In the very immediate future, we will be losing a very valuable member and moderator to IBN -- sariss will be joining the army and will be gone for an indefinite amount of time. Sariss hasn't been at IBN as long as a lot of us, but in the time he has been with us, he has been both a valuable member and an even more valuable moderator. As both, he was always very articulate and level-headed, two attributes that members of any successful forum must have. So please help me in wishing sariss a happy "see you later".
Good luck sariss, hope to see you back at IBN soon my friend,
Stuart

PS: I never served in the army or whatever and I'm glad I never did, I just can't stand all that army thing.

Good luck sariss - get through it well and come back soon, we need you here :)
See you later, mate!
Good luck Sariss and I'm sure you'll be back with us after your duty.
BTW, nice timing, are you rooting to serve the army with Mirsad and IBO :D
PS. Turkish army ( mandatory duty) is only for men and is about 1 year if I'm right (keeps changing all the time). For Turks living abroad it's only about 1 months general training, so I cannot become a commando like Sariss will be :)

LOL
I'm glad I'm not
36 months.. at least you get to learn some stuff there, not like in the infamous Yugoslav National Army, that nevermind being the europe's 3rd strongest army on paper couldn't even organise a succesfull battalion exercise... I think Israel is 180 degree away than mandatory anywhere in the balkans
If case mandatory service looks like the old JNA, than that's a complete waste of time and air, while if you'd get in an infantry platoon with airborne ranger, french legionaire, UK and US marine that's a whole lot different song

Thanks a lot Stuart, and everyone. :)
Yeah, I'm away for a whole year starting from tomorrow morning.
There were two possibilities for me: either 5 months (difficult) or 12 months (easier + salary). I had no chance to select, however. They decided to accomodate me as an engineer in the air forces for 12 months.
I'll surely miss IBN. I'll try to drop by whenever I have a chance, but that will not be very often, for sure.
Please ask your governments not to wage any war till next august. :P
bye! ;)
(I cannot read or reply your messages from now on. Sorry for that. and thanks in advance.)

Good luck bro. One year isn't really that long (I was there for 5 and a half...).
And if Turkey & Israel renew their army maneuvers, just pay us a visit here. :)
We'll miss you so much sariss. I hope the time will pass easily for you and you'll come back very soon. Our threads will be quiet while you're not here :(

Even if way too late (due to vacations), best of luck to Sariss. I served 9 years ago and it was 10 months back then in Germany. I have no idea how long it is now

Sariss, I hope you don't get involved in any of this mess in Iraq. There is a lot of talk here that Turkey is putting troops on the border. Stay safe, man!!
I miss you, buddy!

I think airbase full of F-16's is quite a safe place to be
you're still there sariss, right?
I do not envy any infantry on the borders though, especialy if they'll actualy move in... infantry isn't called cannon-food for no reason afterall... especialy if made out of "few moths conscripts", profesional soldiers should handle it since they've decided for that on their own and should be properly trained in an army like turkish one, but I do feel sorry for the conscripts and their families...

Thanks Matt. It's great to see you back.
As for the Iraq issue, yes you're right, but for the time being I'm quite away from the borders.

Yeah, I'm in the base... full of F16's. It's a safe and nice place, as long as no plane crushes on me. And, it's a bit too noisy, you know.
I felt deeply sorry for all our losses, as the whole nation did. Thanks for your condolences, mate. They're practically in a war there.
