if he will be a top 1 to 3 pick, he will get P175000/month in his first year, then P250000/month in his second year, and then P375000 in his third year.

isn't the max salary set at Php 350,000.00/month?

Lutz is a part time starter for gilas depends on who they face. he has playing time. and if he didnt withdraw, the salary he'll get in pba will be a rookie contract and its 150k a month compare to the offer of gilas 250k a month.

As mentioned 175K is the starting salary and as per Tiago it has a mark-up each year so it compensates for it if he's targeting the Gilas offer of 250K (Assuming he's getting such)

Also, lost in all this is the fact that if he pulls out from the Draft, a player should re-apply again in the following year or next-- meaning after getting 250K from Gilas, he's going back to 175 when he enters (unless they change the salary scale for rookies)

Long-term, if you are thinking about finances the first priority really is the PBA since contracts secure your future.

i still don't get it...getting drafted in the pba shouldn't be a problem if the player really wants to play in the national team then he should be allowed as long as it doesn't interfere with the pba season. dba nga the reason they changed the format of the pba season is to accomodate the usual schedules of the major international tournaments? usa, spain, argentina, china, germany, serbia...you know, the world powerhouses...do not have a fixed national team that exclusively play together. ok maybe they did when they were younger but the gilas program has been existing for 3 years...that is more than enough time for them to gel and learn international play. so what's the fuss...why should a player either choose the pba or gilas? can't he play for the pba as a "day-job" then play for the national team when called upon? if the reason is that the pba board won't allow it then why not, eh they have been allowing it for the past 30 years na and even fixed the calendar to supposedly accomodate it.

ah ok. i thought it is still the max salary of the PBA players. so inspite of the economic crisis, the PBA did manage to increase the player's salary. in contradiction, the NBA is forcing their players now to cut their present salaries as team owners are saying that they are losing money every year.

well, it is only in the Philippines that team owners do not allow players to play internationally. i couldn't imagine NBA teams and european soccer clubs not allowing their players to play in the fiba worlds or especially the world cup. it isn't like they will play every month or even every year...just in the major international tourneys like the asian games, fiba qualifiers, olympics and fiba worlds (if ever) what do you mean by here we go again?

The topic has been beaten to death black and blue twice-thrice over. Rinse. Repeat.

Anyway, just to go with your comparison. We can do what the NBA is doing-- release the players just in time for any major tourneys. The rest of the way, they play with their mother ball clubs. BUT as you might have noticed, that did not work for us the last few years (decades!) so SBP's plan was to have a team which they can train LONG-TERM. Thus, Gilas was born. Then again, we realized (SBP and Toroman) that it's not quite working. Thus, Gilas + Some was born.

So for the first time in years we'd have a hybrid team of a LONG-TERM POOL + LOANED PLAYERS (1 month practice!).

Can't recall if the PBA Board has amended its rules in terms of the salary cap. I doubt if it has been increased already, as this would have been extensively discussed already in this forum.

The salary cap remains to be at P350k max per month. For rookies, it remains to be P150k, with a 50% escalation on the 2nd year (P225k) and another 50% increase on the 3rd year (P337.5k). There's also an unwritten policy among the Board members that players can only be given 3-year contracts maximum. Hence, if a rookie wants to earn the P350k max, he can wait on his 4th season before getting this.

Nonetheless, I may also be wrong although it would be nice to see an article that tells us that the cap has been increased already...

PBA BOARD to raise max salary of a DRAFT PICK on nxt Board meeting Aug 23. Current limit is 150K/month. What's the ideal? 200K? 215K?

Aug. 23? so I guess this is for next season. The battle for the young guns has begun. So, the PBA fanboys who used to annihilate the "gilas boys" are also the ones who want them to suit up for their fave PBA team.

is this just a coinsidence or the PBA is making counter moves so the Gilas players will not back out in the PBA Draft?

