Gilbert Arenas ir ready to return
"And then if they go to Game 5 I’m coming in, I’m going to play. All they are going to do is just sit me in the corner for offense and I’m going to shoot threes, just in case it comes down to a game winner. I still got the Hibachi going. I mean, I can’t walk or run, but I’m going to try. Hell, I could play Games 1-4, just stick me in the corner"
http://www.nba.com/blog/gilbert_arenas.html
58 foreigners from 28 countries will play in Playoffs this year (44/24 last year)
Warriors Suns Spurs and Raptors will have 6 each. All 5 teams with Lithuanians reached playoffs

My thoughts on the first two games
Nets at Raptors
- i was expecting this to happen, for almost every player important piece on Toronto`s roster this was first post season experience. Bosh got two qucik fouls and was benched for most of the first half, but i didn`t like the way he played. He keep jacking up shots from the mid-range instead of going inside, and in the end he missed two important FTs, i think he is the tragic figure of game one. Hero of the game was Boki Nachbar who is coming up huge lately turning himself into a formidable force. When Raptors closed the gap at 1, Nachbar calmly hit three-pointer from the corner and than swished both FTs to seal the win. I really like how this guy is playing taking full advantage of space that is created by Carter, Kidd and Jefferson.
Kidd make sure to get all of his teammates going with 8 first quarter assist, while Vince Carter choked mightly and if the Nets lossed this game it would be because of him. He couldn`t hit anything and keep forcing tough shot after tough shot.
Andrea Bargnani was overwhelmed in his 2nd game after recovering from injury, he played so badly in the first half that Smitch didn`t put him on the floor in the 2nd opting for Kris Humphries instead. Jose Calderon came up huge in a 4th quarter rally, but his turnover when he passed the ball to his teammate Derrick Martin on the bench costed them.
Miami at Chicago
...very very bad officiating, the fouls called on Shaq in the 2nd half were hilarious and with him on the floor Heat would probably win this game. Wade was also in the foul trouble, but was playing were badly during 2nd and 3rd quarter. Somehow he again found his game in the closing minutes bringing the Heat on a verge of comeback, but also making a crucial mistake while firing away fallaway three-pointer on the wing when there was enough time to still pass the ball to someone in the better position. However, his late game appearance gives Heat a hope. Walker was good with some three-pointers and hitting FTs( is 43% on the year, tonight 6/6).
The hero of the game was Nocioni with a series of big-time buckets in the 4th quarter. That guy is a true motor of Chicago, his energy is amaizing and he is as tough as they get. Loul Deng played terrific game, this kid is really turning himself into a All-Star, has great size, basketball IQ and ballhandling ability. Gordon played well, but not so good as boxscore shows.
Swiss Thabo Sefolosha was huge in defending Wade when he was on the floor, while also contributing offensively. This kid will be a big time player, in a year or too. He is long, athletic, can defend, put the ball on the floor or pass. His shooting is a bit erratic at this point.
The highlight of the game was when Ben Wallace hit the shot-clock on a turnaround jumper from the middle-post.

If Markoishvili is right about the Bulls-Heat game, I'm starting 2 think Stern is afraid that Miami can eliminate his favorite and beloved team(and this is not the Bulls of course). So Dallas, San Antonio and Phoenix should b also careful!

I didn't see the game, but the Heat looked unstable and sometimes crappy in the regular season, it wouldn't surprise at all me if they would get eliminated. (I'm still to understand how they were champions last season, but that's another matter).

Orlando@Detroit
- Magic was able to get close late in the game, but the win was never in doubt for the Pistons, who are superior in this series and Magic will have a hard time winning more than a one game. Dwight Howard is terrific physical specimen, but he is so mechanical in the post and his hands are poor. He commited 7 turnovers, missed 8 FTs, he blowed half a dozen of good passes from teammates which should have resulted in easy dunks.
Darko Milicic had a solid showing infront of Detroit crowd, his highlight plays was a terrific assist for a Howard`s dunk late in the game when Orlando needed basket. He had a 2 solid dunks and a nice hook shot. His defense was also alright, despite missing on some rotations. He is much better rebounder than numbers show doing a good job of positioning and boxing out, but since Howard cleans the glass, he doesn`t get many captures in stat-sheet.
Jammer Nelson is a SG in a body of PG, with him on the court Magic offense lacked any fluidity. Dooling did a good job coming of the bench and scoring some points, while Arroyo is excellent offensive player, the shame is that he doesn`t play a lick of defense. Turkoglu hit some big shots, but him and Hill are a step to slow to create things effectively againts Hamilton and Prince.
Billiups hit all the improtant shots for Detroit, while Hamilton worked extremely hard on both ends. Wallace had a good shooting night, otherwise un-impressive showing, whle Carlos Delfino give them some scoring of the bench.
Utah@Rockets
Utah is executing very well and hitting thier shots, whle playing hard defense. T-Mac is out of the game so far, Kirilenko and Giricek did a good job on him. Yao Ming gets all the calls he want down in the post, while being guarded by shorter and athletically poor Mehmet Okur, who is having huge troubles in the post, but hit two three-pointers.
Jazz has a very balanced attack with 5 players scoring between 6 and 8 points, while Yao scored 15 of 33 Houston`s points so far. Deron Williams might be on a good way to log triple-double in his first playoff game...6pts, 8rebs and 6ast at the halftime.

