Default Fil-Am girl may make it to WNBA

But here's the sad part. Since SBP is concentrating so much on Men's hoops, USA Basketball beat us to the punch. She just represented Team USA in the FIBA U19 World Championships where her team got the gold.

Very similar to the case of Christian Standhardinger who represented Germany's youth squad as well.

It's all up to SBP to court these two great finds. But at the end of the day, it will still be the player's decision and interest on whether they are willing (more than the money involved of course) to play for their parent's motherland. There has been well-known precedents for similar switches as we are aware of.

Although I doubt USA Basketball is going to release Chay Chegog, it's still worth trying.

It might be easier to ask the German federation to release Christian Standhardinger. I believe this FIBA ruling has already been used by Jordan in requesting the release of their 7 foot center Jamaal Almaitah for the 2009 FIBA Asia. Almaitah was disqualified in the 2007 FIBA Asia after he was discovered to have played previously for the German U19 NT.

Btw, this should be the correct link to my 1st post. My bad.

May I also alert anybody from SBP who may be viewing this post. Just read from this article that Chay Chegog has two brothers: Richard (25) and Anthony (13). If the sister is 6'5" then those brothers may be much taller. But the question is: do they play hoops?

The Filipino lineage in Chay Chegog is very evident in her looks.

    Unhappy

What? Maybe the support of our country is not enough. Calling authorities to act on this.

As of my latest check, she will play her junior season for North Carolina this coming November. So her WNBA career is about two years away still.

    She made it to WNBA.

Is she eligible to play for Philippines? Pretty good height, would probably dominate at least in Asia.