Interesting development indeed...although I'm not really happy with this. Instead of helping out the national team maintain its program up to 2013, the PBA has waged a price war against the SBP with this proposed increase. I'm almost sure MVP and his two teams will vote against this increase but there's no way he will win this if what's needed is just the majority vote, and not absolute majority. The SMC bloc will have 3 votes, plus the 2 of Bert Lina so it's almost a guarantee that the increase will be approved.

Here's the funny part - there was no mention of the increase in the pay among veterans. The salary cap for the veteran players seems to have remained at 350k, which means that the league will only increase the salary of the rookies joining next season. You know where the motive of this move is focused then.

It's sad...personally I would still have wanted to see the nucleus retained with the national team. These would include Casio, Tiu, Barroca, Lassiter, Lutz, Aguilar, among others. Perhaps, Ballesteros and Ababou may have to be given up as they can't get the minutes from Toroman. But it's not a good sight to see the PBA actually going head-on against the SBP.

KevinDurant
08-17-2011, 10:06 AM
Good thing the SBP has MVP as its backer. I think only the SMC group can match them money for money. I don't think other PBA ball clubs would want an increase as the economy is not that good. But if they want war, I am sure SBP would not back down. The program is at its critical point right now, and the SBP should act on this, so that the seeds they planted won't go into waste. Problem Jay is that even if there is a salary cap ..... what is the punitive action by the PBA if a team goes over. San Miguel teams has long been over the PBA Cap .... now include Talk N Text. Just look at the "very old" line-up of Ginebra which still includes Willie Miller at that time, how many of their players receive the 350 Max .... Miller, Caguiao, Menk, Helterbrand, Cortez, De Ocampo, Mamaril, Hatfield then am not sure about Tubid and Villanueva.

We have no 'luxury tax" that is imposed just like in the NBA. If they did, the PBA will surely have an abundance of funds by this time.

Even the conservative Alaska management in the past unknowingly revealed that there even exist side contracts on top of the uniform PBA contracts.

with drought from the past drafts
the teams are surely desperate enough to
give this kind of offers to the rookies

i had just notice that almost all of the players in the pba are above 25+
its very rare to see players who are young and competitive enough in the pba.

from bmeg ,ginebra, talk n text etch
almost all of the players are now old.
maybe its time now for a big reshuffle on their line up.

Powerade to pick Tiu No. 1

MANILA, Philippines — Chris Tiu has yet to declare himself eligible for the draft but the swift and smart Gilas guard is already being eyed by Powerade as its No. 1 overall pick in the PBA Rookie Draft slated Aug. 28.

The PBA deadline for submission of requirements for the draft is Thursday but Tiu was reportedly still undecided.

But the other high caliber Gilas member rumored to join the draft, JV Casio, has reportedly decided on leaving the national team, a source at the PBA said Wednesday.

“His application papers are with his manager but we have not received it yet," the source who requested not to be identified, said.

Whether Tiu will turn pro or not, Powerade Tigers Gerard Francisco said the only thing definite for them is that they won’t give away their No. 1 pick.

“We’ll definitely keep it. It’s the first time for the franchise to pick first, so we’re excited about it,” Francisco said.

Aside from the top pick, Powerade also owns the No. 4 pick, which the team obtained via a trade with Rain or Shine. The Tigers shipped Larry Rodriguez to the Painters in exchange for Eddie Laure and a first round pick in this year’s Draft.

Francisco said the Tigers are still undecided on who to select for the fourth pick.

The 5-foot-11 Tiu, 26, is torn between turning pro or staying with the Smart-Gilas program, where he is under contract until Sept. 30.

On the other hand, four of their teammates – Mark Barroca, Mac Baracael, Marcio Lassiter and Chris Lutz – have already submitted their documents for Draft applications although they can still pull out of list if they decide to stay with the national team.

Smart-Gilas will compete in the FIBA-Asia Championship in Wuhan, China starting Sept. 15, the qualifying tournament for the 2012 London Olympics.

Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas president and Smart-Gilas benefactor Manny V. Pangilinan recently said that he will continue to support the national team program through 2013, the year when the FIBA-Asia qualifier for the 2014 World Championship will be held.

Negotiations for contract extension between the six Gilas players and Smart Sports executive Pato Gregorio and Smart-Gilas team manager Frankie Lim are expected to commence soon.

well, we all know that skills-wise tiu is nowhere near the caliber of a top pick but the pba is not just about talent, it actually is more on marketing and with tiu powerade will grab a lot more fans. they still have the 4th pick though wherein they could still choose ballesteros to bolster their more pressing frontcourt need. it seems that the gilas boys are all set to join the pba...

Biggest worry now is Ranidel, Kelly and Jimmy's state of heath. What more with their state of mind including Chot's leading to the most important battle our national quintet is heading to. I do agree about Lutz. Aside from "GShock" and Aguilar's progress esp on the defensive end, Lutz was one of our more consistent and bright performers in the last Jones Cup. I still believe that him and Lassiter will be more productive if they play on their more natural og positions.

:D I know that's why they should have trained him and fast tracked his development as a pg right from the very start because by continuously having him lord more minutes on the 2 spot, we've lost our supposed to be advantage in the guard positions...instead our supposed to be scorers have become defensive minded and have to adjust to pos 3 just to have some share of the playing time. the gilas boys should just enter the pba if they want real everyday competition...the gilas team has so far only participated in exhbition tourneys in 3 years. the one tourney they are preparing for, we arguably have no shot at winning. a 2 year extension means 2 more years of just practice and exhibition games...how much more can they learn? i mean, aren't they already too old for just training?

i really don't expect all of them to stay in the draft....max of 3 lang (ababou, ballesteros and either baracael or barroca)...casio, lutz and lassiter will be back in gilas...

Does this mean all of them (Casio, Lutz, Lassiter) will be receiving 250 max salary? Do you think its wise for the SBP management to offer ALL OF them that contract? Do you believe they deserve it?

It goes for three years as well, do you think the players would prefer a shorter 2-year contract over the rookie scale 3-year contract in the PBA?

my point of view!

Going to the PBA is a very practical decision in your basketball career...after all you served the PHI National Team then think your future as will...you get the maximum rookie pay and the next 2 years u get the maximum pay...u also have built a career in the league...

best example...

Danny Ildefonso - Romel Adducul - if you have a basketball IQ gets!:p:p:p

well, he hasn't won anything anywhere...pbl, pba-dl, ncaa, ncraa...i don't remember him winning a title as a coach. plus arellano is supposed to be a contender this year with celada, acidre, lapuz...but they are at the bottom just 2 games ahead of lowly perpetual. he hasn't even taken them to the final 4 even with a strong lineup...especially when gio ciriacruz played there and had an mvp caliber year. speaking of, i wonder why ciriacruz isn't being looked at by pba teams...maybe another conference in the pba-dl.

-Though, Powerade is saying that they will not trade their #1 pick, various sources are saying that they are exploring the said option. team is looking for a big man who can replace the aging Dennis Espino Is this the reason of DH why he is not joining smart gilas in wuhan. Coz he is returning to SMB team which is the bitter rivals of MVP's group? :(

The first one is probable since Petron doesn't have a legitimate 2 guard after the Governor's Cup. Both Alex and Denok play point guard.

One of the reasons how SBP could have done better-- did they believe that players will just play without a contract? The best they could have done is offer a short-term contract just for Wuhan?

short term contracts are somehow irrelevant for dondon at this stage of his career as in his age(34) injuries has been and would be an issue to a guy who rely to his shooting, slashing and perimeter defense..\

so if SBP/MVP would not assure dondon long term contract this will happen eventually

You have a point. So, it was a dangerous proposition from the start (they should have known that August was when the contract expired).. Either they "extended" it a bit (agreements could have been done) or they are forced to offer him a longer contract (which of course, is what the "old guy" prefers now.)

