Sydney Spirit head coach Rob Beveridge has been chosen to lead the World Select Team at the prestigious Nike Hoop Summit in Portland, Oregon.

Beveridge was reappointed for his fifth straight year as a head coach for the game, which is to be played on April 11 2009 at The Rose Garden, the 20,000-seat home of the NBA’s Portland TrailBlazers.

“I am very privileged to be part of this great event,” said Beveridge. “Every NBA team sends its scouts to the Nike Hoop Summit to evaluate the world’s top basketball talent for an entire week of training. The event is an incredible opportunity to receive exposure for a future in professional basketball for the players and always a fantastic experience for the coaching staff as well.”

This will be the 12th year the annual tournament has been held, and features a USA Basketball Men’s Junior Select Team comprised of the top U.S. high school graduating senior players against a World Select Team, comprised of top U19 players from around the globe.

NBA scouts flock to the tournament annually, with current NBA superstars such as Dirk Nowitzki and Tony Parker, Kevin Garnett, Elton Brand and Baron Davis having previously participated.

The event is acknowledged as a major showcase for future NBA talent, with four of the top five players selected in the 2008 NBA Draft having participated in the 2007 Nike Hoop Summit.

The game will be seen live nationally in TV in the US.

Beveridge is a fine, fine coach. But it's very easy to bet against a single coach, so I voted "no." :D
