is sending Slaughter, Lanete, Dela Rosa, Abueva, Raymundo, Garcia, Ramos, (Tiu, Casio etc...) not enough?

BTW: are they really called SINAG? wow...

    lol
I don't think it's overkill...the Malaysians are really getting the exposure they need playing some tough teams in the Jones Cup and in Fiba-Asia...they are fast catching up and teams like Indonesia,Singapore and Thailand are not far behind..plus we need to continue the program after Wuhan.

I would like to see some new faces on the RP squad, also getting some Fil-Ams this early for Gilas ver.2 a.k.a Sinag would be great for us.Imagine if they could get Scuba Holt , Michael Williams , Brandon Rosser or maybe even Standhardinger to play for the RP team this early.I'd like to see more US Division 1 players on the squad.

The Malaysians won over UAE during Jones Cup, then over India recently in the still on going Fiba Asia Championship in Wuhan.

This is what the Malaysian Coach said:

“Our players are mentally prepared. They gained lots of experiences and confidences from William Jones Cup.” national head coach Goh Cheng Huat is happy with the confidence level of the players, “Let’s take this as an example; previously our players will get panic when facing the Philippines, but now they have erased the phobia and do realized that we are not far away from a minus-naturalized players Philippines team,” Coach Goh added, “this kind of mentality is important on carrying us to go further in this tournament.”

That's absurd. Philippines historically without a naturalized center has owned Malaysia so many times before with huge winning margin. While they luckily (tsamba) won in Jones Cup giving their head coach a confidence to boost publicity for their marked improvement (kuno).. there's no way malaysians can make a monumental upset against Philippines team A or B..not in 10 years

Will Thailand be able to compete in SEA games basketball? Didn't FIBA withdraw accreditation for their national basketball governing body?

Also, the statements by the Malaysian coach makes me laugh. I'm guessing he's basing his statements on his experiences with the Pinoy players in the ABL-- who are mostly guys who haven't made it to the PBA. I say if Coach Norman wants Marcus on the team, by all means take him but only play him if absolutely necessary.

how about if we let our current 16 under team play in sea games.... it doesn't matter if they lose... it will toughen them up... let us not care of the sea games gold.. let's make it a training field for the kids/boys and not as playing grounds of the men.

Actually that was his latest statements.
    There were other statements made.

After their game against the Philippines (during the William Jones Cup, their coach said:

"just played d best game in Jones cup coz we match them during first n second qtrs 13/16 & 21/21 score we done well on zone defense n able to attack on offense but only lost on 3 rd qtr 11/27 . 4th qtr we beat them 23/22 anyway if they will to played with only pinoy we can match them anytime now"

I think they consider ABL competition as high level.

    This is what he said:

“Through ABL (ASEAN Basketball League), I can see Thailand is a very strong squad with their local talents. Malaysia is on par with them, and Indonesia slightly better,” coach Goh also taking Singapore into the picture, “never underestimate Singapore too, their local talents were benefited by training under the Slingers and competing in the ABL.”

Meanwhile, coach Goh also feels that we shouldn’t be phobia when facing the Philippine. “Before I was involved in the ABL, I thought the Philippine was really great; but after 2 seasons of competing with them, I found that thing that make different between us and them is basically game experiences,” coach God said, “they have better local league and game exposure. Hopefully after knowing their strong point compare to our weak point, we are able to reduce the deficit and catch up with them.”

Malaysia shouldn't be taken lightly, they're giving Chinese Taipie a run for their money. 36 - 29 Chinese Taipie...2nd Qtr. 4 mins. remaining.

It's good to see Malaysia and Indonesia making their mark as a competitive team in on-going FIBA-Asia Championships in Wuhan.

However, I don't think there is a need for a Marcus Douthit in our SEA Games roster. Yes, having Marcus Douthit strengthens the Philippines' chances to win the gold medal; however, if looking at the big picture in terms of player development, it wouldn't help at all.

Sending our college players in the SEA Games would help them develop, learn, and discover the nuances of playing the international game at the senior men's level. That way, we are looking more towards the future and figure out who among the players will be slowly integrated to our elite men's team.

The thing with Malaysia and Indonesia is that they can be very competitive against us or against other teams, but as the game progresses, these teams (Malaysia and Indonesia) cannot keep up due to their lack of depth.

Speaking of Malaysia, the National Team is currently in Taiwan and participating in an Invitational Tourney for their SEA Games build-up.

    EDIT:

The Invitational Tourney is the 2011 Probation Cup Invitational Tournament

7 of the 9 teams that are participating are from Taiwan's SBL.
