During the 2-3 month sit-down period of Japeth, is he allowed to try out with foreign club teams or will he stay with GILAS scrimmages?

wow there's sumthin suspicious with japeth donating 150K allowance.. Maybe the real reason y japeth wants to play for Gilas is the Money... Maybe the offer of Gilas is higher than the offer of BK.. sad to say if it's true..

we'll cross the bridge when we get there .... as of now his focus is to play for GILAS. It might even be a blessing that he'll sit-down while he cannot play at the PBA, he could work on bulking-up and improve his strength.

ok to cut all this crap .... his kabalens took pity of the kid and anytime he could approach the Pinedas for help. Money is not a problem for Japeth right now as a number of Kapangpangans had rallied behind their young provincemate who they felt is being bullied. Then it is Nathanielz who has provided for the condo he and his sister could stay then even if Japs does not have his own car to use, it is the rich barkada if her sister in Assumption who is making hatid-sundo to wherever Japeth goes or sometimes a teammate or a GILAS staff gives him a ride. As I said before, it is a rule for Toroman that they dine together. Then Chris Tiu and CJ Giles are such "giving" friends.

There's nothing much for Japeth to spend.

no, GILAS is not a product as I discussed in another thread before. GILAS is the acronym for Gearing up Internet Literacy and Access for Students, a multi-sectoral initiative that aims to provide Internet access for students and basic Internet literacy programs in all the 5,443 public secondary schools in the Philippines in the next 5 years. The mission is led by a consortium of private corporations and civic organizations, in coordination with the Department of Education. One of the bigger benefactors is the PLDT/SMART group.

It's one of the ways for MVP to share back to public all the blessings he had gotten. He is also supporting Amateur Boxing and number of other sports. He also agreed to have a state-of-the-art Sports Arena built as requested by the Philippine Sports Commission.

This is more of MVP's Philanthropist persona than the businessman.

Burger finds allies in Aguilar issue

    BY NOLI CORTEZ

BURGER King is not alone in its bid to settle the Japeth Aguilar issue.

    10/08/2009

Several PBA members yesterday expressed their wholehearted support to BK team manager and league chairman Lito Alvarez in the latter’s bid to acquire the services of the 6-foot-9 forward, who snubbed the Whoppers’ lucrative contract offer and has opted to play for the Smart Gilas developmental pool instead.

"We have already reached a consensus, without even having to go to the process of taking votes," revealed Alvarez, referring to the Board’s decision to prevent Aguilar from playing for guest team Gilas in the KFC Philippine Cup.

Alvarez also made a public appeal for top officials of the SBP, which backs Smart Gilas, to step in and help resolve the issue yesterday during the formal unveiling of the new PBA season at the Diamond Hotel on Roxas Blvd.

"The key to the solution of this problem is the SBP," stressed Alvarez, who is set to meet with SBP officials later yesterday.

Whatever comes out of that meeting, especially a result negative to Burger King, will be met with extreme disapproval by the other governors Malaya spoke with as they promised to stand by their chairman.

"Hindi lang kasi ang Burger King ang inaayawan niya dito kundi the league itself na," said one governor.

According to other board representatives, they are even ready to change league rules regarding holdouts.

Aguilar turned down BK’s offer of a three-year, P8.7 million contract and a clause to play for Gilas when called.

"It’s a no-brainer situation para sa kanya dahil he can have the best of both worlds, so to speak," said Alvarez. "Kaya nga I am at a loss why he doesn’t want to play for Burger King."

"Sa sandaling iaakyat na formally ni chairman sa Board ang problema niya with Aguilar, then we can start talking on what sanctions we will impose on the player beyond the Philippine Cup," said another governor.

"Wala kaming nakikitang division sa Board regarding that dahil dito (Philippine Cup decision) pa lang unanimous na ang lahat," said another.

Gilas is reportedly giving Aguilar food and practice allowance and will not offer him any contract until the issue with Burger King is resolved.

Alvarez said he hopes Aguilar will see things their way and bared he has even asked that a uniform be readied for Aguilar, just in case.

Another thing the Board members agree on is their commitment to uphold the PBA’s tradition of excellence in its 35th season which starts Sunday.

According to Commissioner Sonny Barrios, the league is ready to dish out its usual fare of exciting games and give fans their money’s worth while meeting head-on the challenges and problems posed by rival tournaments and other forms of amusements which could distract the fans.

In deference to the countless victims of the recent typhoons that ravaged the country and claimed hundreds of lives–including former chairman Tony Chua of Barako Bull–a "watered-down" opening ceremony has been lined up before the lone kickoff match pitting Burger King against Purefoods.