Wizards 82 Cavaliers 97
(Antawn Jamison 28 pts + 14 rebs | Larry Hughes 27 pts)
The Wizards without Arenas are absolutely doomed. It's awful when a team depends so much on a player, imo it's inconceivable how someone can create a team going by that logic.
Lakers 87 Suns 95
(Kobe Bryant 39 pts | Leandro Barbosa 26 pts)

I read that AK47 was crying on practice...
there are some rumors...
*he is mad cuz he is not playing
*he had a nervous breakdown and he is out for the series
I dont know what to believe... and I still hate Sloan, thats the same snit he did to Arroyo

NBA playoffs are as entertaining as ever.
you are hard to go along with but I have to agree with You on this one..
I have spent much of the weekend watching games, I have only missed Cavs - Wizards because there was no direct transmission via satellite in Europe but I have watched the other ones..
and I have to admit the games were great..
with a lots of great bball, drama, turnarounds and with outsiders winning few games..

Kirilenko should leave the Jazz, Sloan is totally destroying him. I wouldn't be surprised if his nervous breakdown was connected to the fact that he does not play as before and is now just another player for the Jazz.

I had some hope the Lakers would win one game, but it looks like I was too optimistic:(
The real surprise 4 me is the Bulls being up 2-0.Probably Wade is not ready yet and the Heat is depending too much on him.Maybe they should change their gameplan a bit 2 give him more time.
I was expecting the Raptors 2 bounce back in game 2.I believe they can escape with one more win in New Jersey and reclaim home court advantage.I think it will b a long series:)

I'm upset with the officiating of the Laker game. If Kobe Bryant shoots more freethrows than the entire Suns than the officiating needs to be evaluated and replaced. The nba shouldn't alieniate it's remaining fans by favoring the Lakers. NBA fans want to see the best teams in the world perform not celebrity basketball. Tonight's Suns game was celebrity basketball featuring Kobe Bryant. If the nba continues to pull the same bullsh*t I'll ignore the playoffs. I'm not the only one the nba ratings and attendence is pitiful relative to the nfl. Get out of New York City, David Stern. You're not as smart as you think you are and the country is ignoring your league. Cuban is right. Establish some fairness that's your only chance to draw some interest in your league.

It depends on how u c it.4 me who haven't watched the game, by looking at the stats it all seems normal!Kobe shot 26 shots, of which 10 were layups(38%) and dunks and 16 were jump shots. All Suns players shot 75 times, of which 17 were layups and dunks(23%) and the rest were jump shots.Kobe shot 13 ft's while the Suns shot 12.I don't c why a team whose offensive game consists mainly on jump shots should shoot many ft's.On the other hand, isn' t it normal that Kobe Bryant goes 2 the line 13 times in a home playoff game when in the regular season he averaged 10 ft per game?
Anyway, maybe the Suns r right though.Maybe they should complain about the refs.So can the Heat about their game 1.It's time 4 the Mavericks and the Spurs 2 complain, maybe their turn is coming!

From the beginning of the 90s I can't think any season that the champions were even eliminated(let alone swept) in the first round. The only case that is even worse 4 the champions was the 1998-99 season when the Bulls didn't qualify 4 the playoffs, which was logical since Jordan had retired and Pippen and Rodman had left the team.

Things r getting very interesting here! The Warriors r in the spot that the Lakers were 1 year ago against Phoenix.Let's c if they can do what LA didn't do.
BTW, the 8th-seeded team has eliminated the top-seeded twice, Denver beat Seattle 3-2 in 1994(coming back from a 0-2 start) and New York beat Miami 3-2 in 1999.Golden State is on the brink of being the first 8th-seeded team 2 eliminate a No1 in a best-of-7 series(change applied first in 2003).
The evolution of these 8th-seeded teams in the playoffs is also interesting:Denver came very close 2 being the first ever team 2 win a series after starting with 0-3(against Utah, they tied at 3-3 but lost game 7).New York won the eastern conference(!) and lost at the finals 2 the Spurs. If the Warriors complete the upset, I believe they have a chance against Houston or Utah...

