Bashing our team at this stage will not help. At the least we should still support them as they will play very critical games tomorrow and on monday. Let's not lose hope yet. Though Team Pilipinas played very poorly today, we should keep faith and hope that we can still make it. After all, we still have a chance since the games will still be played. Please don't say that we will lose because the games against China and Jordan have not yet started. Most of us are disappointed at the results, but let's hope that the coming days will be better for Team Pilipinas.

I just want our team to play as what they really are. If they play like how they did in Jones Cup and the Manila Invitationals(except with the few errors in our china loss), they can win it. My prayers will include them.

the first game of the RP team against Iran is really a spoiler..they spoiled the hype and excitement created by the press releases and their magnificent performances in the Jones Cup and the Manila Invitational Tournament :eek:
this game vs. China, will be the redemption or the initial exit, and the game vs. Jordan will be the conclusion.. I wish, hope and pray that RP gets past through this elimination round..make or break..hopefully there will be no ifs and what ifs this time..and sana hindi na natin makita yun sloppy type of ballgame na pinakita nila, hay, if they play the rest of the games like the way they played their first game, definitely, they are not worthy of being into the 2nd round.

if RP finish the group with an 0-3 than it will be a repeat of ur region,s basketball tournament where RP,HKG and IND will fight for the 13-16 positions along with UAE or Kuwait.......:) this would be a horrible finish after RP,s expectations were in winning Asia and Chot Reyes saying things like "We can beat the chinese" and we know he meant the 1st team with its NBA players........btw why did he get a technical in the Iran game what did he do ?
^I think he yelled that there was travelling on an Iranian player... I don't know, the referee maybe being too sensitive charged him a technical... even I was shocked about that call... that really turned the game around since we were gaining momentum that time... :(

never never never never question a referee. they call the shots no matter what kahit mali pa sila. period. no question about it. nada nothing .

in my opinion, in group A, china is the weakest followed by jordan then iran isthe strongest.
jordan is only strong because of rasheim. stop rasheim and his fallback backup and jordan becomes easy. jordan has a shallow but strong frontline.
iran is just physically strong and tall specially on defense so its important for your field goal shots and offensive patterns to click . one-on-one will not work against iran.
china is the weakest right now because of the players she sent and their very short preparations.
if the philippines can play focused , focused and focused ball and their shots finally goes in, they can continue their good rebounding(they outrebounded Iran by the way) and no more nervous jitters then we should get wins finally...

yes, but ending up from 13-14 doesnt mean that we are not a threat in ASIA..We all know that GROUP A is the GROUP of Death... Luck wasnt on our side when they draw the teams.... Teams that will placed from 12 and UP doesnt mean that they are better than RP... They are just lucky that they have to face WEAKER teams first before playing against the top contenders.... It might happen to LEBANON too for the next qualifying tournaments...if they placed in GROUP A with IRAN JORDAN AND CHINA.... they may end up in 13-14 place too... but we all know that TEAM LEBANON and TEAM RP is better than ending up in the last place...we never know....
btw, Coach Reyes got a T buy simply yelling a travelling violation that the ref's didnt call.... I saw the game and coach chot was right... It was a travelling... The referees should not call T's during crunch time... They definitely decided the game.....

Odds are against Team Pilipinas winning this game. Even if they do beat the chinese it'll be very tough to advance to the next round.

Nothing personal man but lebanon will never be grouped in such a group cuz they are ranked 23 in the world the 2nd best in asia hence they are POT A in the draw where philippines is POT D ( ranked 65th) and their ranking wont change much if they lose in the 1st round this year.......and btw it could,ve been worse for RP , ur lucky china sent their 2nd best team...if they didnt , RP would,ve lost against YAO ming and the NBA stars 2morrow and it would be over from now so ur lucky that china have their 2nd team and u have some chance of beating them tomorrow.....so ur lucky in this point cuz i highly doubt u can beat China A like chot reyes says....and btw i really like RP but whats up with their coach if he wins a game than his expectations get too high , and each time he loses he uses the phrase "its a good loss" and it will only do us well and after ur loss today he also said "im glad the team played with some heart in the 4th quarter" ofcourse ur gonna play with your heart your representing 80 million people watching you on TV !! ....he thinks like a kid and always using excuses and lies to get himself out of problems....common guys nothing personal but u need to find a coach with some balls haha :p !!!

