    Default Referees in WC

Referees will play a huge part in the upcomming event of world basketball championship, so I guess they deserve a separate thead in this forum.

Fiba has announced the refs to the first stage groups:

    Awesome
I would love to see Lamonica refereeing a Lebanese NT match

I dedicate this thread to him

    http://forums.interbasket.net/f10/th...a-thread-3875/

Great to also see that our Lebanese Marwan Egho will be refereering in Group C for teams like Greece and Turkey.

I hope that the commisioner in that group being Israeli doesn't cause any issues though.

Yeey we get BRAZAUSKAS. Oh men he is such an awesome ref. Games where he is the ref are always great because he lets the guys play. I hope he refs against the USA, because then we might have a chance to not lose by blow out

It will be his farewell tournament, as he turned 50 this year. I hope he gets to judge in the final (if LTU NT won't make it there) as a reward for his spectacular career.

Yeah i agree. He should get some sort of function. Being the head supervisor, or teach refs how basketball should be whistled.

You always knew if he was the ref you'd get a fair chance no matter who you play or where.

Oh and on a side note, if you know the names of more then 5 refs and are not a player, you know you watch too much basketball

I should pay more attention to the good referees.

It's easy to follow the bad referees, like Lamonica, who is the only international referee that I know.

In the NBA, as in most Euro leagues, the referees control the action way too much. The referees become the focus of the fans. It happens in the NCAA, Major League Baseball, and in soccer. I think the referees in the NFL are actually pretty good, although I dislike football.

But there have to be some referees (perhaps this Brazauskas fellow) who are legitimately good referees.

In a book, they write they find a skeleton of [an] eagle and there is no fish. It means that the fish beat him and killed him, but he didn't let go." -- Donatas Motiejunas

i actually saw some of the games he ref'd before(on tv of course) i actually like his style

you are spot on the guy lets players play, it's a good style and i wish more people were this way without of course making the game so physical that ron artest is ready to rip someone's head off

Exactly...He always allows a physical game but not violent. his games never become a FT shooting contest nor is their ever tension on the verge of a fight.

You can't tech that, a ref has to have a good sense of the game, sadly most don't, but he did.

Maybe I missed most famous games of Lamonica, but I found him very normal ref every time I've seen him lately.

Basically, "soft refs" are more convenient for our team IMO. And how FT are bad thing? I would enjoy Kleiza and Gecevičius at the FT line any time
I have a feeling American refs (BRA, ARG, USA, CAN) prefer more physical BB.

    The flick from the future...

you surely don't have any chances to win that game if the other two refs will be Dovidavičius and Drabikovsky..

Cristiano Maranho is TERRIBLE. Every single brazilian league fan hate him.

I really cant understand why we´re not taking Pacheco or Renatinho instead.

    William Gene KENNEDY (USA)

Bill Kennedy is awesome... he's also an NBA ref, very very muscular. This summer he reffed his first Final game. Congrat Bill!

Anthony Jordan used to be one of the NBA refs but not now I guess.

Who was refereeing in todays game between Greece and Puerto Rico? I guess it was the first game in the championship, the outcome of which was decided by the officials.

the first game that was decided by officials???hahahaha omg im wondering if u have seen one quarter of this game...
the only false calls were the foul that wasnt given on Bourousis and the technical foul on Diamantides...
Plz watch a game before you say something other time.

Saw it, and I agree, that technical on Diamantidis was a joke. But not to call a foul on Bourousis for his wrestling move in a moment, when PUR was one shot away in the last minutes of the game is pretty much decisive step.

Edit. Not to mention, that PUR was given a technical foul for getting mad about it.

Overall they didn't favored us though imo. If you stay for a call in the end maybe. Over the course of the game i don't really think so, quite the opposite they were against us with a technical out of the blue in the first half. But that's my opinion...

I think Sashikas is right about the refs, but I don't think the favored one or another. But they had many bad calls, that's true. They also were quite bad yesterday, in the China-Greece game (half the travelling of the Chinese guards were not called)
