HOUGHTON, Mich. - Junior Ali Haidar scored 35 points, one shy of his career-high, to lead the Michigan Tech men’s basketball team to an 84-72 win over Lake Superior State Saturday (Feb. 11). Haidar shot 11-of-16 (68-percent) from the floor and 11-of-12 (.917) from the free throw line. He also made two of his three 3-point attempts.

I felt he (Haidar) was in rhythm during practice this week,” said head coach Kevin Luke. “We didn’t put too much pressure on him, and we were able to get him involved early.

With the amazing performances that Ali Haidar is having in his final year with Michigan Tech. it would be a shame not to keep this thread updated.

Freshman Kyle Stankowski poured in 17 points shooting 7-of-11 from the field and made all three free throws.

MARSHALL, Minn. - Ali Haidar scored 32 points and Ben Stelzer added 22 to lead Michigan Tech to a 75-67 win at Southwest Minnesota State Thursday (Nov. 15).

The Mustangs started strong and built a nine point lead, its largest of the game, at the 10:41 mark. Stelzer made back-to-back 3-pointers and a pair of free throws to pull the Huskies within one point at 6:37. The Huskies entered halftime with a one point lead, 35-34.

Just like he did in the first half, Stelzer made back-to-back 3-pointers to kick-start a 17-7 run by the Huskies over the final five minutes. Tech's defense excelled during the run allowing a single 3-pointer from the field with Southwest's other four points coming from free throws.

"The changing point for us was the two threes in the first half by Stelzer," said Luke. "And then he followed with another pair in the second half. Our boys came back and played with poise in the second half."

Haidar finished with 14 rebounds to accompany his 32 points to finish with a double-double. The Windsor, Ont., native shot 13-of-19 from the field with three assists, one block and an assist.

Ali will definitely be a very valuable player for the Lebanese NT...Many Lebanese teams from now will be trying to contact him to sign him for next year

And with guys like Ali Haidar and Samer Ozeir I think Lebanon will have some very talented Forwards for the upcoming years to come... without also forgetting about the other young talented guys who play forward and are already playing in the Lebanese league like Bassel Bawji

Ur 100% right but hope they'll stay in a foreign league for a longer time, and hope the new fed would get us a good coach that would know how to manage such talents. In my opinion Bassel Bawji is under rated and he's a big player and the reason is GS plus Bassel's cockiness regarding the NT and how he reacted by not playing much minutes.

Yeah Ghassan really likes Ali and for sure will try his best to sign him with Champville next year.... I also heard though that Riyadi are also very interested and will try hard to sign him... It's still early though and I hope he can help his team keep winning and get a great result in the NCAA Division II.

But which league would Ali be able to sign for if he's playing in the second division of the NCAA? It's very difficult to get recognized these days and I think it will be very difficult for him to get offers to play in other leagues that are better than the current one in Lebanon... For me for example I was against when Ahmad Ibrahim left university after his freshman year at Rice to come back and play in Lebanon because I believe those extra few years in college would have helped him mature much more and be much better prepared to play if he was to come back and play in Lebanon... As for Ali Haidar since this is his senior and final year at university I don't know what are his options after he graduates this year but i'm sure the appreciation and even the money he might get to play in Lebanon might be much better than the options he might have.

    Romback Double-Double Secures Tech Win

CANTON, Ohio - Sophomore Phil Romback recorded his first career double-double (16 points, 11 rebounds) to lead the Michigan Tech men's basketball team to a 71-58 win at Malone to open GLIAC play Thursday (Nov. 29).

"We challenged Phil, and he has really stepped up," said head coach Kevin Luke. "To come out and score a double-double on the road in league play is a good night's work."

The Huskies slowly built a lead over the first half that culminated at 10 points, 29-19, by halftime. The Tech lead would grow to as many as 22 points in second half, but full court pressure from Malone caused numerous Tech turnovers. Tech, who shot 68-percent in the second half, out-scored Malone 42-39 over the final 20 minutes for the 13 point win.

Ali Haidar scored a team-high 22 points and junior Austin Armga added 15. Freshman Luke Heller, who was celebrating his 19th birthday, finished with four points for the first points of his career.

Isiah Elliott scored a game-high 24 points for the Pioneers.

The Huskies (3-1, 1-0) struggled from the free throw line shooting just 60-percent (15-25), but finished with a 36-30 lead in rebounds.