well our team really has to beat china today and then hope for the best...
for me it would be better if iran beat jordan today and then rp beat china so that it will just be a knockout game on monday bet. rp and jordan...
bec. if jordan beat iran today and rp beat china, it will be a very difficult situation especially if iran beat china on monday. even if rp beats jordan on moday, iran might still advance to the quarterfinals by virtue of winner over the other rule... i hope im wrong with this one but i think the winner over the rule will be applied in this scenario not the quotient system... so it would really be better if iran beat jordan today and then of course a win by rp... goodluck to our team!

DUDE HOW SURE ARE YOU 13TH PLACE?????
top 2 in each group will vie for 1st to 8th place, they will form group 1 and 2.
3rd and 4th placer in evry group will form group 2 and 3 for placings.
meaning a3c3b4d4 in group 3 and a4c4b3d3 will form group 4
top two in each group will vie for 9th place to 12th place and the lossers will battle for last 4 spots. 13th to 16th.
if TP will not qualify for the quaters... the best place they could finish is either 9th or 10th....(along with china if jordan and iran will top group a)

ur team is very lucky bro... imagine if rp, jordan and iran were in your group, i think that scenario could've happened right? only the top4 teams in the last fiba-asia were separated in groups right? so that's china, ur team, qatar and korea... and if china send its team a then jordan will not beat china in the first game so it will be a battle bet.iran, rp and jordan for 2nd place...

ya if china sent its A team it would,ve been a 3 way battle but u already lost to Iran by 6 so u had to win Jordan by a decent margin such as 8-10pts and hope Iran loses to jordan in that same margin almost so that u would all have identicals records(1-2) but u would end up with the best quotient....the way you are now is much more comfortable trust me :)

Let's just pray and unite for the Philippine team. I think the philippines should press our tall opponents which is I am expecting but they didn't do so that we can use of our quickness in terms of defense. They have just done it in the late part of the fourth quarter. I think if we will just do again that kind of aggressiveness, we could get a lot of steals and will make way for fastbreak points for our team. The team also did not take advantage of the foul trouble of the Iraninians in the third quarter. In that game, I think Iran really deserves to win even if coach Chot didn't get a technical from the referee. I would like to congratulate Kerby for showing the heart of a true Filipino and to other players who are giving their best effort to help the team.
So guys, let's just support our team and let's just pray for our team for guidance especially to coach Reyes to be calm for him to be able to think good plays for our team. :) We still have a chance even if we will only win one game.
IRAN 3 0 (If Iran will beat Jordan, then beat China)
PHIL 1 2 (If Philippines lost to China, then won Jordan)

if we can't beat China B today, i can't imagine will finish from 13th to 16th place.. if before this tourney, people are half united what more if they lose! so this game, is a must! i don't think China will just roll over, their coach has some pride and he don't want to finish this tourney empty handed.. easing the pressure of RP players should be the primary role of Coach Chot now and all the delegation in Japan.. Noli Eala and the rest should stop pressuring those guys, i know PBA's future is at stake here but the more they pressure the players the more they lost their confidence and focused.. imagine shooting 24% overall and 21% from inside the arc?! :eek:

the level of comparison between chinese team B to team A is not even equal to pbl to pba and rp team lost once to that sorry team which is composed of only 22 year old and below( given the fact that the chinese authorities has the record of under-reporting players age, I added 3years to 19 but hey, 22 is still very young), now you tell me who is the loser? and if rp beats china tonite, and somehow manage to beat jordan later on, you should thank china for sending some softees, otherwise, rp would of been eliminated

I got a good feeling were gonna nail this game. I think the pressure for them is somewhat lesser today than in was yesterday. After that stinging loss, everyone here just HOPES we win against China, not like yesterday where they were SUPPOSED to win vs Iran. I feel all the butterflies in the players (and coaches) stomachs are behaved now and their gonna play loose and free.
Right now, their fate in the tournament isnt entirely in their hands anymore. Even if the RP team wins 2 straight, were still gonna hope we get the better quotients in order to advance. Some of the pressure's been released and I truly believe were gonna see a much, much, much better RP team today.

