Martynas Pocius played 18 minutes in Duke's first game of the season, an exhibition game against Shaw University, and scored 12 points.

Marty had looked really terrible at the Blue/White game, but a little birdy told me he got a stern talking to from someone about stepping up his game before Coach K benched him permanently. From our perspective, the talk worked. If Pocius does not become more aggressive he is going to sit out a second year at Duke. Zalgrinis says playing in the U.S. is a mistake for Marty. What do you guys think?

It is hard to talk without really seeing Marty play. My guess is that he may lack physique to be very successful in this position in the States. He has definitely got talent, otherwise, he would not be the leader in his position among the players of his age in international basketball. But US basketball is just different... The same old story :)

Yet I think he still has time to get his play at the Duke. I heard you have some strong rookies over there this year? Do they play in Pocius' position?

We would welcome him back to Lithuania at any given moment :)

Hey all, thought I'd drop a few articles your way. Marty's Mom is here visiting with us in Durham. Unfortunately I have not got to meet her myself but here are just some articles about her stay and Duke you might enjoy:

Pocius reaches Durham on a wing and a prayer (http://www.heraldsun.com/sports/18-799240.cfm)

Duke parents travel to see sons (http://www.newsobserver.com/122/story/521289.html)

Marty has been getting more minutes but still seems to be struggling a bit with his speed.