The question is, was there an offer from MVP? i can understand both sides too. MVP not wanting to shell out a big, long contract and Hontiveros not wanting the opposite.

Dondon is a high character guy...but he also still needs to feed his family so we can't second guess his intentions in begging off playing in wuhan. anyway, i don't think the gilas players have their hearts with gilas anymore...we can't blame them though as i think they themselves know we will not win in wuhan. anyone who still believes otherwise has to wake up...if what iran did to us in the jones cup wasn't ominous i don't know what is. we haven't even played china and japan team A...

PBA will have imports with unlimited height next year. I'd say this is welcome news not only for the fans but for the players' development as well. This is a long time coming. The year 1990 saw the first pba team to compete in the Asian games where they finished second. Our players were overwhelmed by the sight of taller chinese. Playing against 6'5" and below imports made them stagnate. Next time i hope to see two strong foreign teams in the pba, like teams from turkey or australia.

Pumaren eyes free agents, top draftees for Shopinas

http://www.philstar.com/thedeanscorner/articlescontent.aspx?articleid=719923&publicationsubcategoryid=69

MANILA, Philippines - It will be a long rebuilding process for Shopinas, formerly Barako Bull, but Clickers coach Franz Pumaren said yesterday he’s optimistic the direction set by team governor Sheila Lina is the path to a bright future in the PBA.

“Rome wasn’t built in a day,” said Pumaren who signed a guaranteed three-year contract with Shopinas, an e-commerce marketing company owned by businessman Bert Lina. “We’re starting from scratch. We’ll try to get the best available talent in the draft on Sunday then we’ll invite free agents for tryouts. We’ll also look at players with whom we own the right of first refusal. There will be little time for us to form a team. We’ll probably get everyone together by the third week of September then the season begins on Oct. 2.”

What convinced Pumaren to take the job was Lina’s commitment to build a competitive team. “If Ms. Sheila weren’t sincere, she wouldn’t have offered a guaranteed three-year contract,” said Pumaren. “I think a lady governor in the PBA is pretty cool and exciting. It’s a breath of fresh air for the PBA. She honestly admitted she knows little about basketball so I’ll be given a free hand in running the team. I’m very honored by her trust and confidence. I’ll do my best to live up to her expectations.”

Pumaren, 48, said twice before, he was offered to become a head coach in the PBA but declined because it would’ve meant taking over from a close friend. “I’m not the type to undercut anyone,” he said. “I prayed that someday, the opportunity will come and the timing will be right. It took about a week to finalize my contract with Shopinas. For me, it’s not about the money. It’s more about recognition and respect. Ms Sheila gave me an offer that took into account my experience and accomplishments. She’s very supportive of our plans to rebuild.”

Pumaren said management isn’t in a rush to form a championship contender. “Of course, we want to be competitive right away but we also have to be patient,” he continued. “We want to play an exciting and fast-paced game. We’re looking for fresh legs and mobile players. We’re looking for players who can shoot the ball and score. Because we’re in the rebuilding process, we won’t prioritize getting role players. Complementary players will come later. At La Salle, we were known for our pressing defense. We’ll try to carry that over to the PBA but that’s not all we’ll do.”

Pumaren was La Salle head coach for 12 years, capturing six UAAP titles. He was also Mobiline playing assistant coach and assistant coach with Pop Cola and Sta. Lucia Realty. As a player, Pumaren saw action for San Miguel Beer and Mobiline for 12 seasons up to 1997, averaging 7.4 points in 531 games.

Pumaren said he’s now assembling his coaching staff. Expected to join his crew are his former La Salle assistants Tonichi Yturri and Jack Santiago. He has also invited two PBA assistant coaches from other teams to move to Shopinas.

“I’d like to bring in guys who are already familiar with my style and system but I’m also hoping to enlist a new guy, someone who can suggest new ideas,” said Pumaren. “This is an exciting challenge for us. Ms. Sheila is serious about building a competitive team. She wants continuity and won’t agree to shuffle players in and out.”

