Edit: It's Gameday 3.
Note: Latvian guards Kristaps Valters [Oldenburg] and Kristaps Janicenoks [Bonn] both played in Germany for a short span, as did Uvis "The Latvian Bear" Helmanis for a longer span, a local hero in Bamberg for his abilities to both shoot the three and beat the shit out of his opponents. Young Ernests Kalve had a season in Gießen, but didn't play due to injury.

After yesterdays unlucky defeat against France, i think the Germans are missing Nowitzki so much.. But against Latvia Femmerling will enoughI like his play style.. Before this tournament my hfinal pred. was Spain-Germany , because i didnt knew that Nowitzki was not in the squad...
Well, in this match Germany will win over 10pts dif.. Viel Erfolg Deutschland![]()
But Biedrins wasn't a factor in this game... i think if he plays well (plays better than Femerling) i think Latvia can steal this one..
IF THERE IS NO BASKETBALL IN HEAVEN, I AM NOT GOING.
Latvia is playing France today and Germany is playing Russia aren't they?
I am pretty sure its France vs. Latvia

Germany are playing Russia
France are playing Lativia
Oh, is this the Zavackas joke now?
Pardon, most of the guys currently here don't know what that joke is about ... you weren't here when it happened.![]()
Would explain why I never got your Zavackas avatar. But we can use this thread tonight and tomorrow. Everything will fine, don't worry.
Only Boris can judge me.
i haven't seen a thread for this yet. Virtual KO match for Latvia, and Germany's chance to move on without complications (they could still advance though if they lose depending on what happens with the FRA-RUS game)
Is Latvia playing real bad? Is Germany for real after two good games? (Just collapsed vs. France in the end game)
IF THERE IS NO BASKETBALL IN HEAVEN, I AM NOT GOING.
Im really proud to see how (good) this german national team develops.
But in my opinion they are a bit overrated after the first two games.
France and Russia underestimated clear this german team. Russia missed 21 of 49 free throws and hitting no 2 two pointer in the first quarter. They started a run in the second half but it was to late.
Our national commentator said in yesterdays coverage vs Russia, that the french national team admitted that they have underrated us.
They have a lot of fighting spirit, coach Bauermann does a really good job, playing good defense. But on offense we are on a lower euopean level.
With Benzing we have a young talent, that was topscorer in most preperation games, but he has to prove his scoring abilities in important games.
Jan Jagla is a way to inconsistent, on one day, like yesterday he made 19 points and the next day he scores only 6. He has to much up and downs in a game. With Schaffartzik we have a really solid-good scorer, he can create own shots, good from 3 point range, a bit weaker drive. But he is clear weaker than Hamann on defense.
I see these 3 players as our most dangerous offense weapons.
Our biggest advantage on offense is that we could have every day an other player as top scorer, no one or two who carry the team on their shoulders.
It would be glad if Bauermann could add for the future on or two consistenst scorer to this team, so we could have potential for Top 7 to Top 9 team.
Ohlbrecht (PF/C) could fill this role but he played few in the last year so he has sometimes problems with essential things. But he has a nice shooting touch and is a good free throw shooter.
I don't think they are overrated. Whatever the sport you always take seriously any german NT.
The point (like i said in another post) is that scouting is pretty hard against germany as many players don't have that much play time, and some of them play in german second division. And i pass on the fact that scouting germany with or without nowitski is not the same story.
French players were not very intense defensively in the beginning but we were prepared and knew that it would be a fight. The point is that our offense rely mostly on three players, parker de colo & traoré. Batum and diaw are too focus on giving the extra, extra, extra, extra pass which is part of our team issues (others being our lack of size and threats inside the paint etc)
German defense is pretty tough (and not only their zone defense ^^) and they aim pretty well at potential threats (parker in 1st game, de colo/batum as well and mc carthy in the game against russia). Their offense is weird to my eyes (many fast jump shots and so many three pointers attempts) but it seems quite successfull (+ good efficiency at the free throw line)

It is difficult to define. If we say they are overrated, we first have to know what the general opinion on this German team is.
As for my expectations, I think this team can reach the next round, and if we get another surprise in the next round, the quarter finals as the absolute maximum.
It is true however that France had a very subpar performance against us, and that Russia had a completely forgettable day at the line. Like France by the way. I have several ideas how we are influencing them, but I can't tell you those secrets.
Latvia is going to be a difficult matchup, I always thought of them as a dangerous team that can cause upset, a team that somewhat lacks solid defense, toughness, and a good floor general. I hope Schultze and Femerling manage to stay out of foul trouble, because those two guys provide veteran leadership, and in Femerling's case very good interior defense that none of the young guns brings to the table.
Again, it's 50-50.
Time to roll Latvia. So far tournament has been big disappointment for us, but now it's time to win.

heja, heja cibosi, vodite nas k pobjedi. "
some of the people on the forum are allowed to do whatever they want as long as they have guys from upstairs holding their back. way to go interbasket!
robbe what happens if Latvia wins by 8?
France and Russia are through.
According to my calculation Germany is at +3 and Latvia at -13 now. If Latvia wins by 8, they both get -5.
