    Default France national team 2010

Noah States Desire To Play With France

The man many people believe to be the key for France to reach the podium at the 2010 FIBA World Championship, Joakim Noah, desperately wants to be with Les Bleus when they play in Turkey.

Noah, who is in London for an NBA Europe Live game with the Chicago Bulls against the Utah Jazz, says he thoroughly enjoyed his time with the national team this summer but simply wasn't allowed to remain with the team for their successful EuroBasket Additional Qualifying Round campaign.

France survived without him in the AQR, but only managed a fifth-place finish at the EuroBasket in Poland.

"I spent two superb weeks (in France) and I know that Tony (Parker) did everything that he could for me to remain," Noah said.

"I hope to be a part of the group for next year ahead of the World Championship and then for the Olympic Games."

Noah says he has yet to ask Chicago about playing for France next summer in Turkey.

"No, it's not the best time," he said. "We have a long season, an important one and we will see once the season is over."

France had the look of world beaters six games into the EuroBasket but then came up against Spain in the Quarter-Finals and crashed to defeat with Pau Gasol's performance leading to their demise.

The EuroBasket MVP scored 28 points, pulled down nine rebounds and blocked four shots in that 86-66 Spain win.

Noah's combative presence, France coach Vincent Collet said in Poland, would have given the team a much better chance in that game.

"It's a super group and I believe that I can bring something to it," Noah said.

"At the EuroBasket, the team didn't play badly but they were missing an interior presence."

FRA – Parker, France welcome chance to meet Spain early on

PARIS (2010 FIBA World Championship) – France are looking ahead to the 2010 FIBA World Championship with a lot of optimism, despite being drawn in Group D with Lithuania and the team that knocked them out of EuroBasket medal contention, Spain.

Canada, New Zealand and Lebanon are also in the pool and French playmaker Tony Parker believes the table is now set for Les Bleus to have a good tournament.

"I think the draw is not too bad,” Parker said.

“We have not been drawn in the group of death (Parker didn’t specify whether A, B or C is the Group of Death).

“(France coach) Vincent (Collet) says our goal is to finish in the top two places of our group and I share that aim.

“We have the means to get there.”

At the draw, French Basketball Federation President Yvan Mainini and Spanish Basketball Federation supremo Jose Luis Saez sat side by side and when the two teams were paired, each smiled at the other.

“It is not necessarily a bad thing to have Spain in the group as we will avoid them in the knockout rounds,” said Collet, whose French team went undefeated at the EuroBasket in Poland before going up against Spain in the Quarter-Finals.

“We do have the spirit of revenge although it is a shame to play them first as we would have preferred to meet them later on in the group as we look to grow in the tournament. However, this might create an opportunity to surprise them.”

Didn't know where to put the summery I made of Antoine Diot performance vs Belgium... so I'll put it here.

Yeah, it was log ago, but there are no torrents of LeMans games (even those which I manage to see at streams) and there are no game highlights of Diot at all.

This is also first think I upload that requires a serious video edition...

    p.s.
If somebody will explain me how to make the boilsoft video work with avi (it tells me my codecs doesn't installed well, but they are) or know a solution to a problem that mkvmerge don't cut the file at some points (I had to make cuts longer or shorter then I wanted at the edges) I'll make this one better...

FRA – Noah injury a big blow for Collet

CHICAGO (2010 FIBA World Championship) – France coach Vincent Collet has new cause for concern about the availability of Joakim Noah after the Chicago Bulls shut down their big man indefinitely because of plantar fasciitis.

The 6ft 11in centre was sent back to Chicago from his team’s current road trip in order to receive treatment on his left foot and no precise date has been for his return.

“We’re shutting him down. It’s the best course of action right now,” said Bulls general manager Gar Forman. “We’ll re-evaluate it after the All-Star Break.”

Noah joined the French national side coached by Collet last summer for their preparation games ahead of the Additional Qualifying Round (AQR) for EuroBasket 2009 and averaged 13 points and 7.5 rebounds in two games played in Strasbourg.

France tried to keep the 24-year-old on the squad for the AQR games against Italy and Finland, but the Bulls made it quite clear he was not to play past the preparation round. Noah obliged, heading back stateside promptly.

This will be a particularly big blow for France as Noah has made great strides in his third NBA season. Through 46 games, he was averaging a double-double of 11.2 points and 12.0 rebounds, the latter ranking him third best in the league.

He had a breakthrough performance in last year’s memorable Eastern Conference first round playoff series against the Boston Celtics and so far this season had looked to have picked up where he left off.

FRA – Batum warming up for Turkey in style

PORTLAND (2010 FIBA World Championship) – Nicolas Batum missed the first 45 games of the NBA season while recovering from shoulder injury but he looks better than ever right now with the Portland Trail Blazers.

