Actually you are wrong there.Many stories concerning Oly have been revealed in Israel media first , due to Gershon.I can't remember specifics but this was ordinary last summer.

another bullshit, imo. the thing is that Saras would like to stay in NBA for another season, but in different team (not in Worriors). But the point is that Saras can do nothing by him self. He only can wait for the moment when worriors will ex-change him. If this is true so we have to wait for the fresh news about his new club. otherwise, he's still waits and has no idea where he'll play next season. I think it's a matter of buyout negotiations.Saras wants the maximum possible, the Warriors r trying 2 reduce that because it counts in the salary cap.The Warriors have another advantage, that the european teams want 2 finish their rosters earlier than the american ones,so the player is the one under time pressure(plus there is the EC and Jasikevicius would like 2 have signed before it starts).We just have 2 b patient.

there were he had 13 points and 8 assists but he objectivly performed an average game with a ranking of 15 while diamantidis with 16 pts, 6 rbs, 5 assists , 3 steals , 1 block and a ranking of 25 clearly dominated the matchup.

Diamantidis was playing against Parker in that game. Jasikevicius and him were not directly matched up. Besides, Sarunas was guiding his team perfectly and thus became the MVP of the tournament. Other players put up the scoring on the table.

I was on holiday and today I read what you guys believe.

I wrote from June that Saras will join Olympiakos and he will.

Saras activated his last year with GSW knowing that the team does not want him and they will waive him in order to get a compesetion.

Olympiacos has signed 2 Americans(max allowed in Greece), the second one(the one that signed later) with a 2 year contract.In the announcement of the deal there was no mentioning that he will play only in the EL, as the greek media was reporting back then.
Since the story about Jasikevicius being "close" 2 Piraeus came out, there hasn't been printed a single new name as a potential target of Oly.
If Oly signs an American PG, Qyntel Woods doesn't play in the greek league and the team has 5 foreigners in the league(limit is 6).However, this summer Andrija Zizic was released because there was no foreign spot 4 him and signed 2 PAO!

Before a game, there are earphones plugged in the ears of Šarūnas Jasikevičius. He distances himself from outside sounds, from speech of the others and thinks of the upcoming game while listening to music. Recently, it's been Spanish music.

"Mana ... Juanas ... Estopa ... " - he mentions his favourite performers. When playing for "Barcelona", Šaras got to know Spain very well - the country, where the Eurobasket-2007 starts on Monday.

That was the country where he made his debut in the Lithuanian national team - exactly 10 years ago, being 21 years of age. From that team, which took the 6th place in 1997, he is the only survivor in the current roster.

Šaras, what associations does Spain evoke for you?

The years spent in Spain. I felt like home there. I know the country and its culture really well, speak the language, have many friends. Lithuania is my most beloved country, my motherland where I was born and grew up, while Spain is the favourite of all the other places.

Your favourite Spanish drink?

Depends on the situation - whether it's holiday or work time (smiles).

Dish?

Sea food.

Distraction?

Restaraunt with friends and a discotheque.

City?

Barcelona.

Person?

I have many friends in Spain. Very goods friends, for whom I long. I have very good relations with the Spanish NT - I've played against many of their guys and know them well. Overall, Barcelona is full of my friends.

Which one Spanish phrase must our fans know, when going to Spain?

In an advertisement of our NT sponsors, you act as a toreador in one scene. Do you like the corrida?

No. I think it's cruel. I'm appalled by anything which is directed against animals - their torturing, killing. Bullfight is a very nasty part of the Spanish culture.

Have you been there?

Yes. Both in traditional corrida, and in one where young toreadors learn by fighting smaller bulls. I like going to places where there are lots of people, good mood. But the idea itself - torture an animal, then slay it - is cruel. I am against it.

Together with Žydrūnas Ilgauskas, you have taken part in running from the bulls in the streets of Pamplona. Did you like it?

It was the week prior to Ilgauskas' wedding, when male friends make all kinds of fun. We ran right at the spearhead of the crowd to keep away from the bulls. I reached the stadium among the first - that means my pants were the most full ... (laughs) ... I can tell it really openly. Indeed, those bulls look impressive when they're close.

Do you like Mallorca? (Lithuania's games in the group stage will be played there)

I have a flat in Mallorca. Bought it as investment. I was there only once, when the construction works were going on. It's been equiped long ago, but I haven't seen that.

That will be a chance to get a look?

My parents will live there during the championship.

When the championship draw was made, did you wish to get into the "Mallorca group" ?

When the draw was made, I didn't know if I'd play for the NT. I didn't watch the draw. I was told only later that Lithuania will play in Mallorca. But it's OK for me to play in any place in Spain.