The Warriors are scary. With Nellie's famous brand of small-ball combined with the super athletic eight rotation players -- Baron Davis, Jason Richardson, Stephen Jackson, Matt Barnes, Monta Ellis, Andris Biedrins, Al Harrington, and Mickael Pietrus. All of them but Biedrins are effective outside shooters.
Dallas seemed afraid to shoot the ball because any rebound that came to the Warriors -- they were off and running.

I also wanted to add that the Warriors have nothing to lose, and though they say all the right things about the Mavs, they don't respect the Mavs and all that they have accomplished. The Golden State Warriors are a bit ignorant, combine that with their super confidence and their 3-1 record against them, and that allows them to come into the series with a swagger.

A very difficult game is coming 4 the Raptors. In New Jersey they didn't look competitive and they have 2 improve much if they want 2 keep their hopes alive.I think the Nets r heavy favorites now.
In the other series, the Mavs' "mistake" was that they made the Warriors believe they can advance. The best way of turning the series around 4 Dallas would b a big emphatic game 2 win.Instead, the Warriors fought this game and took game 3 in a convincing way.The psychology of this series is now reversed and the Warriors act like the stronger team. They have a unique opportunity 2 end the series, but even if they don't make it, they still have another shot.

Awesome game for a Mavs and Warriors fan (save for the result). It really looked like the Mavs were going to be eliminated after the barrage of threes by GS. It's amazing what one game can do for a MVP-candidate -- Dirk really stepped up and looked poised. His aggression is needed for Dallas to win -- he needs to take an Iverson-mentality -- he shoots everytime and let the rest of the Mavs pick up slack.

3. Dirk can be put in the same sentence as KG, Tim Duncan, Elvin Hayes and Karl Malone. Those 4 guys would lit the Wariors up(I'd say 29pts, 15r 3a 3b on avg.).

Watched the boxscore from Nets vs. Cavs from game 1. And i see Carter was forcing shoot after shoot and Nachbar and Jefferson which had a good rythm were not involved enough. Carter shoot 7/23. But that is the NBA and his stars. The same was with the Cavs. Pavlovic with 15 Points and a good game. But James and Hughes also forced it to much. I watched couple of Cavs games this year and James to often force his shoots. I don´t understand this, because he his also a good passer and could help more his team then, then to force this many shoots.

Pistons are looking like when they've won championship ring..
even better I would say, their bench is longer, Webber is more usable in offence then Ben was..
their offence is simply more versatile then it was before while their D is almost on the same level as it was in Brown era..
and the way things are going right now I expect another Pistons - Spurs final..

Utah played a great portion of the game with no PG or anyone close to a PG. Williams and Fisher got into foul trouble too early and Brown was sidelined with injury; so Kirilenko was their playmaker.
Utah is clearly the better team, I'm sure about that; but I'm not sure they can win the series.

R u sure?I have only watched game 3, but from what I've read, Utah won their home games with difficulty and lost easily in Golden State. That's not a sign of a stronger team.It actually reminds me of the Warriors' 1st round series with the Mavs. With a crowd like this I think the Warriors will win all home games, so if they can escape with a victory from Utah, they can win the series.
Levenspiel
05-12-2007, 05:37 PM
Yes, I'm sure the Jazz are the better team, just like the Mavericks was. But the better one does not always win. In this case, it's a matter of adaptation.
Besides, it's better to compare teams when all the stones are in proper places, not when a team has to play with no PG, especially a team like Jazz. In games 2 and 3, Kirilenko was the playmaker.
If Deron can stay in the next game, the series probably will end 4-1. My guess ;).

As I said I've only seen the Warriors just once, that was today in game 3 vs Utah.I liked the tempo of their game and their defense at times while I didn't like the constant ise of 3p which makes their game too dependable on them.Their arena reminds me of Yad Eliahu because of the fans wearing all yellow and because of the noise after every good play of the Warriors.I think that crowd is very helpful 2 the team and that Golden State is the favorite at home in every game in this series. In yesterday's game Williams was in foul trouble very quickly, but even when he was in court he couldn't do much 2 help his team.I think that since the Mavs lost 3 game in Auckland, the Jazz can suffer the same fate.

