Yes. Ortiz scored 27pts, 67% 2pts against Obras Sanitarias but Estudiantes Bahia Blanca lost again 79 - 72.

Anyway I think that Ortiz would be one of the better foreigners this season, he is a scoring machine and needs to be the first offensive option. So he is in the right team, he is going to be Estudiantes main offensive weapon. He led the last SouthAmerican championship in scoring with 26.7 ppg, the second was Esteban Batista (Uruguay) with 21.3 ppg.

I saw him play on the centroamerican games and he is pretty good, nice to see him making a career :)

I remember hearing about him when he was about 18 years old already playing for the Colombian senior NT, but then I didn't hear anything else until the last South American Championship earlier this year. Let's see how he does in the remaining of the season.

Small forward Maurice Spillers was cut from Ben Hur from Rafaela even if he has averaged 15.5 ppg 6.5 rpg 3 apg and 3 spg his replacement will be power forward Jamar Brown who played the whole preseason for Atenas averaging 16.9 ppg and 8.9 rpg in the Argentinian cup.

Regatas from Corrientes will also cut Joe Zalatel, who will play his last game tonight against Atenas. To replace him Regatas will sign Puerto Rican forward Carmelo Lee

LNB has just started, and there are already transfers. Now, it is permitted a transfer of a foreigner from an LNB team to another LNB team during the tournament. This was forbidden last season, am I wrong here?.

Also Regatas is evaluating the cut of Romero (who would probably return to Gim. Y Esg. Comodoro) and Jason Keep. Regatas has big governmental economic support, thus want to bring in Román González. Estudiantes is on the search of a big guy (a center) so maybe J. Keep could play in Estudiantes, last season he played well for Belgrano de San Nicolás.

Montecchia sprained, in the game Atenas lost to Regatas Corrientes 93-71. Regatas had 5 losses in a row(3 in Argentinean Cup, and 2 in the championship), and there was a general feeling of discomfort, they really needed a win.

Well, I am sure now. Before, it was only possible to transfer a foreigner to TNA or other category below. Maurice Spillers became the first foreigner in history that on the same season of LNB will play for two different LNB teams. This occured because of a change in the regulation that now permitts it for the first time, previously it was only possible to transfer a foreigner to a category below.

News
* TNA Joseph Zalatel: Some people say he has some overweight, he will stay on El Nacional until next year. Evans who is injured will travel back to US and will return on January 2nd to replace Zalatel.

* Lábaque asked/suggested shooting guard Timothy Lee Jones for Atenas de Córdoba? Palladino rescinded a contract he had with CSKA Sofia, Bulgaria due to economic differences . It is said he could sign with Atenas, or Boca.

*Ciclista Juninense cut nigerian import Chima Igwe due to poor performances in Copa Argentina and Liga Nacional. They're are looking for a substitute.

Due the participation of Boca Jrs and Gimnasia CR in the South American Clubs Championship, only five games of the sixth round were played.

Actually, they were four, all of them from the north zone. The 5th and 6th rounds of the south zone will be played on the 6th and 8th of November, respectively. The Estudiantes - Peñarol match was advanced, it was supposed to be played in the 13th round, I really don't know why they played the past Sunday considering Estudiantes had two players injured: Gerardo Barrera and Mariano Pizzo. It was pretty foolish if you ask me, now Estudiantes is "sinking fast" (la van a tener que remar fuerte en la segunda fase), nevertheless this was very predictable considering the team was initially formed to face TNA competition.
Estudiantes might have a chance today, for Cocha from Gimnasia Comodoro is injured, and Gimnasia team might be tired they come from playing five consecutive games last week in the South American Clubs Championship. If Estudiantes don't win today, they're going down  :( (no, wait... they're already there).

...The surprising Sionista clearly defeated Belgrano 102-80 ...

Indeed, they're achieving; undefeated playing as locals. Let's see if they can keep it up as visitors against Belgrano and Central, not very tough rivals btw. Also they haven't played against Regatas.

OMG!!! Stalin Ortiz just posted 50 pts 10 rbs and 6 stls in Estudiantes victory over Dep Madryn 109-85 for the 8th round. he is the Colombian KOBE!!!

