Spahija suspect for war crimes?

Fenerbahce's Croatian coach Never Spahija was called to testify before the County Court of Split on accusations of torturing Serb civilians and prisoners or wars during 1992 when the civil war in former Yugoslavia was raging on.

So far Spahija is testifying as a witness, but according to prosecutors charges could he brought upon him and the former Croatia National Team could become a suspect.

Spahija was a member of the Police Army in Sibenik. Already some members of the battalion have been prosecuted and arrested while others are being investigated too. The former Valencia coach was rpesent in the barracks in which systematic torture and abuse of twenty one Serbian paramilitary members and civilians took place.

According to the testimony of army policeman Rajko Zarkovic, Spahija was seen in the barracks, although he had no authority to be even present there, but did not see him abusing the Serbian war detainees.

so far only yelow press (including source novi list) publicited news. and acording to them he is witness for now, but could become suspect. on a nother yelow press index he says he had no thing with crimes and that he is only witness.

I confirm that Spahija beat the prisioners who were brought in from Nos Kalik. I was also present when he was beating brutally a prisioner in Šubić armery together with another army policeman. He beat him with his hands and legs, and he was cursing his "četnik mother"."

The other guy mentioned in this text, Mario Barisic, is a well known name in Croatian politic sphere. Since 2001 he was very active witnessing and giving informations about the treatment of war prisoners in Croatia during the war. It's kind of curios he never mentioned Spahija's name during those years, although Spahija was popular and public person. Suddenly Barisic and Petkovic can remember of every detail. It's not my aim to defend Spahija, and if he really was involved in war crimes he should be sentenced, but this is little strange.

Anyway, something i've been asking myself, if Spahija is such a badass, why didn't he used his experience on Luigi Lamonica.
