Welcome to the Official Andrew Bogut Thread 2007-08 NBA Season. To all those Andrew Bogut fans or Australian basketball fans here is the official thread to post stories, comments and other related material associated with this fine basketball player who always leads by example on and off the court.

We all hope that this Australian "Bogey Man" will continue to live up to the Milwaukee Bucks and Australia´s expectation as a former NBA Draft number 1 pick as he enters his third season as the Bucks´starting centre.

In the offseason, though the young fellow did not represent his beloved Australia in the 2007 FIBA-Oceania Men´s Championships against New Zealand´s "Tall Blacks", Bogut continued to enhance his game, strength and conditioning while in Australia to prepare himself for another grueling 82 NBA games. He has put on more weight as well as some added muscle to take on the likes of some of the NBA´s centres and bigmen such as Tim "Big Fundamental" Duncan or the Larger than Life: Dwight "D-12" Howard.

From all the dedicated fans of the "Bogey Man" from around the world (including Uruguay) we all hope that this Larger than Life Australian will be at the top of his game once again in helping the Bucks to the promised land.

It's just sad that he's "not living up to the expectations" now. He turns out to be nothing less than an average NBA player.

Don't be so quick to be negative, Protoss. Give him a few more games to find his ritmo and he'll be right back. Even with his mediocre statistics, he's one of the better big men in the East.

Man, he is one ugly son of a gun with that "bald bull" look!! (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/photo?slug=getty-76075748jd013_memphis_grizz&prov=getty)

Andrew had 16 points, 14 rebounds, 2 assists, and 2 blocks against the Mavericks. He's playing pretty well this year, especially on the defensive end. His blocks per game have increased from 0.5 in 06-07 to 2.1 this season.

Watching the BUCKS and MAVERICKS game, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. >_<

give it time. Bogut is playing fine but needs to develop some consistency- he is basically a more athletic, defensive minded Vlade Divac. I think he will eventually be one of the better defenders in the NBA and a perfect foil for Yi. As Bogut, Yi and Villanueva develop together, the Bucks will become a force in the east i dont doubt it.

Bogut is going to be a solid player for years to come. He's the kind of guy who can give 4 quarters of hard-nosed defense, plus good offense around the bucket.

He had 18 points (7-12), 11 rebounds, and 4 blocks (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/boxscore?gid=2007112801) in a loss to Atlanta last night.

Just wrote a short summary about Bogut in my weekly update:

Andrew Who Again?
Has there been any #1 draft pick in the last ten years that has flew under-the-radar as Andrew Bogut (http://www.interbasket.net/players/bogut.htm) has thus far? In his third season, the 7-0 center from Australia is having another decent season by putting up 12.6 points, 8.6 rebounds and 2.3 blocks, but I really haven’t heard anything about him; there just isn’t much discussion of Bogut. Has he shown any potential to eventually become worth a #1 pick overall?

What I am saying is personally, I haven’t heard anything about Bogut, and for being a #1 overall pick, that’s a little odd to me. We’re still tracking the progress of Andrea Bargnani (http://www.interbasket.net/players/bargnani.htm). Everyone knows all about LeBron James (http://www.interbasket.net/players/usa/lebron.htm)and Yao (http://www.interbasket.net/players/yaoming.htm) Ming. We’re still talking about Allen Iverson and Tim Duncan. Greg Oden hasn’t put on an NBA jersey and we’re still talking about him. We know that Olowakandi and Kwame Brown were complete busts; that’s been discussed and proven. So what of Andrew Bogut?

Is it because he is playing in Milwaukee and no one cares outside of brewtown? I mean, I feel Yi Jianlian (http://www.interbasket.net/players/yi.htm) will consistently get more press. The question is, what can we expect from the Australian center? The #1 pick of 2005 hasn’t really had the chance to become the focus point because of the Milwaukee’s perimeter-orientated offense with great guards Mo Williams and Michael Redd.

I wonder whether it’s because Bogut hasn’t asserted himself enough. The brash, confident, and dominant college player that we saw at Utah has yet to surface. Is he still learning the NBA game? Can anyone in or outside of Milwaukee let me in on what’s going on?

Is there any other Andrew Bogut fan out there who is disappointed so far with the production of the Big Man from Down Under?

The Bucks aren't winning and the Big Man is continuously putting up inconsistent numbers (some nights you see the 15 points 11 boards 7/14 FG such as the game against the Bulls and other times you see the 5 points 6 boards) and his free throw are hitting the Shaq type percentages.

What is going on here with the Wonder from Down Under?
What could be done with this Australian-Croatian Sensation?
Should he be shifted to power forward like during his rookie year, while Yi goes to the 3 spot and the Bucks trade Villanueva for a quality veteran centre?

Bogut is having a consistent January month with 17 ppg + 9.8 rpg + 3 apg in 7 games so far. Last night he scored 29 pts and grabbed 11 rebs, but couldn't avoid a defeat to the Suns. Let's hope he'll keep up those numbers.

When he was playing on national TV the other night, and Jeff an Gundy said that the new coach is encouraging Bogut to be more aggressive offensively.

Hopefully, Bogut is able to continue to be CONSISTENT like what he is doing in January. I just hate to see such potential go to waste. He did not play in the 2007 FIBA Oceania Championships with the Boomers hence, he had plenty of rest for the season. As a result, I am expecting more than just 12ppg 8rpg rather 16ppg and 10rpg.