Yes, they were many repercussions after the match. It's not that i do not appreciate what he just did, BUT with the 9 attempts for threes he took(making only one), he should have at least scored 56pts :D. Anyhow I'm content because Estudiantes won, nothing else to critize, he was really good in every other aspect.
Stalin Ortiz now averages 29ppg and became the twentieth player, which reached/surpassed the 50pts in LNB competitions. Héctor "Pichi" Campana, the maximum scorer of LNB reached/surpassed the 50pt barrier 12 times. The LNB record is for Andrew Moten playing for Gimnasia de Comodoro made 63pts against GEPU in the semifinal of LNB 92/93.

ORTIZ Stalin 50pts (q1: 13pts, q2: 12pts, q3: 13pts, q4: 12pts)
19/34FG:
The good: 18/25(72%)2ptFG
the bad: 1/9(11%)3ptFG
the evil: 50pts

Ja ja ja :D good post, altouhg I believe it is Wilfredo Ruiz who holds the record for more points in one game.

Now about Ortiz, unfortunately I haven't seen him play, but I wonder how far can he go?, I know he is not in his teens and our league might not be that strong, but its really hard to average 29 ppg here in our league. He seems to be very hard to stop, I know that not all the players have the chance to take 34 shots and anyone who takes so many shots should average a good number of points, but still he seems to be impossible to guard.

He is what? 6'3 or 6'4", he is 25 years old, does he have what it takes to succed in international bball,is he earning him self a future in Europe??, it's just to soon to even talk about it:D ?

More Transfers

* Belgrano signed Chima Igwe, recently cut from Central.
* Ben Hur signed Tai Crutchfield, dropped Lamont Roland who traveled back to the USA due to family problems; Ben Hur also cut Jamar Brown, and signed William McFarlan, recently cut from Atenas. (Ben Hur se lleva y prueba el descarte de Atenas hasta ahora)
* Gimnasia signed Jamar Brown, cut Chris Garnett.
* Regatas signs Román González, will drop Diego Romero.
* Gimnasia might sign Diego Romero.

OK, i'm fed up with all these crazy constant and unending transfers, one does not even know where the foreigners are playing, nevertheless there are more on the way.

... although I believe it is Wilfredo Ruiz who holds the record for more points in one game.
No. Wilfredo Ruiz with 60pts only holds the "team record" for Estudiantes de Bahía Blanca playing against Deportivo San Andrés in LNB 85'.

Too many questions. Wait till I go out, buy a crystal sphere and then I'll try and see if I can foresee into his future :D. Now seriously, for the time being lets only say he is just a good player Estudiantes (a team which has as a primary objetive to maintain the category) has on it's squad who can score against many teams with ease but sometimes he is not that effective and takes many shots per game, same as Diego García, Leo Gutierrez or Bruno Lábaque (just to name a few) whom always guarantee points; I'm not sure what you meant by "succeed in international bball", I assume it was "succeed in Europe". I suppose he could play, succeed? who knows. And yes, it's too soon :P (too soon for him to leave Estudiantes :D).

Can anyone of the Argentina experts guess what good players can make in your country's top division?

Salaries have to be decent, if they were low, I would see no reason why European teams do not "fish these rich grounds" in Argentina for great and affordable talent more.

The top players earn around 30000 to 35000 Argentinian pesos per month which is about 10500-13500 US dollars, I guess its not much compared with Euro salaries, the thing is that actually Euro teams are constantly "fishing this grounds" as there are more than 200 Argentinian players playing abroad. You could make almost 20 rosters only with Argentinian players playing abroad.
Anyway I still believe that many of the LNB top players are still here cause they prefer to earn less money but play for something important than to go to a 2nd or third Division in Spain or Italy.

* Regatas cut Carmelo Lee, displaced by the North American Silas Mills.
* Juan Espil ended his contract with Bilbao(Spain), I think he arrives to Bahía Blanca this weekend. Hope he signs with Estudiantes. But that may be hoping too much, he'll surely prioritize "European team" options.