Your last time in the NT was in 2004, now you come back. How were the years in between?

For my career, those years were bad. Two NBA seasons passed, things didn't work out well. I got into teams where I wasn't used to my strenghts. No one really tried to do that. It was more important to give some 7-8 players minutes before me. Those years were bleak.

Did you long for things which you found in the NT?

Now, the NT is a bit different. All those guys, with whom I came to the NT, have left. The sole fact that I'm the oldest in our team tells a lot. There are younger ones, almost ten years younger. It's terrible! ... laughs ... But time goes on. Soon I'll end my career, others will come. I'm on good terms with other players, but the age difference is considerable and it is there.

Do you know that it's 10 years since your debut in the NT?

Yes. And it happened in Spain, if we consider only official tournaments.

How was your debut then, in Eurobasket-97?

At that time, I played for Maryland in NCAA and didn't realise yet how important the national team would be to me. I didn't take the NT very seriously. I was 21 years old, in America I lost a bit of contact with Europe and didn't even realise how much people in Lithuania support our NT.

I was really relaxed. Didn't know what to expect - will I play a lot, or only little. I remember wanting to play more. I thought the coach (J. Kazlauskas) was discriminating, giving minutes only to the "elders", "his own guys". Of course, the coach was more used to them, and I was too young. The main players then were Gintaras Einikis and Darius Lukminas. Sabonis had left after Atlanta-96. New coach Kazlauskas had come, together with new generation of players - including me.

Do you think you could have started your NT career earlier?

I think I could have gone to the Olympics in 1996 already, as the team always had problems at PG position. At least, they could have invited me to the training camp. Even in 1995, I think. But coaches always try to be with people to whom they're used. Vladas Garastas was inviting other players, while I thought - why am I not invited? I had won several youth tournaments, I was able at least to train with the NT. But the old guard was still there, and they didn't need brats like me to disturb them.

What games - won or lost - did etch the most in your memory?

The most terrible game that we lost was the quarterfinal of Eurobasket 99 in France. Žalgiris Kaunas provided its players just after victory in the Euroleague, Sabonis joined in a very good shape, and we looked wonderful. I don't know why, but the quarterfinal was a black day. I'll never forget that day. (Note: Lithuania lost to Spain 72-74, Jasikevičius scoring 22 points.) We were by far the strongest in that tournament. We smashed Italy, which later became champions, by 25 points! Terrible. This quarterfinal was the cruellest game ever.

On the other hand, all the best memories are related to olympic games and the gold of Eurobasket 2003 in Sweden.

Did you have a chance to hit that last-second three-pointer in the famous semi-final versus USA in Sydney-2000?

No. I always told that there were no chances. Of course, a "goof" can always fall in - like that one against Spain recently, from 26 metres. The game in Sydney was there to be taken by us. With a minute left, we controlled the situation, but we made some errors, unallowed if you want to win such games.

With witch NT coach the working experience was the best?

Maybe with Jonas Kazlauskas - because I had worked with him in national youth teams. He is the most universal of all the coaches. Antanas Sireika always used a small five, now Ramūnas Butautas uses two tall players, while Kazlauskas always tried to adapt. It's too early to speak about Butautas now. Concerning Sireika, we worked 2 years with him, and the gold in Sweden will never be erased - we will always remember it.

I like that all those three coaches have their paths. No one tries to copy anybody - they just have their directions and follow them. This is the most important for a coach. Furthermore, don't forget there isn't a single player for whom any coach would be ideal. We always think they're bad. Only after victories they become the best. It's the same like with the fans - before a coach wins something, he is...

It was a pleasure to work with all the coaches, they treated us well. All the years in the NT were great for me.

How did the Lithuanian fans change in 10 years?

I experienced that people got even crazier about the NT and basketball. When I started to play for the NT, I didn't realise it is observed in such a way. Now I know what goes on in Lithuania during NT tournaments. This greatly pumps us up and inspires. We want to give those people something.

Some weeks ago, you played in Vilnius Siemens arena for the first time. What's the feeling, playing in such an arena in Lithuania?

Great. Many people... The last time I experienced something like that was in Maccabi years.

The fact that you were applauded the most by the audience - does it mean anything to you?

I don't know. Didn't even notice that I was applauded the most. I've always liked playing for the NT, and my relations with the fans are good.

This year, the coaches and managers of the NT changed. Did a real revolution happen?

Not really. I don't know where one could look for a so-called "revolution". Yes, there were medical checks on players' health, we live in single rooms in better hotels - but other than that, I can't really see any differences.

What about a revolotion from the basketball point of view?

