Daniel Santiago has announced he will retire from the NT, declaring he wishes to focus on other aspects of his career.
According to acb.com he will not play in the Tuto Marchand Cup nor in the Americas Championship. Is this true?
Anyway, a good and consistent player as he is will surely be missed by the PR NT.

It was also reported by the site of FIBA.
yes, its true. he retired from the NT. Speculations are that he did not wanted to play for Coach Cintron because they had some issues some years ago. But who knows? People are really mad at him mainly because he waited until now to announce his retirement, and the way he did it which was through the media and not through the NT.
well, little chance we had to get into the olympics goes down the drain now :)

Hopefully someone takes this opportunity and stands up for PR in his place.

Like I said on the other thread, there is a drop-off in talent without him. PJ Ramos is a stiff. He has the size but he is not a low post scoring threat like Santiago. For all that size, he is not a great shot blocker or rebounder.
Puerto Rico might be better off with Angelo Reyes who is shorter but a better all around big man.
If the problem is with Cintron, then that is a really petty reason for not playing. He needs to get over it.

As I mentioned about Ramos, the guy played 31 minutes last night and only got 4 rebounds. You have to almost run away from the ball to have so few at 7-3. From effort alone, forget skill, he should get at least 10 a game. At least Manolo Cintron called him out on it.
