BTW, looking at Lithuanian flag, you could think that it belongs to some country from Africa, becouse all three colors that has Lithuanian flag are typical for African ones.
The meaning of Lithuanian flag:
Yellow - the sun under which we are living.
Green - the nature which surrounds us.
Red - our blood which we lost fighting for our freedom (independence).
And personaly I, think that Lithuanian flag looks awsome :p

The flag of Slovenia
Slovenian Flag Description:
The flag of Slovenia consists of three equal sized horizontal stripes. The top stripe is white, the middle blue and the bottom stripe is red. In the upper left corner of the Slovenian flag, centered between the white and blue stripe, is the country's coat of arms which consists of the three-peaked Triglav Mountain, the highest mountain in Slovenia, and three yellow stars.
Slovenian Flag Meaning:
The three stars on the coat of arms symbolize Slovenian independence and were adopted from the arms of the former 15th century Slovenian Duchy of Celje. The duchy unsuccessfully attempted to obtain independence from Austro-Hungarian rule. The two wavy blue lines at the bottom of the mountain represent the country's rivers flowing into the sea. Blue, white and red are traditional Slavic colors and together they make up the pan-Slavic colors. They were initially adopted by Slavic nations in the mid-19th century and were influenced by the flag of Russia; which was an independent Slavic country at the time. The colors now stand for Slavic unity and independence and can be seen in the flags of most Slavic nations.
Slovenian Flag History:
The Slovenian flag was adopted on June 7, 1991. The Slovenian white, blue and red colors originated with Slovenian nationalists in 1848, when Slovenia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. When the Austro-Hungarian kingdom collapsed after the First World War Slovenia merged with other Slavic states in 1918 to form a union that would become Yugoslavia. Slovenia gained independence from Yugoslavia in 1992.
Interesting Slovenian Flag Facts:
Slovenian artist Marko Pogacnik created the country's coat of arms in 1991.

Latvian flag comes from the early 13th century when latvian tribes went to war with estonian tribes with this kind of flag. There are many legends about the flag's history- how they came up with the idea- but they cannot be proven cause at that time latvian tribes wasn't able to leave any writings and only in German-christian chronic this flag is mentioned as latvian flag.
Some think that the red colour simbolises blood (maybe they painted it with their fallen heroes blood to look more frightening). Actually noone knows.

... we should've have Carinthian panter, Carniolan eagle and Styrian dragon in our flag instead of some hippie, peacefull symbolics that doesn't represent the nation or it's history...
just as our anthem, the hippiest anthem in the world, instead of good old "Naprej zastave slave" (anthem until the late 70ies)...

Republika ng Pilipinas (dont know if i spelt it right)
The symbols on the white triangle of the Philippine flag are an eight rayed sun and three stars in gold. The sun represents the dawning of a new era of self determination that was desired in 1897 (when the flag was first designed) after the Spanish-American war and the US promise of independence, which was granted in 1946. The 8 rays on the sun stand for the 8 provinces that rose in revolt against Spanish rule in the late 19th century. The 3 stars stand for the 3 principal geographic areas of the country, Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao. To complete the symbolism of the flag, the red stripe represents courage and bravery and the blue stripe is for noble ideals. The white triangle stands for the Katipunan, a revolutionary organization that led the revolt against Spain and the color white represents peace and purity. This flag is unique in that in peacetime, the blue stripe is uppermost but during wartime, the red stripe is on top. The flag was first designed by General Aguinaldo in 1897 during his exile in Hong Kong. It was adopted on 19 May 1898.Aguinaldo's army defeated the Spaniards at the Battle of Alapan on 28 May 1898. The flag saw it's first action that day. 28 May is recognized as Flag Day in the Philippines. On 12 June 1898 the Philippines declared independence from Spain and so began the First Philippine Republic. The flag has the unique ability to display a state of war of the country. It does this according to the orientation of the blue and red panels: if the blue panel is above the red, the Philippines is at peace, in the red above blue indicates a state of war. In the vertical position, blue on the right means peace and opposite means otherwise.