One more thing to pump the team up. I bet the KERBINATOR's last game buoyed up the whole team's spirit and taught everybody how to represent the "three stars and a sun", with pride, honor and a never-say-die mentality.

maybe Seigle will just ruin their long practiced plays and the chemistry.
Seigle is burdened too much by being labelled as the number one option offensively and he forces it just as renren is bothered psychologically by the expectation that he is just a three point shooter and he should score once inserted. It didnt help also that renren was the last player chosen....if he cant hack it, it could bother him.

Based from the first half, sorry to say this, all I see is RP team gasping and choking, they dont have a clue on how to break the zone, I think this is it for the RP this year, there should be revamp and reform. PBA should allow zone defence, euro coach/players should be introduced to PBA.

you're right! i think we play better today because we can run and execute what we do in jones cup. teamwork wins a game especially if alapag, dondon, mark, jj, kerby, kelly play better.

RP Beats China, 79-74
* First, I would like to thank China, for sending their Team "B" in this tournament. We would have almost no probable chance of beating their Team "A", but this Team "B" is different as it is a little bit more beatable.
* I was having 2nd thoughts of watching this game, but, well, then again, I thought, I need to see this through, after following the RP NT closely over the last couple of months.
'Chinese Team B'
* Adiljan's gambit of not pulling out players in foul trouble came back to haunt him in this game. Dr. Jao said its like a custom for foreign teams like SK & China, but it is a bad custom, one I hope they continue to keep. With their starting PG fouling out, this team simply DISINTEGRATED when the RP team started pressing them. Turnover after turnover after turnover, it allowed the RP team to climb back slowly in the 3rd quarter before finally getting the lead about halfway to the 4th quarter.
* This team also couldn't muscle us underneath, we were able to keep pace w/ them in terms of rebounding despite their superiority in height.
* Its just a very young, inexperienced team. I think China is willing to sacrifice losing games & tournaments for now, hoping it will eventually pay off in the future. They do have some good promising players there, like Yi Li, their starting Center & Bo Wang. Whether those promise will eventually be fulfilled, we'll see.
'RP National Team'
* "The Kerbinator" continued to play well in this game, doing what he does best: Playing very steadily, converting easy, open shots underneath the basket, rebounding & coming up w/ those great one-on-one moves. 'Iba talaga, pag matatag ang puso' (translation: A big heart really makes a difference).
* It was Kelly William's turn to step up in this game. He played a terrific defensive game: Rebounding, & more importantly, getting a LOT of interceptions & steals, INCLUDING the most crucial one w/ only 3.6 seconds to go. Dammit, we need to think of a monicker for Kelly now.
* Another player who stepped up, is no less than "The Mighty Mouse" himself, Jimmy Alapag. Jimmy sustained us w/ his 3 pt. shots when the going got tough, & orchestrated the plays VERY well for the team. Without that steady direction, its hard for me to imagine us winning this game.
* For the 2nd straight game, Mark Caguioa simply shot poorly from field, along w/ Don Don Hontiveros. Where was Caguioa's 45% 3 pt. shooting & 48% 2 pt. shooting in the Jones Cup? Same w/ Don Don, who shot 55% of his 2 pt. shots & 41% of his 3 pt. shots in the same tournament? I think the answer, is that our opponents simply stepped up their INDIVIDUAL DEFENSIVE effort, making it harder for all our players to hit their shots. Except for a few who have stepped up, & delivered.
* I don't agree about Chot's sticking w/ Caguioa even if he was playing badly for the 2nd straight game. I felt that, when he saw Mark not hitting his shots & committing turnovers, he should at least given some playing time to Renren. It was a big gamble for him sticking w/ Mark, & it payed off this time as Mark made his shots just at the right moment in the end game. But it won't always be that way. Chot shouldn't take too many chances like that, he should do what is "safe" & sensible.
* With "The Kerbinator" & Williams playing well, a player w/ the name of "Danny" was forgotten (Danny who?). But I think DS will be given some playing time later, I was a bit worried seeing Kelly getting all banged up in this game. I don't think he will be able to keep it up for a couple of games.
'Parting Shots'
* W/ Kelly & "The Kerbinator" playing well underneath, & Jordan playihg without the 7'0" Almaaytah, we have better chance of beating this team. The biggest headache, though, will be their IMPORT, Rasheem Wright. I wonder if we could try to get that bastar_ in foul trouble by attacking him early on offense. Another tough game for the RP NT, we'll have to go thru the eye of the needle in that game, I hope we pull thru.

