It's easy to say now, but really, Spain *with Gasol* is a better team than Greece is. Let's afront it. Greece it's at the level of Lithuania or Germany, but they have a superior mentatility that make them perform at the 120%. I was really impressed when they reached the final.

Spain without Gasol it's probably at the level of Greece, no more no less. Today's was just an anecdote. But with Gasol, right now, only Argentina (or an USA team prepared to compete, not to play an All Star) can defeat them.

Man, what can i say i really agree with you and it is time for someone to say it. I also thought three teams were one class higher than the others (Spain, Argentina, USA) and my team(Greece) was the best of all the other teams.

I just have to object on two points:

1) USA team with all its stars or just one of the best NBA teams in one class also higher than Spain or Argentina

2) Greece has not performed beyond its capabilities by reaching the 4 best teams. That is within its capabilities. By winning US did overcome them.

My friends, before the quarter finals I was listening to the Greek Radio. They said that we were probably the worst team out of the 4 participating. I didn't share their opinion then and I don't share it now. From the 4 teams there I think that USA has the most potential but they simply can't suit themselves to the international style when playing top teams. If they manage to that they will be the huge favorites.
I think that the other three teams are on the same level. People just keep underestimating Greece because of no NBAers. Still we are Euro Champs, we are 2nd in the world. I sincerely believe that our guards are the best in the international game.
Regarding the match with Spain we were simply not there. I can assume that this was due to a combination of reasons and Spain's attitude and defense were amazing but you won't score 47 points in an average day, regardless of the team you are facing.

I will tell you what I think and only time will tell:
If each duo played ten matches:
1) USA vs Greece 8/10 USA
2) Greece vs Spain (without Gasol) 7/10 Greece
3) Greece vs Spain (with Gasol) 5/10

If you sincerely think otherwise, I have your Euro Performance to back my thought. You ranked 4th and you lost both by Germany and France.

Finally, let us both cheer to a (not so new) rivalry... 2 young teams with a lot of future and some medals to show...

That looser mentality (looser medality? was it a mistake or a joke?) thing is funny.
That group of Spanish players, who have won the Junior WC in 1999, a bronze medal in the EC of 2001, a silver medal in the EC of 2003, semifinal in the EC of 2005 and gold medal in the 2006 WC have looser mentality because previous Spanish players couldn't win anything. It's funny.
Anyway I know what to say the next time Spain fails in the most importante game: our real players were not these. Our players were abduced before entering into the court.
The French players were abduced too in the last seconds of the France-Greece semifinal of 2005 EC, a player like Rigaudeau can't miss so many FT in a row. Or maybe the Greek players forced that misses in the FT line with their powerfuls minds, you know, the winner mentality and basket-balls that let you such strange things.

I know the Greek team had a bad day, but I also know the Spanish team played in the 1st half the most amazing defense I haver ever seen.
Such defense, hustle, intensity, fight, team spirit and basket-balls, like you say, made me into tears.
Anyway, about the previous Spanish teams that never won a EC: we weren't that good. It is more about lack of talent compared to the very best teams in Europe that a mentality issue.
In fact I still wonder how such a mediocre team like Spain had in the EC of 1999 could beat the Lithuania of Sabonis and the France of Rigaudeau in order to play the final of that championship.
All in all, I think the Spanish Baskteball NT has almost always performed on his standars, and most times (not always) they have been beaten it was against a more talented team. And most times (not always) they have beaten other teams in important tournaments it was against less talented teams.
I strongly believe these bastards of the Spanish football NT have contributed alot to that steryopte. They have always underperform and they give other spanish sportmen a bad reputation.

I wish all the luck to USA NT and hope they become better as a team. Whether we will win them again or not, is not something anyone in this forum can decide. After all you wont be in the court and neither will I be.

If you didnt like a certain tv channels coverage then feel free to call them and express your comments, they will be interested in them (or not). Greek NT is here, they had a golden medal in europe 2005 and a silver now in world level 2006. Our NT is young and ready for more, plus many more good players await for a chance to play in our NT if they happen to be called.

Spain is a great team as well. I agree we had a very very bad day something understandable for me after a hard game and the nature of that game we gave before the final.

But. I also agree with spanish posters here. Even if we were fine and with both minds and bodies on the court, we would probably still loose to that spain, just not in such a way. They played some of the best basketball i have ever seen, especially in first half.

As for US fans, and US NT, if they dont follow the path of arrogance they will surely become world's top again, since their talent pool is like the spanish the greek the argentinian and several other talent pools together.