The Portuguese flag:
http://i47.photobucket.com/albums/f193/rikhardur/flag-Portugal-lg.gif
Green represents hope, red represents the blood of those who died serving the nation.
The traditional Portuguese shield (escudo) it is the prime Portuguese symbol, as well as one of the oldest national symbols still used in the world and certainly one of the oldest in Europe. Used for more than 800 years, it appears on all of the Portuguese flags except for the first one.
The five white points in the five shields in the centre of the flag refer to a legend concerning the first King of Portugal, Afonso I. The story tells that before the Battle of Ourique (26 July 1139), King Afonso was praying for the protection of the Portuguese people when a vision of Jesus on the cross appeared to him. King Afonso won the battle and, in gratitude, incorporated Christ's five wounds into his flag.
The castles, which originally numbered nine, are a symbol of the Portuguese's victories over their enemies under King Afonso III's command. They could also relate to the nine Moorish castles defeated by Portugal in 1249. Later, King John II reduced the number of castles in the flag down to seven.
The circular design is an armillary sphere which replaced the crown in the old monarchist flag. It represented the Portuguese Colonial Empire at the time of the Revolution as well as the discoveries of Portuguese explorers throughout the world.

Kazakhstan, Portugal, Wales and Albanian flags are really nice, but that old Caranthanian flag is the best!
Ok, here's Turkish flag:
http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g116/dtlethe/TurkeyFlag.jpg
The flag is a little bit modified form of Ottoman version, and the crescent clearly represents the Islam. But some people here in Turkey would go crazy and leap on you if you say so. They will say, no, it's the projection of crescent and the star in the sky on the surface of a blood pool of martyrs, nothing related to religion. Anyway, even though I don't have any religion, I think it's a very beautiful flag.

Coat of Arms of Puerto Rico:
http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9748/escudoasiz5.png
The coat of arms of Puerto Rico were first granted by the Spanish Crown in 1511, and are the oldest arms still used in the New World. It was officially re-adopted by the Commonwealth government of Puerto Rico in 1976.
On the shield, the green background represents the island's vegetation. The lamb (of God) and flag on the shield are those of St. John the Baptist, while the book with the seven seals on which the lamb sits represents the Book of Revelation, generally attributed to John the Evangelist. The border is made up of several different elements: castles and lions to represent Castile and León (Castile-Leon), as well as a flag that represents the two kingdoms united as Spain. The cross of Jerusalem stands for the Catholic faith. The F and the arrows (flechas in spanish) represent Ferdinand II of Aragon while the Y and the yoke (yugo in spanish) represent Isabella I of Castile, who originally granted the arms. The motto, "Joannes Est Nomem Ejus", means "John is its name", as San Juan, or St. John, was the original name of the island

You people still dont get it do you? Many countries dont like yours because of the way it acts on international politics grounds. Some even hate you.None is jealous of you.The only things I'd be jealous in US is the health system and cheaper electronic appliances.
As of homosexuality;yeah you got it,we're all gay.You re blaming a society for its conclusions about a social phenomenon when every civilized society today, almost 2500 yrs later, has come to the same conclusions.Unless you in the US burn your gays at the stake. Its not up to me or you to tell to another person what to do with his behind. Is this the "freedom" you so disinterestedly trying to bring uppon the world?
On to the topic;

The cross stands for the Christian Orthodox religion. The 9 stripes stand for the mumber of syllables for the "Freedom or death" phrase (in Greek). The blue color stands for the sea and the white for the fizzy effect the waves do when they reach the coast.
I also like the Estonian,Argentina and Japan ones

oh c fish it was just rather a sarcastic note of a joke, nothing more nothing lless.
and no one seems to be flaming me so far for my other remark as a joke bout the frnech natl flag.
On to the topic;
http://img106.imageshack.us/img106/5044/greeceflagal5.th.jpg (http://img106.imageshack.us/my.php?image=greeceflagal5.jpg)

Actually, it is the other way around from what I know. It has become an Islamic symbol after Turks have used it. Check:

hmm, yes Karesk... your explanation is reasonable. Thanks for correcting me! ;)
I guess we both agree that the widespread explanation about the origin of the flag (i.e., projection of crescent on blood pool of martyrs) is not true.
so, we should say, it's the symbol of Islam today due to Ottomans' (i.e., Turks') influence, right?
And the symbol's roots go back to a few thousand years (before the Ottomans).