Danny Siegle may be a GREAT player but his "greatness" in court is negated by his proneness to injuries. His contributions would be greatly appreciated but until he starts delivering those baskets, we should not rely on him to bring Team Pilipinas to "Beijing".

obviously caguioa's one on one moves were very difficult to execute here

cant u see the history??? after establishing the PBA in 1975 all talents wanted to play there for money of course. but we forgot to still banner our flags in international competition. thats wen the country started to fail in international competition.
the last better team we have was the nothern consolidated bannered by caidic, which beated the chinese in 1985. the was the last... and caidic turned pro after a few year and the national who was then mentored by mr jacobs was abolished...
that was the day when many of us were addics of the PBA, the PBA back then was only commited itself to ASIAN Games every 4 years, which in fact is not as prestigious as ABC or Asian Championship.
and with the coming of the late 90s and until now the popularity of the PBA was slowly declining... while others in the region are becoming stronger and stronger... plus the politics at the OLD F*CKIN BAP!
then i think that was the time na "natauhan" na sila... they must make the basketball popular again by regaining the glory in ASIA and at the same time keeping the PBA alive and making it the breeding ground for prospective national pool talents...
its like hitting two birds in one stone...
so let us still support the PBA and love our national team:)

RP Beats China, 79-74
* First, I would like to thank China, for sending their Team "B" in this tournament. We would have almost no probable chance of beating their Team "A", but this Team "B" is different as it is a little bit more beatable.
* I was having 2nd thoughts of watching this game, but, well, then again, I thought, I need to see this through, after following the RP NT closely over the last couple of months.
'Chinese Team B'
* Adiljan's gambit of not pulling out players in foul trouble came back to haunt him in this game. Dr. Jao said its like a custom for foreign teams like SK & China, but it is a bad custom, one I hope they continue to keep. With their starting PG fouling out, this team simply DISINTEGRATED when the RP team started pressing them. Turnover after turnover after turnover, it allowed the RP team to climb back slowly in the 3rd quarter before finally getting the lead about halfway to the 4th quarter.
* This team also couldn't muscle us underneath, we were able to keep pace w/ them in terms of rebounding despite their superiority in height.
* Its just a very young, inexperienced team. I think China is willing to sacrifice losing games & tournaments for now, hoping it will eventually pay off in the future. They do have some good promising players there, like Yi Li, their starting Center & Bo Wang. Whether those promise will eventually be fulfilled, we'll see.
'RP National Team'
* "The Kerbinator" continued to play well in this game, doing what he does best: Playing very steadily, converting easy, open shots underneath the basket, rebounding & coming up w/ those great one-on-one moves. 'Iba talaga, pag matatag ang puso' (translation: A big heart really makes a difference).
* It was Kelly William's turn to step up in this game. He played a terrific defensive game: Rebounding, & more importantly, getting a LOT of interceptions & steals, INCLUDING the most crucial one w/ only 3.6 seconds to go. Dammit, we need to think of a monicker for Kelly now.
* Another player who stepped up, is no less than "The Mighty Mouse" himself, Jimmy Alapag. Jimmy sustained us w/ his 3 pt. shots when the going got tough, & orchestrated the plays VERY well for the team. Without that steady direction, its hard for me to imagine us winning this game.