And that’s great news for France, who will play at the FIBA World Championship later this year in Turkey.

The 21-year-old had 31 points, seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals in Saturday's big win over Minnesota while on Monday, Batum drilled four of seven shots from behind the arc and finished with 21 points.

For a player best known for his defense, Batum is showing he’s becoming the complete player under Portland coach Nate McMillan – an assistant coach of Team USA.

"I think I'm more mature this year," said Batum.

"My approach of the game is different.

"When I play the game, I'm different because I see more. I've learned a lot. I'm just more mature than last year."

McMillan believes Batum became a more confident player last summer when he represented France.

The 2.01m guard/forward competed in the Additional Qualifying Round, and at the EuroBasket and helped France earn a trip to the 2010 FIBA World Championship.

With the French national side at the EuroBasket, he developed into one of the side's most potent players when it came to attacking the basket.

At the EuroBasket, Batum averaged 9.6 points and 4.9 rebounds per game.

"I want to be more aggressive on offense," Batum said. "Do my thing on offense and have fun."

Rodrigue Beaubois (Dallas Mavericks) may play at the World Championship. French staff contacts him last week. Beaubois had never play for any french national team so far.

And besides the 22 points at crazy percentages I liked this play:

FRA – Beaubois, the new star of France

OAKLAND (2010 FIBA World Championship) – There is a new buzz in French basketball and it’s all about Rodrigue Beaubois.

The 22-year-old rookie of the Dallas Mavericks hit a jaw-dropping nine of 11 shots from three-point range on Saturday night en route to a career-high 40 points in a 111-90 victory at Golden State.

Beaubois, who is shooting 52.5% from the field and a scintillating 43.3% from behind the arc, is turning into one of the most explosive scorers in the NBA.

He looks a certainty to make the France squad for the FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

"We see it a lot in practice," Germany superstar Dirk Nowitzki said of his Dallas teammate.

"He's a very, very explosive scorer.

"If he makes his shot, he's tough to guard because he's so good at penetrating and has a great floater and finishes in the paint. When he's on like that, he's a tough matchup for anyone."

Beaubois has had one scoring eruption after another this month but no one expected him to bust loose the way did on Saturday.

"What a performance by Beaubois," Nelson said.

"Unbelievable. We left him open a couple of times but it didn't matter.

“He made shots when we covered him, when he was open. Nine threes, what a performance. I didn't expect that."

Beaubois has shown on numerous occasions in March that he is a bona fide star in the making.

On March 3, he had 17 points in a 112-109 win over Minnesota. Two days later, the 6ft guard scored 22 in a 108-100 triumph over Sacramento and then on March 6, Beaubois took the Windy City by storm with 25 points in a 122-116 victory over Chicago.

Nevertheless Mavs coach Rick Carlisle, perhaps because he wants to keep Beaubois hungry and humble, has in several games not called his youngster’s number.

After scoring 11 points in just eight minutes in a 113-106 victory over Chicago on March 17, Beaubois didn't get off the bench three days later in a 102-93 home defeat to Boston.

On Thursday in a 101-89 defeat to Portland - 48 hours before his 40-point eruption in Oakland against Golden State - Beaubois logged just one minute.

"The great thing about Roddy is he's been ready when called upon," Carlisle said. "I'm the one who's going to have to make the decision on who plays, and I'll live with those decisions.”

Beaubois said: "I don't think about anything else. I just try to play my game and help the team win."

It's the basketball fans of France who should be most excited.

Remembering that their team struggled in every department last summer in their Quarter-Final defeat to eventual champions Spain at the EuroBasket, including long-range shooting, one has to think that Beaubois is ready to contribute immediately to Les Bleus.

Last year with Cholet, while providing a constant spark for his team’s offense in the EuroChallenge and in the French league, Beaubois spoke to FIBA.com about putting on the French shirt one day.

"It is a goal that is close to my heart and if one day I am selected, I will do my best to help the French national team," he said.

Well, I have to say I've changed my mind a bit about France chances at WC if they would come up with all the players. Batum, Beaubois might make France stronger at perimeter game (as well De Colo, but he's still a question at that level) and Noah is really impressive big guy, one of the most promising players in NBA, IMO. Than again it's sad to hear that every single player is in doubt because he's playing in NBA.

    The flick from the future...

FRA – Rock-solid Pietrus has important year with France, Valencia

VALENCIA (2010 FIBA World Championship) - France drew the short straw and faced eventual champions and heavy favorites Spain in the Quarter-Finals of EuroBasket 2009, a confrontation Vincent Collet’s team lost 86-66 to fall out of medal contention.