Pumaren said in Sunday’s draft, Shopinas has the fifth overall pick. “I’ve spoken with Jvee (Casio) about his teammates,” he said. “I think Jvee will be the first overall pick so I wanted to find out from him about the other Gilas players. I’m hoping by the time we choose, the player we want is still available. We’re looking at a scorer who can play the three position.”

Pumaren admitted that he’s considering to recruit his former La Salle star RenRen Ritualo, now an unrestricted free agent. Another former Archer standout in his radar is Don Allado whose B-Meg contract is expiring.

“While we’re looking for fresh legs, we’re open to signing up veterans for their experience,” he said. “I know other teams are looking at RenRen. The former Barako franchise has rights to several players like Ken Bono, Jojo Duncil, Paolo Hubalde, Marvin Cruz and Mark Andaya. So we’ll evaluate those players and make decisions after the draft.”

Pumaren disclosed that in yesterday’s PBA Board of Governors meeting, Shopinas asked for concessions such as three rookie direct hires, a protect 10 dispersal draft and a one-time draft of players from sister team Air 21 (now Barako Bull). “Technically, we are an existing franchise but effectively, we are an expansion team,” said Pumaren. “So we’re hoping the PBA allows certain concessions so that we can hasten our rebuilding process. I think it’s not only beneficial to our franchise but also to the league because we want to be competitive right in our first year.”

Pumaren revealed that the new Shopinas manager is Jovy Saddul and the team colors will be yellow, blue and red.

i hope the PBA gives the concessions. On condition that they won't sell players anymore :D

On a more serious note, i think with a face like Pumaren out there it gives an aura that the team is serious in rebuilding then contending. i hope it becomes a reality as a more competitive league is of course, better in the long run.

TWO-TIME Most Valuable Player Willie Miller could be making a quick return to the fold of the San Miguel Corp.

A top official of the SMC group yesterday told Malaya Business Insight they are close to sealing a deal with Barako Bull (formerly Air21) for the services of Miller.

The official, who requested anonymity, said the trade package has already been presented to Barako management and a deal should be struck within the next few days. The papers will then be submitted to Commissioner Chito Salud for final approval.

"Isang player at saka maybe ‘yung pick namin sa draft," the official said.

Petron owns the No. 8 pick in the draft set at Robinson’s Place-Manila this Sunday while Barako already has the rights on Nos. 3 and 10.

Miller, the only guard to have won the league’s highest individual award twice, was traded by Ginebra to the Express for KG Canaleta and a 2012 draft pick last month.

Instead of a return to the Kings, however, corporation management is thinking of inserting Miller into newly-crowned Governors Cup champion Petron Blaze.

"Willie’s experience is sure to help Petron’s backcourt," said the insider. "And since he’s a combo guard, he could either spell (Alex) Cabagnot or Denok (Miranda) at the point or he could play alongside either as the 2-guard."

The decision, he added, was arrived at after the Boosters beat the TNT Tropang Texters in Game 7 of their title series last Sunday.

"Miller can fill in the void to be created by the absence of (import) Anthony Grundy," he said. "Grundy was truly instrumental in the victory and nobody could fill in his shoes locally except Miller, who is a true combo guard himself."

Ginebra was forced to trade the 34-year-old since the 2002 and 2007 MVP could not get enough playing time in the backcourt-heavy Kings, who already have the likes of Jayjay Helterbrand, Mark Caguioa and Mike Cortez, aside from the up-and-coming Rob Labagala and John Wilson.

While initially i thought this was a bad pick-up, another poster (not in this forum) commented that acquiring another young guy (#8) pick would mean more "projects" like Guevarra and/or Baclao. i guess if you put it that way i think this move is tolerable-- as long as they plan to develop the mentioned young players.

That is, if Franz's bid for Macmac does not come into fruition. Current talk is he's willing to trade the fifth pick for Macmac.