NBA: Bucks turn to Bogut

Now in his third season, the former Ute has become a leader in Milwaukee

By Steve Luhm
The Salt Lake Tribune
Article Last Updated: 01/13/2008 03:28:54 AM MST

Andrew Bogut is no longer a prized No. 1 draft pick - a seven-foot center loaded with potential who the Milwaukee Bucks hope will someday lead them back to the top of the Eastern Conference.
It's Bogut time in Milwaukee.
The Bucks dearly need him.
"Andrew has been one of our catalysts - one of our renewed spirits," Milwaukee coach Larry Krystkowiak said. "He is a leader. He's not a team captain, but he is very much a team leader. . . . For us to be successful, we've got to have him be successful."
At the University of Utah, Bogut was wildly successful.
Arriving from Australia, he survived a frustrating freshman season under Rick Majerus.
As a sophomore, he led coach Ray Giacoletti's Utes to the Sweet 16, when he was the consensus Player of the Year in 2004-05.
Bogut returns to his adopted hometown Monday night, when Milwaukee plays the Jazz.
"It's amazing to me," Bogut said. "The state of Utah and the university are much like Australia. When you come back, it's like you've never been gone. . . . It's so humbling to have the people here still supporting you and following you. I always love to come back to Utah."
Bogut and the Bucks arrive in need of a winning streak, having lost 19 of their past 27 after Saturday's loss at Phoenix.
"We just
Advertisement

keep trying to get better," Krystkowiak said. "Because of the nature of the East, we're only a couple of games out of the playoffs and the schedule turns in our favor a little bit."
Like Bogut, Krystkowiak has Utah connections. He played one of his nine NBA seasons - 1992-93 - with the Jazz. His biggest win during two years as the head coach at Montana came over favored Nevada in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament at the Huntsman Center.
Krystkowiak also talked to University of Utah athletic director Chris Hill about the Utes' vacant coaching job last spring, just before being promoted by the Bucks.
Asked about his first 36 games as NBA coach, Krystkowiak said, "It's got a few ups and downs, that's for sure. When things aren't going well and you're losing close games, it's a very frustrating deal."
The worst moment?
On New Year's Eve, Milwaukee lost at Detroit, 114-69. It was the third-worst defeat in franchise history.
After the game, Bogut didn't call out any teammates, but he suggested the Bucks played "scared" against an opponent they viewed as "king of the mountain."
"We finally realized we had to win some games to save the season," Bogut said. "We realized it was going to be an ugly year if we didn't start playing better."
After Washington handed the Bucks a 101-77 loss last week, Bogut stepped forward again. With a night to kill in Philadelphia, he took his teammates bowling, and Milwaukee won its next two games.
"I just started thinking we've got to get guys into an environment where we aren't talking about basketball, aren't thinking about the job, aren't watching film - away from everything," Bogut said. "We spend so much time together - at practice, on planes, on busses - it was nice to get out and do something a little different."
Bogut said he likes being considered one of "three or four" leaders of the young Bucks. He also enjoys playing for Krystkowiak, who is learning on the job, much like Bogut did during his first two seasons.
"He's been great," said Bogut. "Coach played in the league. He knows what we're going through. . . . He doesn't take any crap - what you see is what you get. And that's good in this business."

Well, hopefully this is the beginning of a much brighter future for the Bucks and the Aussie!!!

Saski, I think I might get on the Bogut Bandwagon. He scored 23 points (9-12) and 10 rebounds in a loss last night to Utah. He had an amazing one-handed monster jam over Carlos Boozer that I saw on SportsCenter. When I find a clip on Youtube, I'll post it. :)

Bogut's last few games have been awesome with a 21 points 10 boards and 4 blocks win over the Hawks, before that a HUGE 23 points 10 boards against Carlos BOOOOOOOZER which also include a HUGE SLAM in Boooooozer's face. And finally a 29 points (14 out of 16 from the field) 11 boards in only 37 mins of play.

The Bucks' coach was right in saying for the "Bogey Man" to be aggressive.

This is how Bogut's huge built in maximised is by having him be the focal point of the offense and to have the Bucks offense start from the inside and then to the outside.

During his rookie year in the University of Utah he was the 2nd option because the coach had his shooting guard be the first option in the offense. That year the Utes did not get anywhere and only a first round exit in the national tournament to Boston College while Bogut only had a average season 13ppg 8rpg. HOWEVER, the following season when Bogut was the focal point not only did he dominate the NCAA on an individual basis but his team were conference champions AND made the Sweet 16.

This is what it's all about ... Bogut as the focal point for him to be effective.

I'm a big, big fan of Tim Duncan, but it's great to see some of these younger big men play well. Since you watched the game, I'll ask you what you think of Bogut's speed. Bogut's Bad Night:

Bogut Admits Off-Center Game (http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=726613) -- March 10, 2008, Milwaukee Journal-Sentinal, by TOM ENLUND

...How is it that Bogut, who is averaging 13.5 points and 9.2 rebounds - both career highs, can finish with one point and two rebounds in a game? Granted, everyone is going to have bad games, but Bogut admitted after practice Monday that it went beyond that.

"From a team perspective, it was just a game where we came out flat and like most (of those) games, the result was pretty much defined at halftime," Bogut said. "I struggled offensively. I really didn't get involved in the game at all. I was flat energy-wise and something I need to do is play through that, knowing that I'm going to have games like that offensively. That's something I didn't do, and I need to be held accountable for it, definitely."

...Bogut, who averages 11.2 shots per game, took four Sunday. He did tie his season high with seven assists in the 27 minutes he played. He did not play in the fourth quarter....

he is not a slow player i saw. only that he touches the ball lesser that he suppose to, bypassing his ability to score and thus slowing his development as an offensive player.

You're right, Saski. This year he's proved why he was the number one draft pick. He's worthy of it and playing like an All-Star in the East (the other All-Star centers being Nesterovic and Ilgauskas...tough call between them). Bogut is one of the only players that Milwaukee needs to keep. The rest of them, well, I would trade 'em while they still have value (although I'm on the fence about Redd).
