The first regional championships have begun. Afrobasket, held this year in Luanda, the largest city and the capital of Angola features 16 teams - Angola, Cameroon, Cape Verde Island, Central African Republic, Congo, Egypt, Ivory Coast, Liberia, Mali, Morocco, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, and Tunisia.

The main question, as with most African tournaments in recent memory is Can Angola be beat? and not just that, can they be defeated when the tournament is being held in Luanda? Olumide Oyedeji believes that many African teams can defeat the perennial African champions, but most teams on this continent lack Angola's dedication. [article (http://www.fiba.com/pages/eng/fc/news/lateNews/p/newsid/21252/arti.html)]

If Angola's first game was any indication, it's going to be a difficult task to unseat the defending champions. Angola defeated Afrobasket first-timers Rwanda 109-66. Angola was led by Olimpio Cipriano's 17 points. Joaquim Gomes added 15 points and Eduardo Mingas posted 14.

Elhadji Ndoye scored 15 points for Senegal helping to defeat Mali last night in their opening Afrobasket game played in Angola. Senegal, the defending Afrobasket silver medalists, will play Egypt next.

is it true that Algeria decided not to play because of a bad performance in a previous tournament? That is totally crazy.

Can we get a list of the best players from each team?

Egypt vs Cap verde 3/4

Semi finals games:
Cameroon vs Egypt 58-52
Angola vs Cap Verde 93-60.

My personnel own :
I think this year African champ sux.Only Angola play well, Egypt,Nigeria,Senegal aren't in shape this year,nd the absence of Algerie made this champ very low in performance.

Angola show again that their are the strongest team in africa not because they have the best players but because they are well organized and more professional.

Cameron, RCA and Ivory Coast show that they have the potential to stop Angola domination in Africa...they only need improve a litle bit more their game.

Cape Verde play like Angola 15 years a go...same style of players and same philosophy of game, I belive that in near future they will became a very strong team.

Nigeria, Senegal and Mali the same old sheet...great players (the best in continent) but no team. Its a shame.

Tunisia and Egypt they know to play but their game are not agressive enough.

Zlim,Can u give us ur opinion about the level of Afrobasket 2007 ??
Why we saw a team like Senegal made 31 turnovers in a game ?? the same for egypt,Nigeria ... ??
I think it was easy for Angola to win Afrobasket 2007,the real surprise was in many new african teams win historical teams like when Mali ,Cameroon and Cap verde won Egypt.
Note:Cameroon isn't in the Fiba World Ranking and they finished second.
Great job by Cameroon.

I don´t think that the level of this year was so bad...it's truth that this champ was the yeasyest to win for Angola, but this was in my opinion because Nigeria and Senegal not played the semifinals.

Cameron have a strong team and if they only apear this year its only because organizations insues, they have a lot of good players in Europe and America and will be not easy for Lebanon beat theam in olimpics qualifying tournament.

The same for Cape Verde because I belive that with the possibility of participation in olimpics games others players of diapora will accept play for Cape Verde and they will became strongest.

Regarding Senegal and Nigeria I start think that are a lost case, they are so arrongant only because their names that they think they don´t to work...and in the end angola win.
