    The so named 'CAMPEONATO CLASIFICATORIO CENTROBASKET MAYOR MASCULINO' started on Friday, April 1 in Costa Rica. In its 'Phase 1' three National teams will meet in Costa Rica in 'Group A' as follows:

    Friday, April 1 COSTA RICA VS EL SALVADOR
    Saturday, April 2 GUATEMALA VS EL SAVADOR
    Sunday, April 3 COSTA RICA VS GUATEMALA

    At the same time Nicaragua and Honduras will battle together in 'Group 2'. The first two teams of every group will advance to 'Phase 2-Semifinal', scheduled from April 8 to 10, in El Salvador. The best two teams of 'Phase 2' will advance to Final Phase, schedeuled for May 6 to May 8, in Cancun, Mexico, where will meet the first two classified in 2009, Mexico and Belice

    On Friday, April 1 night, Team Costa Rica opened the COCABA 2011 defeating, 85-55 El Salvador. With a good playing organization and a pressing defense, the 'Tricolor' started the game well, closing the first half ahead by 18 points, 49-31.
    This all went on in the second half, when the inside presence of Daniel Simmons (194-F/C-80) and Jeffney Anderson (208-C-83, college: Southern) made the difference. Coach Luis Blanco gave sone playing tim e to reserve players too, but the advantage grew up the same. At the end, Henry Martinez (186-G/F-75) was the top scorer in Costa Rica with 16 points, while the game top scorer was Julio Mancia (202-C-80), with 19 in losing effort

    Presumably they're holding the finals in May to make it harder for Belize to bring in overseas-based players?

    El Salvador beat Guatemala 76-57 in the second game.

    Good question. In the past few years, I don't think Belize has been that great as a national team, but they haven't had a chance to show off their players like Pilacio and Jordan. They should consistently be the best and now that they're playing, maybe the other teams don't want to see their best players returning from Europe.

    Walken, thanks for posting CR's roster. It's nice to see some turnover. They still have Martinez, their best player, but they're bringing in some younger players, which they need.

    On Saturday, April 2, night, Team El Salvador completed a great performing at the 'Tennis Club Gym' of San Jose, Costa Rica, defeating Guatemala, 76-57, claiming the qualification to the 'Phase 2' of COCABA Championship. Head Coach Domingo Torres sent on the court a starting five made of Miguel Banos (186-F/C-84), Salvador Bandek (181-G-78), Jose Araujo (186-G-87), James Valladares (205-F/C-89) and Julio Mancia (202-C-80), and immediately the things went better than in game vs. Costa Rica, with Salvadorean almost everytime ahead in the score. The good work in defense and in the paint from Valladares, Araujo and Mancia was very important, Salvador Bandek was the game top scorer at 19 points, Jose Araujo added 19 he too, James Valladares 15. Guatemala was led by Ricardo Amaya (191-G-84, agency: Prossin Sports Management) and Benjamn Villeda, with 13 points each.

    Team Costa Rica clearly defeated, 66-46 yesterday night Guatemala, advancing to the second phase of COCABA Championship together to El Salvador. Guatemala NT was dominated till the first minutes of the game, abnd the first half ended 35-18 for the home team. The best performers were Henry Martinez (186-G/F-75), with 15 points, Gabriel Quesada (198-C-85), with 12 in Costa Rica, Ricardo Amaya (191-G-84, agency: Prossin Sports Management) with 14, and Edwin Rodriguez (198-F/C-88) with 12 in Guatemala.
    Both Costa Rica and El Salvador advance to 'Phase 2' of the competition, when will meet Nicaragua and Honduras. Instead, Guatemala cames back home with two heavy losses, and has to wait till 2013 for a redemption

    The first round of games of the second leg of COCABA Championship. fabourite team Costa Rica clearly defated Nicaragua, 83-65. The game best performer was Rohel Wilson (197-F/C-89), with 22 points, followed by Daniel Simmons (194-F/C-80).
    In the first game of the day, El Salvador had defeated Honduras, 64-55, despite a good start from Hoduras, that won the first quarter, 21-17, led by towering center Pedro Salazar (204-C-72), a well-known veteran. Pointing on a strong defense and on a faster offensive ga,e El Salvador managed to come back and to surpass the opponents during the second half, claiming a very important win. Julio Mancia (202-C-80) and Oscar Rivera (190-F-80) led the way with 16 points apiece, while Salazar ended the gaem at the top scoer, with 21 points. Alvin Cacho (87) added 10 at the losing side

    Costa Rica sweeps COCABA Phase 2 - Apr 11, 2011 (by Gianni Pascucci)
    After defeating Nicaragua in Day 1 and then Honduras, 67-40 in Day 2, Team Costa Rica ended the second leg of COCABA Championship undefeated, thanks to the win, 63-60 over home team El Salvador yesterday night. The game was very close, because El Salvador was in strong need of a win to stay in COCABA race, after the unexpected loss suffered on saturday night by Nicaragua, 66-70.

    A winning rally in the last three minutes of game allowed Team Nicaragua to claim the win, 70-66 over home team El Salvador in Day 2 of the second leg of COCABA Championship in San Salvador on Saturday, April 9. Walter Roberts was the man of the game for Nicaragua, with 23 points. Salvador Bandek, Julio Mancia and Oscar Rivera were the best at the losing side, but it wasn' t enough. El Salvador is now risking to be eliminated from teh competition.

    Nicaragua advances to COCABA Final Four - Apr 13, 2011 (by Gianni Pascucci)
    Team Nicaragua completed a successful campaign in San Salvador, advancing to COCABA Final Four at the end of three days of play. After falling to favourite team Costa Rica, 83-65 in Day 1, the team coached by Angel Mallona upset home team El Salvador, 70-66 in Day 2, with Walter Roberts (188-F-85) leading the way, and then defeated Honduras in the decisive Day 3, at the end of a very close game, who needed of an OT to find the winner.

    The final standings of COCABA Phase 2-Semifinal are as follows:
    1. Costa Rica 3-0
    2. Nicaragua 2-1
    3. El Salvador 1-2
    4. Honduras 0-3