* For the 2nd straight game, Mark Caguioa simply shot poorly from field, along w/ Don Don Hontiveros. Where was Caguioa's 45% 3 pt. shooting & 48% 2 pt. shooting in the Jones Cup? Same w/ Don Don, who shot 55% of his 2 pt. shots & 41% of his 3 pt. shots in the same tournament? I think the answer, is that our opponents simply stepped up their INDIVIDUAL DEFENSIVE effort, making it harder for all our players to hit their shots. Except for a few who have stepped up, & delivered.
* I don't agree about Chot's sticking w/ Caguioa even if he was playing badly for the 2nd straight game. I felt that, when he saw Mark not hitting his shots & committing turnovers, he should at least given some playing time to Renren. It was a big gamble for him sticking w/ Mark, & it payed off this time as Mark made his shots just at the right moment in the end game. But it won't always be that way. Chot shouldn't take too many chances like that, he should do what is "safe" & sensible.
* With "The Kerbinator" & Williams playing well, a player w/ the name of "Danny" was forgotten (Danny who?). But I think DS will be given some playing time later, I was a bit worried seeing Kelly getting all banged up in this game. I don't think he will be able to keep it up for a couple of games.
'Parting Shots'
* W/ Kelly & "The Kerbinator" playing well underneath, & Jordan playihg without the 7'0" Almaaytah, we have better chance of beating this team. The biggest headache, though, will be their IMPORT, Rasheem Wright. I wonder if we could try to get that bastar_ in foul trouble by attacking him early on offense. Another tough game for the RP NT, we'll have to go thru the eye of the needle in that game, I hope we pull thru.

The Filipinos led the Chinese by six points, 73-67, with about one and half minutes to play but saw their lead whittled down to one, 75-74, with 18 seconds to go.
Jimmy Alapag led the Filipinos' effort with 25 points. Mark Caguioa and Kerby Raymundo added 16 and 12 points, respectively.
China was up 11 points over San Miguel-Team Pilipinas, 49-38, at halftime. The Chinese led by as much as 14 in the second quarter.
But the Filipinos came up with a strong third quarter to narrow its deficit against China to a measly point, 57-58, at the end of the period.
With about six minutes to go, San Miguel-Team Pilipinas led China by four points, 66-62.

Check the arab nations now. When did the arabs begin to be good in basketball? Just a few years ago. Only in 2000. While us, we have been dominating asia prior to the war yet we allowed the arabs to keep in pace when they've just began their program a few years back. That's efficiency for you.

Survival of the fittest for RP against Jordan tomorrow.. The RP players should put all heart into the game thats a good spirit that gave them the win today against China.. Hope they could get that coming and the better they could improve those field goals in the last two games (Vs. Iran and China) we had more attempts but most of them were missed shots.

However, PBA should now pattern their rules with FIBA, not with the NBA who are NOW IN THE DARK in international competitions, even with their so-called DREAMing-TEAM!!!
I think we are now learning our lessons and I hope that PBA/SBP are absorbing it well!
I guess it's time to say GOODBYE to AMERICAN HOOPS SYTLE instead say hello with the REAL WORLD BASKETBALL!!!

Jimmy played tremendous ball game all throughout.. Kelly Williams the forgotten one yesterday played all out diving for lose balls and almost literally dying for the game.. wow! congrats to Team Pilipinas!

honestly guys, i dont know, if this is a special gift or not. before the game against iran yesterday, i felt that there was something wrong, that we will lose the game with a heartbreak effect. but this time against jordan, i really felt good that im seeing a very hungry, determined, well-prepared TEAM PILIPINAS! now, im excited to see that game! VIVA LA FILIPINA!!:)
