Default Eighth Finals, Argentina vs. Brazil

    September, 7. Tuesday.
    Istanbul

Who will win the match between the south american rivals? There are no favorites between Brazil and Argentina, in any sports.

50-50 IMO. I don't even know, which of them would be better opponents for us in the quarter-finals (if we beat China).

It's a tossup, though I'm leaning towards Argentina due to experience. It should be a good game.

They are more talented. But are shorter, older and just have a so so bench.

We have to find a way to stop Scola and Delfino. Which means that Varejão and Alex Garcia must be in a good day.

Leandrinho Barbosa must attacks the basket every time he can to try to catch some fouls on Scola and go to the line more often.

Brzil's victory depends mostly on Leandrinho not shooting 3-pointers.

50-50 for me too. 100-0 in favor of Lithuanians against the luckiest NT in competition, China.
I expect Argentina-Lithuania in the quarters!

This is an interesting and exciting match up. These are the best teams from South America. Close game to call but I am choosing Brazil to win.

September 7, the day of the match, is the Independence day here in Brazil.

Brazil will need to defend very well. Argentinean players always have trouble defending Leandrinho, he is faster than all them together, so he needs to be agressive and forget about shooting his crazy 3pointers.

Stopping Scola is kind impossible, so Anderson Varejão and Splitter will need the do the best they can to make things harder for him and dominate the boards, since they are taller and stronger. And they still have Prigioni and Delfino, let's pray they are in a off night

Nice game, it will be fun to watch. Or not hahaha.

Argentina now have a time to relax..with Oberto and 4 day timeout for Scola,Prigioni and Delfino they will be much more strong opponent then today against Serbia.
Anyway,I think that Brasil will win.

I watched Argentina against Jordan and Serbia. They don't have a lot of options on offense, but they play good ofense, specially from the pick&roll. And Scola can decide one game alone. When he goes to the bench, Argentina has a lot of difficult to score. Brazil has to find a way to stop him.
    I go with Argentina.

In 2007 we lost for this same team, but without Nene and Varejao, now we have Varejao, he's the responsible to stop Scola.

If anyone asked me 2 years ago, I d say Argentina easily. However, in this tournament Argentina lacks their most important, core players like Ginobili and Nocioni.

I think this Brazil team is stronger than Argentina. Brazil's frontcourt Varejao and Splitter will make things very hard for Scola. Scola most probably will play the worst game of him in this tournament. Prigioni is a very good playmaker but not a score option for Argentina. Delfino can do some damage but Barbosa is going to damage Argentina more than that of Delfino does to Brazil.

I go along with the Brazil NT for this matchup.

Argentina has been a disappointment so far, even though They won most of the games, they still didn't convince me

What a game this will be! The team with the tournament's best player: Luis Scola (so far...) versus their neighbours who almost defeated the "best team" (on paper - USA).

I see the game being really close but the thing that will separate the two teams will be Luis Scola and his "MVP" type performance.

Brazil with a chance to firmly step out of Argentina's shadow. Shame one of these teams is going home in the round of 16.

If Brazil's bigs can somehow 'hold' Scola to even say 22 points 10 rebounds I think Brazil wins this game but if Scola continues to dominate scoring 30+ and shooting 60% then its Argentina.
Lets see what Varejao can do against him
