View Full Version : Wade: "Dirk is no leader"

Wow, Wade really thinks he's as good as the Refs try to make him.
So, Dirk is no leader? The guy is one of the best crunch time players in the game today, the guy that needs no Shaq to be successfull, the guy that led Germany to 3rd place at WC and 4th and 2nd at EC?

But, hey, Wade really showed his leadership in Semifinal vs Greece when he executed the last play in 3rd quarter like Jordan and gladly Spanoulis did not have the chance to run over the whole court to score again and so give the Greeks a big boost going into the last quarter.
He showed it, when he argued more with the Refs in the last quarter of the Semifinal than careing about making good decisions. Suddenly, the Refs didn't help him. Yes, that's true leadership!

Oh, yeah, and he's complaining that Dirk didn't give him much respect after winning the Finals. Well, of course, a Dwayne Wade would never think about that.
Of course he congratulated the Greeks after the Semifinal, how could one think he just walked off the court being a sore loser?

DIG AT DIRK

After the Heat practiced Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena, Wade was asked if he believes players are ultimately remembered for what they do at the end of games.

Wade, who usually is selective and subtle with his criticisms of opposing players, took the opportunity to take a jab at Dallas' Dirk Nowitzki, who has failed to give the Heat credit for beating the Mavericks in the Finals last season.

''At the end of the day,'' Wade said, ``you're remembered for what you did at the end. . . . I think that's the reason -- Dirk says they gave us the championship last year, but he's the reason they lost the championship, because he wasn't the leader that he's supposed to be in the closing moments. That's because of great defense by us, but also he wasn't assertive enough as a leader's supposed to be.''

Actually he didn't say Dirk is no leader, he said that Dirk wasn't the leader he should b during the finals. And if we compare his performances in the finals(especially in the last minutes) to Nowitzki's performances, it's clear who was better in the final decisive minutes.
So although these statements sound arrogant and offending, they do have some reality in them. What Wade did in Game 3 of last year's finals is something many of us haven't seen since Michael Jordan was playing.
Yes, Nowitzki is all alone in the german NT and he manages 2 bring that team high all by himself, that's why he is a big star in Europe. But I believe that if Wade has in the place of Dirk, the german NT would have more or less the same results. As for his sub-par performance in the WC and against Greece...well, neither Nowitzki managed 2 beat Greece in the last couple of years! In fact only Navarro and Garbajosa can talk about it:p (until next September of course)
And of course(to get serious again) Nowitzki has the chance to prove Wade wrong this year by winning the championship for the Mavericks...

I think is just a normal teasing between "rival" teams, although I can't in any way agree with Wade obviously. In fact when seeing the thread I had a good laugh :D Who's Wade...

Maybe Dirk didn't had his best games in the last finals games. But he showed so often before and after that he's a Crunch time guy and leader, so it's funny to hear it from a player who cannot lead his team to the Playoffs in the East without Shaq.

Btw, Dirk answered, he seems not to be interested in Daily Soap stuff, but concentrates on basketball and finishes the whole thing:

"I really got nothing to say to that," Nowitzki said. "We're not going back and forth. I don't really know why [Wade] said those things. He won the Finals, so it's over. They were the best team."

This attitude is what makes me (or us) like Dirk even more. Arrogant comments or actions rarely win the sympathy of people, Wade has a lot to learn.

So Wade says it in reaction to Dirk not giving the Heat credit? So?

''At the end of the day,'' Wade said, ``you're remembered for what you did at the end. . . . Please, that's just a player responding to Dirk.

Cuban overreacted like you did.

I like both players. With that said, this is much ado about nothing....

Actually the only one responding calmly is Nowitzki himself.Probably he is preparing his real answer in the court...

I guess he won't answer, he won't take that in count... that wouldn't be professional. He wants to win a ring, which is the best answer, wether wade attacks him or not(if we can say it's an attack). So let's wait and see...

Well, he did start it!

With that said, they both stated that it's done.

"It's over," Nowitzke said. "I said something he didn't like, he said something I didn't like. Now we can concentrate on basketball.

Wade had stated that he was taking up for his teammates when he fired back at Dirk and stated that it was "nothing against Dirk."

"To win a championship is the hardest thing in sports," Wade said. "To hear someone try to take that away from you, it hurts. I was tired of hearing all the riff-raff about it. I didn't start it, but I had to stick up for my guys."

Which Shaq concurred:

"Dirk made a comment, Dwayne made a comment, and then Dirk's daddy [Coach Avery Johnson] had to stick up for him," O'Neal said.

"They are a tough team, a great team, but what we did las year was historical. We took it as an insult. They didn't give us nothing.

Wade and Shaq are definitely not the most humble people to make unbiased comments lol

LOL

Ya'll some drama queens!:D

Damn, it's not like Wade said anything about Dirk's mother! It's not like Dirk didn't disapear in the Finals last year!

It seems like there are more people angry about this then Varejao's hit on Zisis.

I'm not impressed by Dwayne Wade...as a player and in his sportsmanship. He's a selfish player, who on countless occasions decides to take shots and try to drive when he has one or two open players, just because he thinks he's 'that good'. People who compare him to Jordan disgust me. He's a good basketball player...but so is everyone else in the NBA. If it was my team...and I had to fill the slot that he would fill...I'd pick Leandro Barbosa over him, simply because he's more of a team player, just as good of a shooter, and much faster.

I would say this was yet another case of sensationalism by the media.

It's another issue that was blown out of proportion.