As I mentioned, now we use a taller five. The coach always wants to have two tall players on the court. To my opinion, we'll have problems in the offence as long as we don't find a good light 4 (PF). Someone like Saulius Štombergas or Mindaugas Žukauskas in the past, whose primary position was at 3 (SF).

It's time to find a man to play Štombergas' or Žukauskas' role among our players. Now, we cannot attack in a swift way, sometimes I think we're too slow overall. Before, we played a kind of basketball, where people would penetrate, then pass the ball back. Now, only me and Šiškauskas can penetrate in this way. Other players are of different style. This doesn't mean they're bad players, simply our basketball is now different. Most of all, I'm longing for a light PF, who would bring in more aggression - because I think we have too little aggression.

Since we don't have another PG of a high level in the NT, you spend a lot of time on court. Is it hard?

No. I ask the coach to let me play as much as possible. Sireika used to give me lots of minutes in preparatory games - because we all knew I'd have to spend massive minutes on court, come the tournament. I'd like to get my organism get to those loads.

I'm trying to manage that load now. Acropolis Tournament was ideal in this respect - three days of games in a row, just like in Eurobasket. This stage of preparation is very important to me - in the NBA, I weaned from the game somewhat, I wasn't getting big loads, so I need to reach good form.

Why can't Lithuania find new high-quality PGs for such a long time? Everyone is looking for a "new Šaras".

There is not PG school in Lithuania. I don't know how I managed to become a PG - I didn't have anyone to look up when growing up. All the guard-stars were number two's - Rimas Kurtinaitis, Šarūnas Marčiulionis, Valdemaras Chomičius. Even if they played point often, they were not really PGs. I hope nowadays our young players can look to some foreign PGs and learn. Actually, our basketball school has improved, and more attention is being given to PG position.

Have you watched the DVD "Lithuanian basketball" with the historical victories?

I used to take a watch when I played in Europe.

Do you get inspiration, when you remember victories?

Incredible inspiration. I never had a goal to earn a lot of money. The important thing for me is that people would remember me. This is what happens when you attain victories. We made some noise in the Olympics, we reached gold in Sweden. Those victories, attained with the Lithuanian NT, are the most important to me.

In Israel, there was a film created about you - "Šaras of the Nation" (sorry if the translation is not entirely correct - Marius123). Did it contain pieces where you would melt down and cry?

Yes. When mama came to me in Moscow and hugged me. I cried when watching that episode. (In that episode of the film, Š. Jasikevičius is telling what a fantastic handball player his mother used to be. During the Final-4 in Moscow, they are standing, holding each other in their arms. Šaras says: "This is my dear mom" - and kisses her into a cheek. When film-makers ask Rita Jasikevičienė to tell something about her son, she smiles and says: "A very good boy".)

Only in that episode?

No, really. Overall, I'm one of those whimperers. I can weep when watching movies, I melt down easily. There were more scenes in that movie when I was on the brink of tears. You know, watching a movie about yourself... It's all so beautiful.

Which is your real face: the one who is nervous and mad about referees and journalists, or the sincere smiling one when meeting your friends?

I'm an "up and down" person. Emotional. I'm not one of those who can restrain emotions. I try, but my character is not like this. It would be foolish to behave in another way, I'd be acting and not being myself.

What question do you hear from journalists the most often?

I don't know. However, the Lithuanian press is getting more and more yellow. They're looking for sensations, they can write about anything. Before, things were different. When I came to the NT, there was one or two "issue" in those 5-6 years - but it was not intentional, journalists simply misunderstood something. Now, they create everything in advance and publish it.

What's the most absurd rumour about you?

In Israel, they used to write all kind of nonsense about private life. About everything.

They were trying to find you a girlfriend, taking your photos in clubs?

Yes. Like the thing which is happening with Simas Jasaitis in Lithuania now. He'd just sit in a restaurant - an article comes about his rampage there. Where was that rampage? He might just have a free morning tomorrow and afford to take a couple of beers, or three or four beers. Now we have times when sensations are more important than relations with a person.

What gets you the most angry in basketball?

Lack of devotion to work.

Of others?

Of anyone. When you come to a training and don't give your all. There are days when you haven't slept well, are in a bad mood, had a quarrel with the wife or the like. I'm very angry when you lose and don't care about it. Yes, such situations arise. Casual relation to work is what get me the most mad.

If you didn't play basketball, what kind of fan would you be? Maybe you wouldn't watch basketball at all?

I would. I watch absolutely all the matches which are on TV. If they show a youth tournament - I watch it, if they show women's tournament - I watch it too. I'm not even speaking of the highest-level competitions. The way I'm watching depends on the circumstances. If it's among a company, where people react hotly - I'm more restrained. If I'm alone - I can curse quite strongly.