The first phase of LNB just ended. The tournament is postponed until Dec 2nd (the start of 2nd phase). The best four teams of each zone qualified for the Super8 which will take place from Nov 22nd to the 26th in Ruca Che Arena, Neuquen. Due to the incidents in Puerto Madryn after the game with Ciclista, two pts (minus one when 1st phase is over) were taken away from them, thus leaving them out of the Super8 Tournament.
The second phase is one single zone of sixteen teams, and all teams drag 50 percent of 1st phase points.
Each team plays in turn against every other (one game as local, the other as visitor), so each team will contend in 30 matches. This second stage determines which teams qualify for playoff quarter-finals, and which teams loose the category.

Kind of left behind, huh?;)

The trend of foreigners being signed and released is really amazing. Just for this holidays, players like Jason Keep, William Sanders and Dionisio Gómez got cut. But the new signings aren't bad (Chris Jackson, Larry Florence, Robert Battle and Dionisio Gómez himself:rolleyes: ).

Plus, during december many good Americans were released (Silas Mills and Raheim Brown are some examples; Mills wound up replacing Brown). It seems that coaches either don't know what they need from them, or perhaps they don't know who they are signing.

The ggod thing is that a new rule allows teams to sign players who already played for other LNB clubs. Some foreigners who played for two teams are Maurice Spillers (Ben Hur and Boca), Jamar Brown (Atenas, Ben Hur and Gimnasia CR, they all released him), Chima Igwe (Belgrano and Ciclista, both released him), Gómez and Mills.

why dont play in this league River Plate??
They finished last season owing U$S 300000 to players and coach and failed to reach an agreement on how to pay them, so they got kicked out of the league. Days later, the league gave their playing rights to Estudiantes Bahía Blanca, that was playing in TNA (2º division)

A few comments:

-Estudiantes and Sionista are the biggest surprises so far. Both teams are composed with mostly TNA (second division) players but are between the best. Estudiantes amazingly won every game since releasing LNB top scorer Stalin Ortiz (he wanted to leave the club because of a better offer in Spanish LEB).

-Atenas is having a nightmare season. They've fired the coach, they made multiple signings and releasings of foreigners, and nothing improves. They got trashed by Boca 79-55 yesterday. And there are rumors that they may strike a commercial alliance with local football club Belgrano, seeing more sponsorship and attendace.

-Regatas shocked the market with a big budget and big signings; but injuries, bad coaching and multiple roster changes have them underachieving.

-Belgrano is almost doomed. Obras, Central and Ciclista fight to avoid being relegated too.

-Central is another big disappointment. They have a very good roster, and made some big signings during the season (Panama NT C Antonio García, former Wizards F/C Randell Jackson, former Tau & Argentina NT G/F Leandro Palladino), but they keep losing anyway.

El Nacional/Monte Hermoso (beach city of nearly 7000 -that's right, no zeroes missing- located near Bahía Blanca, city where the club is originally from) earned the promotion to LNB A after sweeping Olimpia Venado Tuerto 3-0. Olimpia's roster included veteran SF Jorge Racca (former Gran Canaria, Greek league, Reggio Calabria, Napoli, Tenerife and National Team among others) in the last game of the series.

Sorry, my fellow users!

Today the Finals started, and Boca shocked Peñarol 61-57 in Mar del Plata, in front of 7000 Peñarol fans.

(And yes, Boca turned around the series against Libertad, from 0-2 to 3-2. Boca also did this in the quarterfinals against Ben Hur)

Boca Juniors completed a stunner, winning the Finals 4-2 in an incredibly even series:

Peñarol 57 - Boca Juniors 61
Peñarol 77 - Boca Juniors 75
Boca Juniors 57 - Peñarol 58
Boca Juniors 77 - Peñarol 74
Peñarol 58 - Boca Juniors 66
Boca Juniors 89 - Peñarol 81

PF Leo Gutiérrez was declared Finals MVP because of his 15.5 ppg, and his Game 6 performance: 22 pts and 6/6 threes.

Yep, my fault..., Sorry everyone I'been busy during the past six months, but from now on I'll start posting again.

I want to welcome Alermac who is very respeced in Argentinian basketball forums