Personally I like to watch Warriors' up-tempo game, just as I enjoyed Don Nelson's former Mavericks with bombers like Nash, Nowitzki, Finley, Howard and Walker.
But Nelson's main offensive strategy is "chaos", and I believe that will hit a wall somewhere against more "structured" Jazz.
Deron is a very important player for Utah. He's the brain and that's what matters most againts Warriors defense (they always cut the passing lanes and double- or triple-teams Boozer). In the last game, he was apparently angry at the refs and could not contribute in small intervals he could play.

I partly agree with your view of the Warriors.I believe though that as the playoffs r getting deeper, they r finding a kind of offensive plan, a rather simplistic one:"give the ball 2 Baron & Jason they know what 2 do and the rest of us can wait and shoot":D
Probably they will hit a wall indeed, I just believe that they can suffer that against 2 teams, the Spurs and the others that I don't even wanna mention(hint:they will complete a sweep tonight:mad: ).I'm not saying they will eliminate any other opponent, but they can fight anybody else and give them a hard time.

Still, Spurs are dirty. I don't remember them being dirty before this series, except Bruce Lee Bowen
And Horry thinks Nash was flopping then he hit courtside:rolleyes:
Here's interesting info:
The 1996-97 New York Knicks were leading their second round series against the hated Miami Heat three-games-to-one when Heat forward P.J. Brown decided to body slam Knick point guard Charlie Ward into the first row of spectators. A group of concerned Knick players left the bench area to watch the mêlée from the opposite side of the court. As a result, they were then severely shorthanded by similar league suspensions for the remainder of the series. The Knicks eventually went on to lose the series in seven games, after being forced to play without Patrick Ewing, Allan Houston, Larry Johnson, John Starks, and Charlie Ward.
Incredibly, that Knicks versus Heat conflict occurred May 14, 1997.

I'm very much impressed by Boozer in the playoffs. He's emerging as a top5 PF in the league. I might even claim Tim Duncan will have a very tough job in this series.
However, I do not think Jazz have the tools to stop Ginobili & Parker, and imo, that's where the Spurs will probably win the west finals.

Indeed, Deron Williams seems 2 have the future in front of him, he has very good potential and he is evolving into a team leader.I think it will b helpful 4 him that he has played college bball and he was a star there, in terms of knowing basics of the sport.

Spurs made it to 2-0.
The interesting thing is that Spurs play excellent with their stars and role players, they make great moves in offense and good defense, see some heroics from Ginobili, while the Jazz lose easy basket opportunities, shoot much worse both from the field and perimeter; yet they caught up with Spurs at their both meetings...
I guess this is "always looking on the bright side of life" ;).

Ginobili's 5 straight points in the final seconds of the 3rd quarter and Bowen's 3 threepointers in the money time, when the Jazz were desperately trying to strike back finished the game.
Parker was absolutely great, looking like a real PG in one of these few nights in his life. Hats off.
No comment about Duncan. The man is arguably the best PF ever. Gino scored when needed and played great defense as always.
Memo and Kirilenko were not tragic, but really average. Huge dissapointment.
The Spurs are just too strong.

I also think that the Spurs r the clear favorite, mainly because of their experience. They have the ability 2 slow down LeBron in some games, which will give them a couple of victories. The key is the first 2 games in San Antonio;if the Spurs win both they r heavy favorites, it's very difficult 4 the Cavs 2 make a second straight comeback from 0-2.But let's not forget that Cleveland won both regular season games.Maybe that means absolutely nothing, but it may imply a difficulty of the Spurs vs this particular opponent. Most probable score imo is 4-2
Spurs won't be caught napping and in the playoffs, the game is slower and the ball goes into the paint more. That's where Tim Duncan will make a huge presence felt. LeBron won't be allowed to venture inside as much as Detroit allowed him to.
I don't thnik regular season games count for too much... and the scorelines were pretty close in both games anyway.

Parker unlocked Cavs defense by a 4-point play and two great assists in consecutive sets in the second period. Game was over already!
James sucked. He was at 0-8 and 2-12 fg till the garbage minutes in the last period where he scored two threes.

u no wot i reckon the series may actually be tied at some point. Happens year to year in the finals, with the leading team usually up 2-0 and let 1 or 2 games slip b4 gathering together 2 finish the series strong.
My predictions: I think the spurs will win game 2, then a series of loose 1 win 1 until the series is 4-2 spurs win championship. I don't think cleveland right now have the 'essential' pieces to win a championship. There's too much LeBron and not enough offensive help from teamates.