Bringing in Renren is almost certain, and he's also setting his sights on Joseph Yeo. The rub with the Macmac-fifth pick deal is that BMEG is contesting that they still own the fifth pick (due to some "gentleman's" agreement in the past with the old Barako team). Worst case, the fifth pick might be given up for Allado, who'll join Renren and Yeo to form the new team's core.

Rumored Top 5 picks:

1. Casio
2. potential surprise of the draft - RoS is strongly considering Paul Lee

Believe it or not, Yeng Guiao picking Paul Lee won't be a surprise, at least for me. We all know that Lee is handled by former UE Coach Lawrence Chongson. And we all are aware that Chongson is aiming for Lee to be at least a Top 3 pick in the draft. Lee will not be able to achieve that had the top 3 picks come from either MVP or RSA teams.

And we all know that Chongson is a bonafide member of the BCAP, an organization that Guiao is actively involved alongside Chito Narvasa and Alfrancis Chua. Hence, Guiao picking Lee won't be a shocker - I'd even be more surprised if Guiao picks another person other than Lee in the draft. My best guess is that Guiao will try to transform Lee as his "Willie Miller at Red Bull" with ROS.

Ginebra, B-Meg coaching staff
facing revamp
BY NOLI CORTEZ

EXPECT some changes in the coaching staffs of Ginebra and B-Meg.

No less than San Miguel Corp. president and chief executive officer Ramon S. Ang bared this last Wednesday, adding the decision will be finalized within the coming week, well ahead of the PBA’s 37th season set to start on Oct. 2.

"Pag masama ang tayo, kailangan ang konting balasa," Ang explained in a chat with sportswriters during Petron Blaze’s victory party at the SMC main office.

While coach Ato Agustin’s job is secure after steering the Boosters to the PBA Governors Cup title, the same cannot be said of Ginebra’s Jong Uichico and B-Meg rookie coach Jorge Gallent.

Ang said Siot Tanquingcen, co-head coach with Uichico, will take the lead for the Kings while the subject of who will handle the Llamados will be decided on by the giant conglomerate’s basketball operations group headed by Robert Non.

Whoever will take over, Ang added, will come from within the SMC coaching fraternity and the man replaced will be relegated to assistant.

"Basta within the family lang din. Sila-sila lang ang magpapalitan diyan at walang mawawala. Mag-ro-rotate muna sila," he stated.

Ginebra’s 34-24 win-loss record for the season was highlighted by a runner-up finish in the mid-season Commissioner’s Cup. It wound up third in the Philippine Cup and fourth in the Governors Cup.

Gallent has won many titles in the amateur ranks but could not fully bring his winning ways with injury-wracked B-Meg.

The Llamados wound up fourth in the Philippine Cup, before falling to seventh in the Commissioner’s Cup, sixth in the Governors and a 20-24 slate for the season.

Those records disappointed Ang, but he did not say so out loud, merely stating: "Sa tingin ko kasi sa tatlong (SMC) teams (in the PBA), B-Meg ang pinaka-talented.";)

New faces catch attention in rookie camp

MANILA, Philippines - Julias Pascualado scored nine of his 11 points in the third quarter as Barako Bull-Red rallied to beat Rain or Shine-White, 76-72, in the PBA rookie camp at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City last Wednesday.

Pascualado’s solid game impressed Powerade coach Bo Perasol and Alaska assistant mentor Luigi Trillo.

“He has the skill. He could be an option,” said Perasol, whose team holds the No. 1 draft rights in Sunday’s Annual Draft at Robinsons Place Manila.

“He did well. He’ll be a darkhorse in the draft,” said Trillo of the 24-year old guard from Cebu City who grew up in the US.

Former UE Warrior guard Paul Lee, Allein Maliksi, Ariel Mepana and Reil Cervantes, who led Rain or Shine-White with 20 points, also made an impression.

Players of Smart-Gilas Pilipinas, however, failed to see action.

