
anyways, back to the topic,i find that the CBA lacks any sense of defense whatsoever,it's like everyone can post big numbers,it's like an offensive minded league, i mean i remmember the way herve lamazina, who was posting scary numbers in the CBA (like 30 ppg or so),got humiliated in lebanon, he barely averaged some 6ppg or so,and was immediatly released after a few games, the CBA is certainly a very competitive and proffesional league, and it's imports are the best in asia beyond any doubt, but on the defensive end,it doesent convince me at all, i mean, all the games there finish with relatively high scores (120 points or so),that's practicaly impossible to see in lebanon and iran, even if you take into account the 12 min quarters, here most scores are in the 70-80 margin.

Sorry I'm embarassed
Lebanese_Phoenix, you are entitled to your opinion, but let me correct one fact: the average score per game in the past CBA season is 99, not 120 like you claim, and there are 48min/game, so when you adjust to 40min/game it is 82pts/game/team. I haven't watched Arabic leagues so I can't compare the rest

Is China really capable of handling 18 teams in a unified league? no doubt that China got really talented and skilled players but how many there are of them in the league?

Sinoball, i gotta a question for you, i hope to hear an objective one:
Is China really capable of handling 18 teams in a unified league? no doubt that China got really talented and skilled players but how many there are of them in the league?I think I know what you mean, but how do you think I should answer this, when I have nothing to compare to? I mean it's not like in Euroleague (not sure how WABA works) there is a quota or some standards of performance one should meet to be allowed entry. From a practical side of things, it works. (BTW it's 17 not 18). Hey Japan's BJ-league will even have 20+ teams (and all the Japanese talents are in the other leagues JBL or JBL2) and who is to say they can't do this?
Aside from the top few, of course, most CBA players are more or less the same level. This is an import-dominated league, but just like any other league you'd need local players to make major contributions to get to the top.
Sorry for derailing the thread, but I guess it's OK since the tourney is over :D

Zaid Abbas should stay at home and have a good rest and prepare for the Asia-Cup. Not FOR This ABC and what what ... i think he would like to pause too!!!:D
Even though the article says Egypt, I'm pretty sure he's actually talking about his experience with Sharjah:
While playing in Egypt, Bradford said, the league allowed each team to carry one "import" during the regular season and three during the postseason. The 6-foot-3 guard was his team's import. He recalled his first practice with the team. He shot jumpers as a group of men none of them looking the part of a pro gravitated toward his basket.
"I said, 'Coach, where's the team at?' He said, 'It's right here.' I said, 'No, Coach. Where's the team at?' " Bradford remembered.
"It was like playing with your cousin and he got his little friend to come over. Then you've got a 6-foot-4 power forward. That's the thing. On top of the money, I can pretty much play with my eyes closed."
Bradford led his team to an Arab championship, raising his Middle East profile another notch. He has signed to play next season in Qatar.
"It's like the NCAA tournament of the Middle East. And we won it," Bradford said. "It's not only the biggest thing for the club, it's the biggest thing for the country. It's like a junior college team winning the NCAA tournament."
