Default Are East Asians tall people?

I kinda got confused because when I went to Seoul most of the people there were short. I rarely see people there who are above 6'0".

What about Thailand? are they taller than Filipinos or no?

The difference in size between the Korean and Filipino basketball team is pretty large and none of the big Koreans in their front court are naturalized or mixed. South Korea is a only half the population of the Philippines so the Koreans are in general taller.

Thais are lighter in color, taller and Chinese looking in the north. They look exactly like Filipinos in the south since they are mainly malay ethnically there.

As far as East Asians are concern, the northern Chinese are definitely much taller. On average, Han Chinese from Jilin, Heilongjian, Liaoning and Shandong are among the tallest groups in Asia.

Han Chinese from the Central and Western provinces also produce a lot of tall people (compared to the rest of Asia.)

Southern Han Chinese are not that much different from Japanese and are rather short though in general taller than SE Asians.

The difference is Southern Han, even Cantonese, can have extremely tall people (Yi Jianlian) even though most are short. That's from the admixture of northern blood.

For example, my Chinatown neighborhood team always have several guys over 6' 0". In fact, our team are generally equal in height to teams from white neighborhoods. (The blacks kill us because they are not only tall but extremely fast. Their tall guys are as fast as ours -- and the whites' -- shorter guys.)

The Viet and Flip teams rarely have even one guy over 5' 10" and that one tall guy is usually Viet-Hoa (Viet-Chinese) or Tsinoy (Filipino-Chinese.) LOL

average height of east asians is 165 cm compared to americans at 177 cm and Filipinos at 164 cm ....

Europe has now surpassed the US, particularly the Netherlands, the Scandinavian nations and the people from the Dinaric Alps, in south-eastern Europe. The people from the Dinaric Alps are the tallest in the world (186 cm for males).

The Netherlands was in the late nineteenth century a land renowned for its short population, but today it has the tallest national average in the world,[2] with young men averaging 183 cm (6 ft) tall and only shorter than the peoples of the Dinaric Alps (Montenegro, western Bosnia, coastal and hinterland Croatia and a part of Slovenia). In Africa, the Maasai are known for their tallness, often 6 feet or more, although the Watusi tribe is thought to have the tallest people in Africa or indeed the world, growing to heights of 7 feet or more.

Average male height in impoverished Vietnam and North Korea[3] remains comparatively small at 163 cm (5 ft 4 in) and 165 cm (5 ft 5 in), respectively. Currently, young adult North Korean males are actually significantly shorter. This contrasts greatly with the extreme growth occurring in surrounding Asian populations with correlated increasing standards of living

How come Filipinos are so short say compared to Taiwan? its pretty close but there's a huge height difference! Taiwan in the recent years have seen the same height increase as Mainland, Korea and Japan.

here's a very rough report of average height for global population. China's average is 173.3cm for male and Taiwan is 171.48cm.

Certainly not to the US. From what I've seen, the flip teams are very short even compared to the Chinatown teams. And in the US, the CTowns are composed mainly of Cantonese who are the shortest of the Chinese groups.

If you look at the Taiwan and South Korean teams, you see that all of their front court players are native unlike the Philippines. Nearly all are not even mixed. Taiwan has 20 million people, South Korea 49 million. The Philippines has 91 million.

If the average person in the RP were anywhere near as tall as people in Taiwan or South Korea, the RP NT should have a lot more tall front court players because it has a much, MUCH larger population.

China's soccer team has the same problem as the basketball team. Dominating height means China uses the aerial game in soccer. That means lobbing in passes from the side and having their much taller forwards head balls on goal.

The Chinese midfield can't dribble for sh1t.

Chinese basketball has good frontcourt (in Asia, this frontcourt is dominant.) But it's guard play sucks.

China's biggest problem is the reliance on height advantage instead of skill. South Korea is far better at training and building skills in both basketball and soccer.

No! They're both same... The 100% pure Thai are like black Malay as similar of pure Laotians, I can't explain...The Thais grabed the land against Laotians.. The Filipinos are small Ita, Malaysians are Malay, Indonesians also Malay too, Chinese are Chinese, Japanese are Japanese, Koreans are Koreans, Europeans are white, Africans are black, Americans are Indians...