Cleveland needs big offensive games by another player 2 win games.I believe if they can find 4 such games, they will do it.The question is which players can do that...If we look at game 1, we can c Duncan dominating in the paint just like he did vs Utah, Parker making the Cavs' defense collapse with his drives(he is by far quicker than the injured Hughes and Pavlovic and more experienced than Gibson), Manu shooting well and contributing in the offensive game too, Bowen playing great defense on LeBron(with the assistance of Duncan always) and even hitting a couple of 3s 2 help increase the lead.We saw the Spurs moving the ball quickly and correctly, getting open shots(only Finley was missing them), we saw the rest of the frontline helping too(Elson finished some plays and Horry gave out 6 assists, plus he put the final stab on the Cavs bringing the difference to 18).
On the other hand, LeBron was nowhere for 43 mins, Ilgauskas couldn't face Duncan, Hughes couldn't help, Gooden was good in the 3rd quarter, but unnoticeable in the rest. What does remain?Gibson, Varejao and Pavlovic.Well, what could anybody expect rather than an easy win 4 the Spurs? However, when James woke up(late) the 18 points became 9 and that's a psychological win 4 the Cavaliers 4 game 2.
I also think that San Antonio will win game 2 and Cleveland will win game 3.Then I expect the teams 2 share the next 2 matches and San Antonio 2 close the series in game 6.But who knows...maybe LeBron has other things in his mind;)

I would say that too if it weren't 4 the final 6-7 mins of the game and if I didn't remember the 2005 finals(two easy victories 4 the Spurs in SA followed by two easy victories 4 the Pistons in Detroit). Is that what u want or what u believe?

Oh, that's what I want :).
Although Cavs may get a win at home, I still believe that's not very likely. You know, it's always more fun watching games if you've been into some sort of betting ;).

In my heart I wish the Cavaliers will win but my brains think that the Spurs will win... Considering the finals is between Lebron James against the triumvirate of Tim Duncan-Manu Ginobili-Tony Parker... the odds for Cavs to win is @#$%ing huge!... So the Spurs by 4-2

The second game also followed the Spurs tradition; first boost the lead to 30 points, then let it melt away in the last quarter.
I guess they've been too bored with playing Jazz and Cavs, and wanted to bring some excitement to the games.

OK game 4 is tonight and it probably will b the last game of the season.Let's c what the Spurs can do 2 make it more entertaining and interesting.I've lost hope that LeBron could change sth dramatically in the series.Actually the only hope 4 the Cavs 2 win at least a game is 2 find an unexpected hero like Daniel Gibson in game 6 vs the Pistons. And the way I c this team, Gibson would b the most likely 2 repeat that performance, if someone should. At least let it b a close game with the winner being determined in the end.

The nba regular season is so soft players like Lebron couldn't be effective with the physicality of the finals. Even though the nba plays more games the euroleague and uefa have more real competions. It was easy too see whom were prepared for the finals, spurs and whom weren't, cavs. Maybe the nba could increase competetiveness of the regular season by cutting the playoff teams from 16 to 8.

Spurs 83 Cavaliers 82 (Manu Ginóbili 27 pts + 5 rebs | LeBron James 24 pts + 10 assists + 6 rebs)
Spurs champions with a sweep and Parker named the MVP of the final. The year of the Europeans in the NBA and perhaps the least interesting finals in years.

Easy series 4 the Spurs and a clear victory in game 4 no matter what the score shows.Parker was deservedly the MVP because he was the most consistent between the Spurs' big 3.Duncan didn't play so well in Cleveland, he was very good in 2 quarters but mediocre in the other 6(yesterday he was good only in defense) and Manu had an off night in game 3.LeBron was a disappointment in the finals considering his performances in the eastern finals and no other Cavalier managed 2 step up and help.Probably Gooden was the most consistent one, but he didn't make his presence felt under the basket.Ilgauskas was good only in game 3, Gibson was good considering his age and(lack of) experience, Varejao was the one who fought more than the others, but he ruined everything with his bad choice in game 3 when he could have won the match and change the whole series.Maybe it will b a valuable lesson 4 the Cavs in their effort 2 gain experience and establish themselves as a top team. The Spurs r without doubt the best team in the last 5 years. They r not the most exciting team 2 watch, but they do the right things in the right time. The only thing left 4 them is 2 win back-to-back titles. They should b considered the top favorite 4 next year, but I think they will have 2 find the motivation 2 keep their performance level 2 repeat as champions.