JV Casio, a potential No.1 pick, and teammates Mark Barroca, Dylan Ababou, Marcio Lassiter and Christopher Lutz showed up at the game facility with Serbian coach Rajko Toroman but didn’t join the scrimmage.

“We are here partly because we want to see them (Smart Gilas players) play,” said B-Meg coach Jorge Galent.

Except for Barroca, Gallent said the other Gilas players are still uncertain about joining the draft.

“Mark assured he’s joining (the draft),” Gallent said. Barroca was Gallent’s former player while coaching Harbour Centre in the now defunct Philippine Basketball League.

Players who intend to back out of the PBA Annual Draft have until today to notify the Office of the Commissioner.

After win, Petron wants to improve roster for next tilt

MANILA, Philippines — Petron Blaze coach Ato Agustin said their bid for PBA back-to-back championships hinges largely on whether they can get key players in the trade or during the Annual Rookie Draft on Sunday.

One of the players he is eyeing is former Petron (San Miguel Beer) star Dondon Hontiveros who he said can ably provide additional firepower to the team following injuries to several stars, including Jay Washington.

He added that Hontiveros can be of great help at the shooting guard spot, a position occupied by import Anthony Grundy during the Boosters’ championship campaign in the just-concluded Governors’ Cup where they stunned the ‘grand slam’ seeking Talk ’N Text Tropang Texters in seven games.

“Malaking bagay kung makukuha namin si Dondon uli,” said Agustin of the 6-foot-2 Hontiveros during Petron’s victory party – the team’s 19th championship – Wednesday at the San Miguel Corp. compound in Ortigas.

“Kailangan kasi namin palakasin yung shooting guard, ito kasi yung position ni Grundy. Kung mawala s’ya, we need a two-guard na makaka- contribute,” added Agustin, who will also have to let go of Lordy Tugade and Jojo Duncil as they will rejoin their original team ShopPinas.

Well, maybe they need confirmation :D

On a more serious note, when making a pick you really have to analyse all angles and possibilities as you don't want to waste that pick (even on Gilas players) as there'd be issues individually and how it would work with your current system.

Say for Casio, if you were the scout/team manager wouldn't you want to see if indeed he's 100% healthy? Or for Barroca, would you get him if you're more of a half-court set type of team? etc etc.

JRQuinahan and draft pick for @DougKramer44 & Vanlandingham?! If true, both teams will benefit. Bagay mga players sa pupuntahang coaches ;)

So Guiao's interested in bringing back his Porkchop Duo of Beau Belga and JR Quinahan in his fold. Typical of Guiao to want a big man capable of making the outside shot. I'm surprised though that he's willing to give up Kramer, a player who has flourished in Guiao's system. This won't be the first time, if ever, that Kramer will be traded away by Guiao. When the coach was still handling Air 21, he traded Kramer to Rain Or Shine. This, after Kramer just made a monster 20-20 performance with the Express. And when Guiao started handling ROS, Kramer proved himself again through timely jumpers from the outside and his intensity underneath the boards.

For Guiao to win an AFC title though, he would need the services of a marquee player who can take the lead role at crunch time. I can see ROS winning a title under Guiao in the future, not unlike what he did for Red Bull before. But this would be in an import-laced conference. His partnership with Andy Jao has done wonders before at Red Bull and part of that magic is their ability to get topnotch imports. Of course, their import agent, Sam Unera, has already passed away, but it shouldn't stop this tandem to continue getting imports that will dominate (AZ Reid was a good start for them).

But without a take charge guy in offense, Guiao will find difficulty winning an AFC, especially when ranged against top local teams like Petron, TNT, BGK, Alaska and B-Meg. Gabe Norwood is a fine specimen of a player but he will never be a dominant guy as he's too unselfish. Note that Guiao never won a AFC with Red Bull as his coaching style is for the individual to submit himself to the system - a system of sharing the ball. Which also explains why Red Bull never won a MVP award from its roster - but - their players are also the most marketable.
