Default Manny Pacquiao picked as best pound-for-pound fighter

Manny Pacquiao picked as best pound-for-pound fighter

A boxing website has picked Filipino sports icon Manny Pacquiao as its top pound-for-pound fighter following the retirement of Floyd Mayweather.

"With Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s announced retirement, FightFan.com has elevated former no. 2 ranked Manny Pacquiao to the number one pound-for-pound fighter in all of boxing," said the website’s staff.

The powerful hitter has consistently been hailed by several boxing websites as the second-best boxer in the world.

FightFan.com, however, said that since Pacquiao has consistently been fighting top class boxers since 2003, he deserved to be Mayweather’s successor.

"Pacquiao’s lengthy path through the best fighters in three different divisions coupled with his emphatic stoppage victories over legendary fighters like Marco Antonio Barrera and Eric Morales have solidified the Filipino terror’s place atop of FightFan.com’s pound-for-pound list," the website’s staff said.

They added that although number two pound-for-pound fighter Joe Calzaghe has had quite a run in the last two years, "he simply does not stack up to boxing’s most electrifying sensation in Manny ‘The Pacman’ Pacquiao."

Aside from Pacquiao and Calzaghe, those who made into FightFan.com’s list are Juan Manuel Marquez (3), Israel Vasquez (4), Miguel Cotto (5), Ivan Calderon (6), Bernard Hopkins (7), Kelly Pavlik (8), Winky Wright (9) and Rafael Marquez (10).

Pacquiao is the best pound for pound fighter? No doubt. The dude is a monster. Even with Mayweather, Pacquiao is the best. He's the most ferocious since early Mike Tyson.

Lousy basketball player, though.

Yeah... No doubt, he is now number 1 pound for pound this time. But seriously, I'm afraid of him because he move up to lightweight division and he's challeger to fight for the title again! He will might to be next Elorde and I hope he will not to next Elorde.

Well, when Roberto Manos de Piedra Duran moved up, he was still extremely successful, so Pacquiao can do it too. I think Pacquiao is about as good as Duran back then (although I never saw Duran fight). I seriously don't think there is much doubt about who the best pound-for-pounder is or who the most exciting pugilist is. Pacquiao.