I have heard 2 theories about the symbol of islam. The first is that it was some kind of a byzantine symbol (the moon and venus which is the brightest star in the sky), then it was taken over and spread by the ottomans. The second is that it is a view of the sky from a specific area in the arabic peninsula at a specific time of the year (at the time of some of mohammed's visions i think). I don't know if any of both is true though

It was on February 24th, 1821 when this flag was first used and it means as follows:
Green simbolizes the hope of the people on the destiny of our race, White represents the purity of the ideals of the people and Red the blood of our people who fought for the independence of the country.
The emblem in the middle (the eagle eating a snake) has a leyend to it.
It is said that the Aztecs lived in a land called Aztlan, when Huitzilopochtli (their most important god) told their preists that they needed to leave Aztlan and find the promise land where they will have power, wealth and start a new city. The signal was that when they found an eagle standing in a nopal (plant), eating a snake, that's where the new city was to be built. After 302 years they found the eagle eating the snake and they founded tenochtitlan (currently Mexico City) and the eagle eating the snake became a national emblem. The open wings of the eagle means they are in combat position and the eagle is on a piece of land on top of a lake (tenochtitlan was built on this lake and then Mexico city was built in this area). Thats; why some very old buildings in Mexico City are sinking :)

Reviving this thread :D
I just noticed that the unnoficial flag of Saint-Pierre and Miquelon has the Basque flag in the upper left corner. Interestingly the explanation is:
Three square fields placed along the hoist recall the origin of most inhabitants of the islands, from top to bottom, Basques, Bretons, and Normans

Very good looking flag btw :)

It was designed to be a neutral flag, not allied to any one of Lebanon's religious groups
Red The red stripes symbolize the pure blood shed in the aim of liberation.Red is thought to be for the color of the uniforms worn by the Lebanese Legion during World War I. Officially the red is said to represent the people of Lebanon's sacrifice during the struggle for independence
White The white stripe symbolizes peace and purity, and the white snow covering Lebanon's mountains.
Green he green cedar (Arz) (Species: Cedrus libani or Lebanon Cedar) symbolizes immortality and steadiness. This cedar is referenced many times in the Bible: "The righteous flourish like the palm tree, and grow like a cedar in Lebanon" (Psalms 92:12).Although the flag has existed only for half a century, the tree at the center of the flag – the Cedar of Lebanon – has been an emblem of the country since the time of King Solomon. It first appeared on a flag in 1861 when Lebanon was part of the Ottoman Empire. Soon after its collapse, the country became mandated to France and its flag was a French Tricolore, with the Cedar of Lebanon in the white band of the flag. The cedar symbolizes happiness and prosperity for the country.
It is a common mistake to draw the branches of the cedar and the tree trunk in brown or black which could be seen as unconstitutional. The cedar should be fully green regarding the provisions in the Constitution.
Original Lebanese Flag : The present Lebanese flag was adopted just prior to independence from France in 1943. Seeking independence, the actual flag was first drawn by member of parliament Henri Pharaon[5][6] in the Chamber of deputies Saeb Salam's house in Mousaitbeh by the deputies of the Lebanese parliament

Heres another interesting:
Coat of arms of Kikinda, town and a municipality in north Serbia (Vojvodina).
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/2/2b/Coat_of_arms_of_Kikinda.svg/427px-Coat_of_arms_of_Kikinda.svg.png
LOL
The official coat of arms of the municipality dates back to the Austrian rule and the 18th century. It is derived from the coat of arms of the District of Velika Kikinda which was issued by Maria Theresa of Austria on November 12, 1774. The Coat of Arms represents a hand holding a sabre on which an Ottoman Turkish head is impaled. It symbolizes the fight of Serbs against the Turks during the Military Frontier period and the military contributions of the population of Kikinda during the Austro-Ottoman Wars.
In 2007, Branislav Blažić, then president of the municipality of Kikinda, asked for the change of the coat of arms, criticizing it for being "morbid". The idea proved very controversial, and ultimately the coat was not changed. Most critics of Blažić stated that the coat of arms is a part of the history and tradition of Kikinda and so an important factor of the city identity.
