German Talents in the USA 2010/11
With Lucca Staiger (Iowa State) having signed wit Alba Berlin, Nick Schneiders (USC Upstate) now playing for New Yorker Phantoms Braunschweig and Andy Büchert (Winthrop) signing with Eisbaeren Bremerhaven - all of the german pro league BBL - some new faces are following already well established Elias Harris:
Elias Harris (SG/SF/PF - University of Gonzaga / 6'8'')
Sensational freshman season, averaging 14,9 ppg., 7,1 rpg. in roughly 30 minutes in 34 games as a starter. Decided to stay at Gonzaga instead of declaring for the NBA draft, where he was listed as a late first rounder in many mock drafts.

Christian Standhardinger (SF/PF - University of Nebraska / 6'8'')
Played only half a season as a freshman due to his redshirt status. Had a hard time fitting into his new role at PF, since mainly playing SG/SF throughout his years in Germany, averaging 8,1ppg., 3,8 rpg. in about 15 minutes per game. Many experts predict a breakthrough season at Nebraska during his sophomore season.

Christopher Niemann (C - University of Nebraska / 6'11)
Sat out one year as a redshirt and was unfortunately forced to sit out the entire 09/10 season as well due to injury.
Will make his team debut with three years of eligibility left. Due to lack of size on the roster, Niemann may see quite some playing time along with Standhardinger.

Alex Schrempf (SG/SF - UCLA / 6'5'')
Son of former NBA star Detlef Schrempf still needs to find his way into the lineup at UCLA, where he hasn't seen any playing time in his freshman year. During summer, he played some solid games for the german junior NT. Will be interesting to observe if he can manage to get the coaches attention as a sophomore.

Going into his junior year at Cornell, finishing last season with 3 ppg. and 56,1% shooting from threepoint range.

Enosch Wolf (C/7'1''/Göttingen) has commited to join University of Connecticut after having received scholarship offers from Georgetown, Georgia Tech, Boston College and Oklahoma as well.
Niels Giffey (SG-SF/6'7''/Alba Berlin Juniors) is also joining University of Connecticut, turning down interested colleges like Louisville, Michigan, Gonzaga and UCLA.
Dennis Ogbe (SF/6'7''/Nürnberg) has joined Tennessee Tech for the upcoming season.
Mathis Moenninghoff (PG-SG/6'7''/Leverkusen) is joining Gonzaga for the upcoming season.
Marvin Adu (PF/6'8''/Essex County Junior College) has joined Prairie View A&M University.
Dennis Kramer (PF/6'10''), member of the german U18 NT, played highschool basketball in California last season, and is now playing for the University of San Diego.
Sebastian Koch (SF/6'8''/Arden Christ Highschool) has joined Elon University after winning back to back state titles with his highschool team. Sebastian is also a member of the german U18 NT.
Justin Raffington (PF-C/6'9''/Urspring) will be playing for the University of San Francisco this coming season.

Jarrelle Reischel 6'5" guard from Frankfurt,Germany plays 2010-2011 for Pt. Pleasant Beach High School in New Jersey as a senior.
Georgetown, Rutgers, Rice and West Virginia offered him a scholarship. He is going to decide soon where to play his college ball.

Enosch Wolf
The University of Connecticut Huskies have added 7'1 center Enosch Wolf to their roster.
Wolf will begin practicing with the team this upcoming Sunday and could make his NCAA Season debut in Monday when the Huskies play Coppin State.

Sadly the win means that they'll be on the opposite side of the bracket from Sarah Palin's own Wasilla Warriors.
The Urspringschule (the Urspring is a small river) is a protestant boarding school, located in Schelklingen, which is close to Ehingen (and Ulm). They created a basketball academy some years ago, which was incorporated into the boarding school. The basketball academy was recognized as an official basketball boarding school by the german basketball federation (DBB) in 2004.
The academy has a cooperation with a Pro B Team (3rd division) from Ehingen, which is called Ehingen/Urspringschule Steeples and where talented basketball academy players can start collecting experiences against pro opponents. This Pro B Team has a cooperation with Alba Berlin, just as the basketball academy. The U19 team is a member of the german U19 league (NBBL), where they are called "Team Alba Urspring", winning the national title in 2007, 2008 and 2010 (beating Alba Berlin in the final that year).
They're certainly the leading basketball program in Germany at this point.
The schools most prominent graduate at the moment should be Alba Berlins Lucca Staiger, who used to play for the Iowa State University in the NCAA.

HOUSTON (NCAA) - There was an international flavor to the University of Connecticut's NCAA Title triumph over Butler on Monday night.
Coming off the bench and playing 24 minutes for the Huskies in their 53-41 win over Butler was Niels Giffey.
A member of Germany's youth teams in recent years, Giffey had six rebounds and four points and the accomplishment didn’t go unnoticed back home.
"In the most important game of the season, he had a tremendous effort and made a real contribution to the victory," said Germany national team coach Dirk Bauermann.
"Niels has a lot of perspective and is one of the players with a great future in the national team."
Giffey, a native of Berlin, is expected to play for Germany at the U20 European Championship this summer, although Bauermann has not been shy about having college players in his senior squad.
Elias Harris, a power forward at Gonzaga, has been with Germany the past two summers and Lucca Staiger was also in the EuroBasket 2009 squad while a student/athlete at Iowa State.
Longtime Germany national team player Henrik Rodl had a prominent role for the University of North Carolina when the Tar Heels won the 1993 NCAA Title under FIBA Hall of Fame coach Dean Smith.
Enosch Wolf, a freshman center from Gottingen, is also a member of the UConn Huskies but did not play on Monday.
