    Default Semih Erden to NBA?

Boston Realizes Value of the Euro - Boston Herald, July 4, 2010, By Steve Bulpett

Semih Erden was in attendance for practice yesterday, but the proper transfer of paperwork prevented him from officially joining his summer league teammates with the Celtics [team stats]. He should be hanging around for the “winter league,” as well.

The Celts are in the process of signing the 7-footer to a one-year deal with an option for a second season.

Erden was the team’s second-round draft pick in 2008, the 60th and last selection overall. He’s continued to play in his native Turkey, and once he saw his chance to take a shot in the NBA, the soon-to-be 24-year-old was eager to make the move....
I'm a fan of Erden. He's a very solid player with a great body. Boston would do well to sign him, especially now that Rasheed Wallace is leaving.

As a Turkish, I can say that Semih Erden isn't good enough to play in NBA
    Impossible is nothing.

Hopefully this would be the year he comes to Boston. I remember Jiri Welsch and Dino Radja as noteable International players on the Celtics roster.

Semih Erden played for the Boston Celtics Summer League Game and despite limited minutes, he showed aggresiveness on challenging Byron Mullens and Serge Ibaka of the Oklahoma Thunder. It can also be noted that Erden is active on setting pics and being ready to catch and shoot. Too bad Lafayette lobbed the ball too many times to Jaycee Carroll and the other big men.

If you cared to read my posts pre-EC2009 and if you have a good enough memory, you'll remember I was bashing Tanjevic for choosing "that tree" for the NT. Well, I saw him live during the EC, and he made me eat my words. It looks like he can play at the highest European competitions. Still not sure about his chances with the Celtics, though.

Semih Erden got his first start last night:
Boston Team Report, Yahoo! Sports, December 10, 2010

    • C Semih Erden got his first NBA start Thursday, and he scored eight points in 18 minutes. He was clearly a liability on defense, but coach Doc Rivers started him because he wanted to balance out the rotation. He didn’t want the reserves to be too young.
He'll get better. Rookie big men are always bad defenders. Even a great player like Blake Griffin isn't playing good defense for LA. Erden needs a little time. Good offense, though.

In his second start, Semih Erden played 40 minutes, scored 10 points, 7 rebounds, and had 4 blocked shots to help Boston beat Charlotte. He played ten more minutes than the next "highest minute" guy (Rondo) and had an amazing +/- of 34!!!

Looks like his defensive effort was much, much better tonight:
Boston Beats Charlotte - December 11, 2010, by By MIKE CRANSTON, AP Sports

...Erden, the 7-footer from Turkey, helped the cause with 10 points, seven rebounds and four blocks while clogging the middle as Charlotte tried to drive.

“They’ll talk a lot about him in Turkey tonight,” [Ray] Allen said. “He deserves the credit because he played well for us.” ....

Nice to see Erden being given his chance to play and prove himself.. This is all good for him and the Celtics considering the nagging injuries to their big men "the 2 O'Neals" as well as Perkins.

Unfortunately Ray Allen was wrong, I didn't notice anybody talking. Partly because Erden is probably the most disliked active bball player in Turkey.

Yeah, Semih is surprisingly improving since 2009 summer, and especially when compared to other "promising" euros in crappy teams, he's doing a helluva job. But his ceiling is not that high. Hope he can be a solid back-up center for Celtics, or any other good team.

Why is that? Is he disliked to the extent that even Fener fans don't like him?
