    Just in.

    Link (in portuguese)

Translated with Google. If I have time I will correct some stuff in this translation later.

The National Basketball League (LNB) set new deadline for registration of teams for the second edition of the New Basketball Brazil (NBB). In technical meeting held in São Paulo, the LNB ahead to the day on August 14 the limit for which the teams present their proposals - one technical and financial evaluation will be made before confirmation of the times that disputarão the NBB.

The start of the championship will be the first week of November, to avoid coincidence with the timing of the South American League, which participate Flamengo, Pythagoras / Mines and Universo / BRB / Financial Brasilia.

"We are attentive to the needs to adjust details. We had a surprising success in the first edition and continue improving the LNB on a more professional, "says Monadjemi Kouros, president of the League. The new schedule, the tournament ends, at most, on May 31. Before the World Cup football in Africa, in 2010.

    Changes in regulation

Representatives of 15 clubs participated in the meeting, which also defined changes in regulation of NBB. It was confirmed a new classification system for the playoffs - always in series best-of-five. From this edition, only the first four on the stage of classification provide direct wave at the stage of the mata-mata. The teams that remain between the 5th and 12th placement disputarão a series best-of-five games by the four remaining vacancies, with the following junctions: 5 x 12, 6 x 11, 7 x 10 and 8 x 9.

Crossing the quarter-finals will be set after the reclassification of times. The worst placed of the stage of classification to win this playoff will face the first place (the stage of classification).

    Clubs like the new system

For the teams, the new system will benefit the participants playoffs. "It's a chance for more teams and complements the competition. The format of the previous edition of dispute was very good, but this helps to determine the best classified, "the technical Hélio Rubens, the Live / France, placed seventh in the first edition of the NBB.

Marco Antonio Aga, coach of the buddy / Andorinha / Assis, 11 placed in the first edition, agrees. "This gives teams the opportunity to participate more in playoffs. Serves to motivate and encourage the clubs, "he concludes.

During the meeting, the teams opted to maintain the rotation of seats for games at the stage of the mata-mata - in the first confrontation with the home team's worst season and the following two of the best on the court classified. If necessary, the fourth game back to the worst gym in the table and placed fifth in the best campaign.

The novelty is that in the playoff final, the decisive part will send the LNB. Thus, if the third game of the series, for example, can set the command will be the champion of the LNB and the ability of the gym should be minimum of 4 thousand fans.

In the first edition, the NBB had public disputes with 237 games total of 593,847 fans. The final attracted 63,847 people, with an average of 12,769 per game. The public record was 16 thousand people in the confrontation between Flamengo and universe, on 1 May, in Brasilia.

Palmeiras (a big soccer club in Brazil) finalized a partnership with Araraquara. This is the second soccer club in NBB (the other one is Flamengo).

Verdão is one of the nicknames of the Palmeiras club, but the official basketball name of the team will be "Palmeiras/Lupo/Araraquara". The article also says that 60% of the games will be played in Araraquara and 40% in São Paulo (where most of Palmeiras fans are).

Araquara/Palmeiras said one of their targets is to sign a NBA player. I doubt they can manage to do that.

Very interesting signing from Paulistano, but I think they don't have a team to fight for the championship yet. They need to add a few more pieces to reach that level, IMO.

Rumor: Joaquim Gomes to Universo Brasília? (in portuguese)

Some sources are pointing that the negotiations with the MVP from the last African Cup are really advanced with the Brasilia team.

Wow that's really surprising. Kikas should move out of Angola to a bigger stage, NBB would be just perfect. What the article mentions is true, many clubs in Brazil and not only disregard talents from other parts of the globe beyond the USA. The Portuguese-speaking world should be more explored in that sense.

Well, with this signing, Kika is a bit more distant from playing in Brazil (according to this source). If Universo/Brasilia can get him, I think they will be the clear favorites to win it all.
