Default Where's the Omar Samhan thread?

Egyptian American Omar Samhan is killing it with the Mavs in summer league. He had a great 4 year college career at St. Mary's and I'm surprised that he wasn't picked in the draft. I named him as one of my sleeper undrafted players on another forum. This guy is very skilled and has a ton of post moves, he's a good one.

Im suprised he didnt get drafted either, he really blew up and posted big time numbers in the ncca tournament, and he's has legit size.

Hope he can hold down an NBA spot, but he's got a future playing somehwere for a while..

That's good to see that he signed. Omar flew a little 'under the radar' playing at a small college here in the Bay Area. He has a lot of skills that many bigs in the NBA don't have but he's slow and doesn't get good lift. He's plays with fire and doesn't get intimidated. I think he'll do well

That's great news .
He was a great player for St. Mary's and made alot of noise when he helped them make it to the Sweet 16 this season.

Wish him all the best in Lithuania!

I was surprised to actually see him being signed by a European team that quickly.
How did Zalgiris get to know about him?
Do they have scouts in the NBA summer camp or was it through an agent?

imho, Zalgiris offers quite bugger No. of games in Euroleague, BBL, LKL, VTB leagues this year against really good teams in EL and VTB, so this is very attractive to young player.
secondly, I think, that the selection of young prospects is never ending activity. So probably at least it was through agent, but there were talks that our GM was in Las Vegas....

UPDATE:

Here's part from the interview with Kaunas Zalgiris GM:

– He was recommended by sport agents which we contact proactively, as well as some basketball specialists. We have talked to Omar's coach, scouts from NBA clubs. We had quite complete info about this player. The only risk is that he has never played European basketball, but he's got so much potential..

Thanks . I think that the Zalgiris GM is smart in his recruiting tactics even though it seems he likes to take risks as well .
Hope Samhan can surprise everyone positively in Europe and I hope he is able to adapt to the lifestyle as well as European basketball quickly since he is a smart player and I believe is capable of doing so.
