"Fields of Gold" is a classic now
Here a version by Cliff Richard and Barry Gibb
This is probably the Chinese song that had generated the most language versions, thanks to a TV series that was #1 in at least a dozen Asian countries/territories in the early 1990s. You can see what the show is about in the first vid (short description: a black man in ancient China). The song now sounds a little "gay" and a bit old-fashioned but that was my childhood.
Original version: Mandarin
Cantonese (the pretty girl is best known for her softcore porn roles, but here it is a pleasant surprise... I could find half a dozen versions in Cantonese but I like hers the best)
Hokkien: http://xiyou.cntv.cn/v-6728a2ca-a5ae...e4f1f5c05.html
Thai:
Khmer:
Vietnamese:
Indonesian:
English version 1:
English version 2: (while it sounds like William Hung, this guy is actual the original singer of the Mandarin version in the first video... sometimes you need to put up with imperfect English when it's an Asian singer covering it... )
English version 3 with Cantonese + Mandarin by the same guy
English version 4 (be careful with this one lol):
It took me awhile to find all these, and I'm actually quite proud since I don't know any of the languages other than Chinese and English. I know from youtube comments that the show was also a huge hit in Burma but I can't find a Burmese version. I know from my Korean friend that the show also broke the rating record for highest rated foreign show in Korea, but there are no Korean versions that I can find.

aim low, score high
Been trying to find English versions of Chinese songs, but 1) not many exist and 2) not many good ones. Here's a very good English cover of a very "Chinese" song. (Not the best of Faye Wong, not even her song really, but because this was essentially her first performance in 6 years, millions watched it and this became the #1 song in China in no time.)
Chinese version by Faye Wong
English cover version by Danish band MLTR
Same version by a German guy playing Chapman stick
MAJOR FAIL English version (listen at own risk)
aim low, score high
Thanks Sinobball for these covers.