You curse the players?

Yes. Under my nose.

Do you understand why the fans are sometimes angry about you, the players?

Fans are fans. They suffer too.

Tell the fans who dresses the best in the NT.

Me! (laughs)

R. Javtokas is also intrested in fashion. Do your tastes concur?

Javtokas is dressing OK, that's true.

Why is the nickname of Kaukėnas "Mažas" (Small one)?

He just looks so small, take a look at him (laughs). When he runs circles around people on the court, he looks tiny. You come closer to him and see - oh, he's quite tall.

Why do you call Songaila - "Sonko" ?

The French NT used to have a PG - Moustapha Sonko. We'd tell Songaila - "you'll be our Sonko".

How long will you continue to play basketball?

I don't know. It's the only thing I know how to do. Maybe there are other things where I'd be good, but I haven't tried anything else yet. All my life is basketball. I can't imagine the moment when my basketball career will come to an end. Can't imagine that.

Two years ago, when you decided to pass a Eurobasket, you told that you couldn't live without painkillers. Are your legs hurting still? Do you need medicaments?

No. After that Final-4 in Moscow, I had reached the limit. I didn't move and touch a basketball for three months - never before had that happened. I just took some light jogging, played some tennis from time to time. The summer was hard. Now I don't need medicaments.

You don't regret coming back to the NT?

No. Although, when after a game with Spain, when we need to travel all night, and I see how Robertas Javtokas, having played a game and not able to sleep all night, is suffering those 3 hours in economy class, not able to stretch his legs... Such episodes don't bring optimism. But, of course, I don't regret. I want to play for the NT very much, I want to win a ticket to the Olympics, I want to win something. I've been longing for the NT very much.

Before the golden Eurobasket-2003, you phoned your mom and told her you felt you could win it all.

I think I told her after 1 or 2 matches that we'll be champions. I saw how other teams were playing, I felt what game we can show and that we have a good chance of becoming champions.

What would you tell your mom now?

I'd tell we're very far from a good form. But that's only logical. Many of us came after missing some years in the NT, we have new coaches, new system.

Are you unquiet?

Yes. But you're always unquiet when you don't know how well you'll do. Things can turn out like in France - everything was smooth, then you lose one game and it's over. Therefore, such championships are always very hard.

I'm uneasy also, because we lack aggressiveness, we can't tear down opponents' defences - which was always our main characteristic before. We would penetrate, pass back to a free player, who would penetrate again, another pass - and someone eventually would have a free shot. We used to have very good fast offence, but now we're not doing that. But there's still time, and the tournament is long. The NT has plenty of high-caliber players, we just need to coordinate everything.

Would it be a big tragedy if Lithuanian misses Beijing olympics?

It'll be so hard to get into the olympic games that it's terrible. The new order is some kind of nonsense. If some country like Iran is already guaranteed a spot - it's terrible... While only 2 or 3 teams from Europe will get direct tickets after the Eurobasket. One has to show very goods results. Nothing we can do - we have to follow the rules and fight.

I think it boiled down to the fact that Ramas was to embarassed to ask for a 150% salary increase thus leaving PAO without hesitation. I'm sure that if he had asked PAO for a pay increase (from 1,1 mil euros) he would have at most got about 1,8-2 mil at max. and if that. There was no way he was to get more in fear of ruining the clubs pay stracture with Diamantidis on 1,7-1,9-2,1 over the next 3 years. He never would have got the 2,5 mil which is rumoured that he is being paid at CSKA.

He may have said some silly things but I don't really care about that. He honoured the PAO shirt while he wore it giving 110% each game. We won everything with him and he was a massive reason it all happend.

Sign Saras and immediately loan out Teodosic 4 the remainder of the season.If possible loan him 2 a team that will end its season before the start of the greek playoffs.Thus we may have a choice before the playoffs start 2 pick between Blakney and Teodosic(if he has progressed enough during the season).
Replace Blakney with Teodosic in the next summer.This way Teodosic will gain experience from the best and will have more chances of fulfilling his potential.

Bell has vast Euroleague experience and he's unable to come to terms with the Bucks (both Financially and role definition). Olympiacos is offering him major $$$, so I can definitely see him playing there next season.

No the problem with Bell for Bucks aren't the money, but the years of the contract. Bell wants 5 years contract with Bucks, but Bucks give him only 2 years contract. That's why I give 60% for Oly to sign him and 40% for Bucks.

Btw about Saras and Bell in the same team. Well Seibutis was injured and he will stay 2 months out. So it's possible we will loan him to another Greek team ( like Maroussi for example ), so we will have an opened position for Saras.
