Thread: Greece and Serbia face ban from WC over friendly fight

  1. #41

    Default Punishment is necessary

On the basis of the video of the fight that has circulated widely, if I were FIBA's Baumann I would punish the following players:
Teodosic - first 3 games of WC
Fotsis - first 3 games of WC
Schortsianitis - first 3 games of WC
Keselj - first 2 games of WC
Krstic - first 5 games of WC
Tsartsaris - first 2 games of WC
Velickovic - first game of WC

And I would commend those players from both teams who tried to calm things down and risked their own safety to prevent further fighting.

That's it. Nothing happened then, and nothing will happen now. Maybe a few games' ban in next year's Eurobasket at most.

Agree with you, nothing happened then and won't happen now. They will probably punish two players, three maaybe. But not now, If it's now don't expect them to get more than 3 games suspention. I expect 2 games or maybe one. They will also probably fine the greek and serbian basktball federation and thats it.

FIBA has said no player will get punished. And I think its a good thing that both teams are in full power. Its a good thing for the WC...

Greek youngsters will have to look upon Greek national basketball players for role models not Serbs,Croats,Spanish etc etc.

As for your comment and the disgraceful photo that you posted that comes to prove what i was talking about from the beginning. This incident has nothing to do with Serbia or Greece. It has to do with Panathinaikos, the notorious Greek refs and Vasilakopoulos.

FIBA should dish out punishment after tournament, not before.

You can make fun as long as you like.
That will not change the reality though.
Yesterdays events were clear enough for everyone to realize how rotten Greek basketball is.

If a single individual needs to be targeted then Krstic should bare the brunt of the punishment since he threw the chair like a missle with the intent to harm someone. That made the fight go from bad to worst. Prehaps he should get fined heavily or suspended for three games. The rest? No more than a game or two, or a smaller fine than Krstic.

I'm not trying to marginalize what happend, but I think it's important not to penalize the teams too heavily before the WC. I certainly think the brawl was disgraceful, but I would hate to see Greece or Serbia handicapped to the point where it affects their performance in the tournament. I'm probably in the minority, but that's how I feel.

BTW: this is the second brawl of the summer. Albania and the United Arab Emirates got into it a few weeks back. I'm not sure how FIBA or each countries' federations handled the matter.

Krstic when his career is done should apply to WWF, plenty of opportunities to throw chairs there.

If you desperately seek to "ban" a Greek fan ( and no i do not support the PANethniki as your favorite newspaper declares ) then go and find the PANATHINAIKOS fans who verbally attacked Spanoulis and insulted him waving euros 2 days ago NOT at a game between Olympiacos and Panathinaikos but at a game of the NATIONAL team of Greece.

    OK "crazy green"??

    Have a nice day.

Fights at basketball games, as the club, as the representative level, all are, but not rare. Just last summer there were two almost identical examples ...

The first took place in preparation for the championship game of America between Mexico and Uruguay, when the severely beat Rommel Beck and Martin Osimani. Later, their conflict into a general brawl on the field, and the perpetrators were subsequently charged with two games not playing in official matches.

Another example is the friendly match between Italy and Canada, where Stephen Manćineli "stop down". He seems to be the pure peace, Aaron hit Donerkampa. Also, the conflict has escalated into a mass brawl.

Manćineli was fined two game suspension.

However, in both cases, FIBA reacted late and the penalties imposed in October, so Beck and duly played Osimani Championship of America, and Italy last summer did not participate in Evrobasketu in Poland, but it is, Manćineli would have been a part of.
    two games...ok,we can handle it,,

This is probably the first time in history where slow decision making by FIBA is actually a good thing

Bourousis wasn't registered on the player list for the game. So, Krstic's reaction is self-defence against an intruder who was pursuing him on the court.

Let's see what FIBA will say about that.

Well, since half of the youngsters u mentioned look up 2 Teodosic 4 being "brave"(when he is not swearing against greek mothers) and standing up against Panathinaikos and the system, I suppose we have 2 talk about every player in the brawl.
He is probably here 2 teach everybody what a real fan of Olympiacos looks like. And the blinded fans follow him!
No, it doesn't have 2 do with Panathinaikos, nor the notorious greek refs/scientists. It has 2 do with the sick views of some fans of my team. It has 2 do with "red and green glasses". It has 2 do with being able 2 face things with the slightest of objectivity.
One can support any team he likes. But Serbians support Serbia, Lithuanians support Lithuania, Americans support USA, Spaniards support Spain etc. The people of 23 countries support their countries. And u wanna suggest that the people of this one country that don't support their own NT r right and 23 r wrong. U won't find much support here.
Your time is up my time is now,

Nothing? Two players from Uruguay got suspended for 2 years and one Mexican for one year.I wouldn't call that nothing. That brawl wasn't worse than yesterdays by the way.Let's see if Fiba has the balls to punish Greeks and Serb stars the same way.
