Thanks for providing the links, tpraseri. That makes your research look a lot better!

I've often heard that 5'10" (177 CMs) is the average for the US, but I've never really believed it. I'm 6' (184 CMs) and it seems that I'm really average. I know 2 inches doesn't make much of a difference, but it sure seems like I'm average.

Also, at one of the schools where I work, there are 3 women who are taller than me. So, in my opinion, the average height of US women should be more than 6'.

because I could not find a scientific research of Montenegro...

I know the average height of the Dinaric Alps:185.6cm (younger)
(Dinaric Alps is a small area(sparsely populated-only small cities) of these countries:Montenegro,Serbia,Croatia,Albania,Bosnia-Hezergovina,Slovenia)
The avgs of these countries(in the list) are shorter 179-180cm(the most part of the population of these countries, is out of the Dinaric Alps)

There you go, the Dinaric Alps do have the tallest people in the world.
Some claim Tutsies are the tallest, but I don't think there's really scientific research to back that up.

avg height of whites in USA is 179cm, Women 165cm(20-39 years)
avg height of blacks in USA is 178cm, Women 163cm(20-39 years)
avg height of hispanics in USA is 171cm, Women 159cm(20-39 years)
Trust me,all researches shows the same numbers...

Women are shorter is all places of the world-the tallest women in the world are from Dinaric Alps(171cm-5'7.3")

Here 2 links - scientific researches (USA):

You´re right:

The Nilotic peoples of Sudan such as the Dinka have been described as the tallest in the world, with the males in some communities having average heights of 1.9 m (6 ft 3 in) and females at 1.8 m (5 ft 11 in).[75] A notable example is Manute Bol, who, at 2.31 m (7 ft 7 in), was the tallest basketball player in NBA history. The Dinka are characterized as having long legs, narrow bodies and short trunks, an adaptation to hot weather.[76] However, a 1995 study casts doubt on the claim of extraordinary height in Dinka, which after studying the average height of Dinka males in one location, listed the actual number as 1.76 m (5 ft 9.45 in).

The heights and weights of 2,233 randomly selected adult Nilotic immigrants from Southern Sudan (50.8% Dinkas, 43.8% Nuers, 3.4% Anuaks and 2.0% Shilluks) that have settled in Itang, Southwestern Ethiopia were measured. The mean height, weight and body mass index [BMI = weight(kg)/the square of height(m2)] of men (N = 1,1618) were 175.9 + 9 cm) (+/- SD), 59.7 +/- 8 kg, and 19.4 +/- 2, respectively, and those of women (N = 615) were 169.0 +/- 7 cm, 54.0 +/- 8 kg, and 19.1 +/- 3, respectively. The mean height of Dinka men (176.4 +/- 9 cm) and Nuer men (175.7 +/- 9 cm) were significantly higher than that of Anuak men (171.7 +/- 8 cm) and Shilluk men (172.6 +/- 6.1 cm). The Nuer women's mean height, weight and BMI were significantly lower than those of the other tribes'. This study confirms that the Nilotics in Southern Sudan have slender bodies and are amongst the tallest in the world, and may attain greater height if priviledged with favourable environmental conditions during early childhood and adolescence, allowing full expression of the genetic material

Well, since I come from Dinaric Alps, from Herzegovina, I can say something about that... I'm not that tall, I'm only 182 cm, but I think it's enough to say that in my class in high school, out of 13 men, only one was smaller than me, and the other one was the same size... Everyone else were higher than us, and 5 of my classmates were above 195 cm... Others were around 188-190 cm... Well, I know why I'm not that tall, my mother is from Bosnia, and the average Bosnian is much smaller than average Herzegovinian (or how ever you say that )... The one that was smaller than me (172 cm) was also from the border of Dinaric Alps, and this one who is my size is born in Sarajevo, which is Bosnia... I know there were scientists coming to our schools, they were examining why are we so taller then the rest (not me ), but I don't know what they concluded...

As far as I know, there are three regions with very tall men: Montenegro, Herzegovina and Dalmatia... Montenegro is a country now, so their average is visible from the stats, while Herzegovina and Dalmatia are regions in their countries...

And I hate when people say just 'Bosnia', I know it's easier, but the name of the country is Bosnia and Herzegovina, or simply B&H... Does anyone in the world call 'Trinidad and Tobago' just 'Trinidad'

Something doesnt sit right with me re lithuania. I am 6ft and one of the shortest of my friends. I walk around the city and I feel short. Maybe the figures you have here are for old men?

I have also lived in Australia and I was much taller than the average person there because you have many nations (cam bodia, vitenam etc) at the bottom of your list living there (permament). I think you figures are skewed somewhat.

Lithuania: (Official research)
http://medicina.kmu.lt/0601/0601-08e.pdf

In rural areas the avg is shorter...The avg of university students in Lithuania is 182cm(the avg is different according to social class),probably in your city the average is taller-ex:North China(Urban) avg height is 177cm(younger),
South China (Urban) avg height is 172cm(younger),China (rural) avg height is 167cm(younger)...same country, different averages.
