I'm f****g disappointed with the way our boys played against Qatar.
I agree with your comments, Chinese-Taipei deserve a lot of respect not giving an inch and played very well against all odds, basketball professionals they may be but they fought well for due recognition, for flag and country. My hat's off to them.

The Philippines just gave up and just settle for a better finish.

Barrios proud of RP cagers’ China stint

TIANJIN, CHINA — PBA Commissioner Renauld “Sonny” Barrios considers his experience with the Philippine team in the ongoing FIBA-Asia Championship as one of the highlights of his commissionership.

Being with the RP team, according to Barrios, is an experience worth telling many times over.

    It’s wonderful and very fulfilling.

“Not because I may not have the chance to address you guys again, I want to thank you all for this wonderful experience you’ve given me personally,”

Barrios said after the viewing session with RP team coach Yeng Guiao and the rest of the players.

“So far, what you have achieved is us avoiding going home with our heads bowed because of shame that we will be the poorest achievers in the history of PBA (formed RP team),” Barrios added.

“In fact, I think, when we get back to Manila I’ll get a little depressed going back to our respective day jobs. I as your commissioner, you as ball club players, coach here as coach of Burger King,” he said.

“But this experience, you know when I retire, and my grandchildren to be asks me ‘Lolo what are your happiest days when you were PBA commissioner?’ With out a doubt I’ll say ‘During the time with you guys.'"

“You will never see me this happy in my day job as PBA commissioner, for making me experience this enjoyment and feeling fulfilled. "I will never experience this again,” Barrios added.

It was actually Barrios who handpicked Guiao to form, train and handle the team for this qualifying tournament for the World Championship slated next year in Turkey.

With the team now in the quarterfinals, the country’s worst finish would be eighth, which is better than the disappointing ninth of the previous national team mentored by Chot Reyes during the FIBA-Asia Championship in 2007 in Tokushima, Japan, the qualifying tournament then for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

That was the best thing that I've read in this article.

Can't believe the Pilipines gave up like that. Didn't even show any effort. I expected much more than what they shown.

yeah, if we have the same coach and roster that we have last 2007 we could have at least reach 4th place

You could see this classification round debacle coming. Right after the quarterfinal loss, Barrios and Guiao started giving valedictory statements...effectively saying, "Sayonara! We had fun while improving greatly on our previous finish!". Take note that neither one of them said "we still have a job to do guys - tournament's not yet over."

It's the job of enlightened basketball leaders to instill the proper frame of mind for the players. Barrios and Guiao have been grossly derelict in their duty.

What makes my blood boil is the gall of these two clowns to trumpet their "improvement" over Chot Reyes' 9th place finish in 2007. Their "accomplishment" was brought about only because of a huge gift to them - the luck of the draw.

Chot's preliminary elimination, however bitter, did not dissuade his team from doing a more "professional" job by giving their all in the classification round. Let it be known that the 2007 team fought like tigers in the consolation pool. They had more pride and balls, repeating over China Team B and beating India and also Syria in OT (they swept all those "no-bearing" games if I'm not mistaken). That speaks volumes about their heart. Don't be fooled by the number - it was a "golden 9th" in my book.

It's high time Barrios and Guiao stop spinning their misadventures at the expense of Chot Reyes, Eala, Toroman, the Smart-Gilas team and the SBP.

IT'S ABOUT HOW YOU FINISH, STUPID!!!

IM ALSO DISAPPOINTED THE WAY THEY ENDED THIS TOURNAMENT! but with lots of thinking, I have got to accept and understand our players.. We must consider that they are not used to play everyday/everynight. they are sooo tired right now not only physically but mentally and emotionally. All the hopes, faiths, heart, pride, will to win.etc are now gone with the lost to jordan.
I am considering the game against jordan was their last game in this tournament.

Now, lets wait for the GILAS TEAM to represent our country! the team that will be formed to REPRESENT our beloved RP ALL THE WAY!
    GO TEAM PILIPINAS!!! LABAN!!!

Emotionally, the players got affected. They really wanted to win against Jordan but we're not yet that strong to beat them. Just like what happened in the past when Team Pilipinas lost to Korea in the semifinals by 1 via a buzzer beater three. Then, in the battle for 3rd, they just didn't play the same team anymore that's why they lost to Kazakhstan.

And it was the consensus of all the coaches over there that the Philippines has the most talented team and if the team only had a more longer and better preparation, we could have done better. But our games against Kuwait and Qatar showed that our players does not have the dedication to play at their best may it be a bearing or a no-bearing match. The other Asian teams find the attitude of our players as disturbing and a bad example to the young players who look up to them. The saddest thing about it is our players call themselves PROFESSIONALS.
    well said!

Barrios is happy with the type of performance that shitty RP team had against Qatar. He's such a big joke. Even bigger than his favorite Baldy.

I still support this Powerade team until the end... and today's the end.
It's not their fault, they are just tools, who should we blame here is the management behind them who gave them insufficient prep.

After this, I will continue to support our new NT, the Smart Gilas.

    Go RP!

If they failed to went to semi-finals, Philippine NT should be keep in going just play basketball anyway. Because of their ashameful performance if they play petics basketball. They played very lousy game against that weaker than Smart Gilas team and can beaten by PBA teams for 5th-6th places. I saw since players since Jones Cup, the Philippine team players played like an amateur level. I've given Philippine NT performance grade at 55
    [i]50 = lowest, 100 = highest.

Anyway Coach Yeng Guiao protested Coach Ron Jacobs for coaching job in PBA because of Jacobs has been not married to Filipina. Coach Ron had rights to be coaching job in PBA. Former commisioner late Jun Bernardino chose Jacobs to be 1998 Philippine NT headcoach and then coach Yeng's felt sour grapes. So like Coach Yeng envy on Ron Jacobs. Because Coach Yeng dreamed to be Philippine NT headcoach and then his dream came true to be Asian Champion. And then he failed, "hey Coach Yeng Guiao where's your surprise for us"

apparently, that's not the first priority of the 'coach' and the 'commissioner'.
all they want is to beat the 9th place.

Has anyone noticed the way this coach shuffles the players? Whenever a player starts to get its groove, he benches him. He does this every game. It also seems he has a time table on where to give his players a rest. Every game, and I mean every game, he sits Yap with 4mins left in the 3rd and then brings him back in with 4 mins remaining in the 4th qtr.

In many occasion, Yap was waxing hot on the 3rd just before he replaces him, then he brings him back when we he is dead cold.

Hey guys, we're playing well against S. Korea. It's a close match but we're leading with 4mins to go.
Do you know what "nemesis" means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by an 'orrible cunt... me.