With just that one defeat on their record in Poland, however, and the expected addition of players like Joakim Noah and Rodrigue Beaubois to the line-up, most people believe the French will be a force at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey and the years to come.

One of most important players for the France side in recent years has been the athletic and tenacious forward Florent Pietrus.

The high-flying 29-year-old has been a valuable man for Neven Spahija’s Power Electronics Valencia this season, helping the club reach the EuroCup Finals.

    Pietrus spoke to FIBA.com.

FIBA: Florent, if you erase that one defeat to Spain last year in Poland, France would have gone undefeated. So even though the team did not win a medal at the EuroBasket, expectations must be high going into the FIBA World Championship later this year in Turkey. Are those justified?

Florent Pietrus: Most of the teams are going to be waiting for us. We have to respond. We have a team with great players, but in the end, we have to compete together. We know that the public believe Spain and the USA will be favorites, but we’re going to try and do things our way, play our basketball. You never know. Maybe we’re going to have a great Championship.

FIBA: France won the silver medal at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney but didn’t qualify to play at the Athens Games four years later, or at the Beijing Games in 2008. Is that in the back of your mind as France travel to Turkey to face Spain, Lithuania, Canada, Lebanon and New Zealand in the Preliminary Round?

Florent Pietrus: The most important thing is for next year (2011) because this will be the European qualification for the Olympics. This summer is going to be like practice for us, but we’re going to be going for it (wins) in every game.

FIBA: Watching your Power Electronics Valencia team compete this year in Spain has been an inspiration. Why has this team been able to surpass expectations?

Florent Pietrus: We are a team. We are together in the good moments and the bad moments and that situation helps us grow up faster. We are together no matter what happens. Everyone supports each other.

FIBA: That would have been especially true in the EuroCup qualifying round victory over Dexia Mons-Hainaut, when you came back from a 15-point first-leg deficit in Belgium and won the second leg 79-61?

Florent Pietrus: Some teams cannot handle such a situation, but we did against Dexia. We had to play a great game to get into the ULEB (EuroCup).

FIBA: There was also that dramatic game against Barcelona, when Rafa Martinez hit a game-winning three-pointer at the buzzer on January 23.

Florent Pietrus: And Barcelona hadn’t lost any games and we beat them so it’s been good for us. But we have to keep going. We haven’t won anything yet.

FIBA: What would it mean for this the players in this team, and the city of Valencia, to win the EuroCup? You play Panellinios on April 17 in one Semi-Final and if you win that, you would take on the winner of Bizkaia Bilbao Basket’s clash with Alba Berlin for the title.

Florent Pietrus: It’s a dream. We’ve worked all year for this moment. It’s only two games for this title but we have to be ready for this big moment. It will be a big fight.

Speaking of which, do you know the status of Traore? Is he still interested in playing for Cote D'Ivoire? I know you have plenty of players who can replace him. Just curious about what team he's going to represent.

Default Parker Out of Turkey for France

Tony Parker of the San Antonio Spurs has decided not to represent France at the FIBA World Championship in Turkey.

A regular in the national team for several years, Parker, who turns 28 on May 17, wants to rest in order to be fresh for San Antonio's October training camp.

“I don't want to play on the national team this year, and that's because I played the last five summers,” he said.

“This year, I felt it a lot. I was tired all the time.

“I'd wake up in the morning, and I was tired. I had a lot of injuries, too, and it's time I got a break.”

Fortunately for France, there is no shortage of talent when it comes to their backcourt.

Explosive scorer Rodrigue Beaubois of Dallas, one of this year’s rookie sensations in the NBA, will be one of the guards in France’s preliminary squad.

A former player at Cholet, the 22-year-old Beaubois put his incredible talent on display on numerous occasions this year, including on March 27 when he scored 40 points in a victory over Golden State.

He ended up shooting 40.9% (45 for 110) from three-point range on the season.

Power Electronics Valencia’s Nando De Colo, who played a huge role in his team’s 2009-10 Eurocup title-winning campaign, and Le Mans’ Antoine Diot, were in last year’s EuroBasket squad.

Diot, in fact, was the key man for France when they beat Turkey in their first Classification Round game to seal a spot in Turkey.

He came off the bench and had 13 points, four assists and four rebounds to help the French, who had trailed by 19 points in the first half, win 80-68.

Parker has never played for France at an Olympics or a FIBA World Championship.

He was supposed to play in Japan four years ago but suffered a finger injury and pulled out of the tournament.

France will take on Spain, Lithuania, New Zealand, Canada and Lebanon in Group D Preliminary Round games.

^^^ I hate to be picky but was the smiley emoticon really necessary?

Tony Parker not participating is kind of a bad thing.
