The reason for this thread was the discussion elsewhere about wonderkid Ricky Rubio!
Ricky is shining at the age of only 16 yo old!

I wonder if is it enough (shining as a youngster i mean) for all of us to assume that a player will have a bright career?

In order to have a better discussion in this thread i give the following link

http://www.fiba.com/pages/en/events/competition/latest_results.asp?RoundID=2895&lang=EN&fisC=false&CompetitionCode=WMJM&Season=1995&act_link=1&StatType=OA

In this link u can see back in 1995 some youngsters, which some were shining back then.
For example Retzias (GRE), which was MVP and leading in most categories in that tournament.
If u check the rosters of all teams u will be suprised by the names written there (for example Argentina, USA, CHINA, Lithuania, Croatia).
The reason for this example is because most of those youngsters (back then) have already made their career and some even have stopped.

IMHO shining as a youngster doesn't mean that a great career is ahead.
Excluding injuries (which can't be predicted, Vujanic for example) i claim that hard work, choise of future team/teams are factors equally important with talent for the evolution of a shining youngster into a great player.

The main difference is that Rubio doesn't shine against youngsters, bug against Europe best players (#1 at steals and #9 at assists in only 19 mn in Europe best competition)

He still needs to work his shooting skills though, or he won't be that hard to defend against.

again: 7steals and 6 assists after a 7 7 last week... crazy. He just had a 21 ranking after his first bad game in ACB.
