The Brazilian selection is in Mérida (Mex) for the final trainings and on June 11 will meet Mexican team in a friendly game.

Brazilian team appears to be very young, as 9 players are 15 yrs or under.

Thanks for the updates, Carlo. Obviously I know nothing about any basketball players under the age of 18, but I look forward to seeing which of these names makes a splash.

With a few good games, some of these young ladies can get scholarships and plenty of attention from their national federations and leagues!!

Just for curiosity, here's an image of the Venezuelan team with names, from the Argentina site.

Heh, their plan to avoid massively lopsided games by putting all the weakest teams in the group with Canada backfired.

I watched the first half of the Argentina-Venezuela game on my phone while waiting for a flight (yay technology), and I don't think the US has much to fear from either of those teams.

Arg-Ven was a strange game, with Argentinians dominating in the first half while after the intermission it was exactly the opposite.
For what I could see, a lot of running and good will by the players but also many turnovers and bad shooting, and yes, I agree USA team shouldn't fear both teams at all .
I read that USA defeated a strong Brazilian team 71-54, after trailing by three at the first half. Super performance by Mercedes Russell and all USA players scored except one, see also:

Followed just for fun most of the Canada-Guatemala game (?)...well Canadians are big, quick and talented, let's see them vs more qualified teams...I especially liked Nurse, Wolfram and Orum but also some others were good (Roger, Jardine, twin sisters Caron-Goudreau, etc).

Becca Greenwell also had some sizeable contributions for the USA rally against Brazil. Greenwell finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds.
    Draft Wishlist:
    PG Michael Carter-Williams / 21 yrs. old / 6'5
    PF Livio Jean-Charles / 19 yrs. old / 6'9

US had trouble getting the ball inside consistently in the first half, and as you can see from the shot chart on the live stats (http://live.fibaeurope.com/www/Game....=4&gameID=8702), there is very little green more than 6 feet from the basket. In the second half they did a better job. At some point they need to hit threes.

Janeth Arcain looks to be doing a nice job with Brazil and from what I saw yesterday they should win the next two games.

Epic collapse by Mexico in the last game, they led 33-12 in the second quarter and were outscored 55-21 the rest of the game.

Two Puertorico players were freshmen in the past season at Nazareth, NYC, the HS coached by Apache Paschall.
They are Chelsea Robinson (6-1 or 6-2) and Sofia Roma (6-2), both F/C.
Robinson scored 10pts and grabbed 8 rebs in the first game vs Mexico, while Roma had little play and recorded only 3rebs, 2 asst and 1 bs.
Both players were teammates at Nazareth Kingsmen with freshmen sensation Bianca Cuevas.

    Canada 112 Gautemala 17

Cheyanne Roger lead the Canadian Girls with 16 points and 9 rebounds. Roger was among the seven players to reach double figure scoring.

    Day 2
    Brazil 86 Venezuela 47
    Canada 80 Puerto Rico 66
    USA 82 Argentina 46
    Mexico 111 Guatemala 28

Canada and Puerto Rico combined for 68 fouls.

US again took a while to get started...taking way too many outside shots but fortunately they grabbed 41 offensive rebounds. Jannah Tucker with one of the strangest stat lines I've seen for a guard. 1-13 from the field and 7 turnovers, but 15 rebounds.

In the USA team, Rebecca Greenwell had a huge double-double (22pts, 11reb plus 5st) but hers and the squad's shooting has to be adjusted. Too many turnovers by some of the USA team players as well.
Other d-d was recorded by Stephanie Mavunga (12 & 12).
Kaela Davis dnp due to a sore ankle and she's listed day-by-day (source USAB).
Watched Brazil-Venezuela, it seems that Venezuelan team plays well one half of the game only, then it disappears..it was so in the first half of the narrow win with Argentina, yesterday they fell asleep in the second half and Brazil cruised to an easy win. In the Brazilian team Izabella Sangalli (again) and Kananda Benedicto (# 4) were really excellent.
Before my tv streaming went black out I was able to follow the first half of Canada-Puertorico. The Canadian team wasn't so impressive in this first part of the game and Puertorico was quick and executing well with some of its players (Leon and Penzo) but was very weak with its big players. Kia Nurse (Canada) is one of the best PG in the tourney.

Krystal Luciano, Puertorico, is a "veteran" of the U16 Fiba Americas...she was already playing for her country in the 2009 first tournament. At that time she was listed 13y and finished with 3.0ppg.
Another Puertorican player, forward Sidney Santos, a member of the 2009 team (averaging 5.6ppg) would have played this year as well, but she tore an ACL early in Nov 2010 while training as a freshman at her HS Geneva IL, missing the entire season. In the same HS has played as a junior her sister Ashley, who also participated to the 2009 U16 Fiba Americas.
Both sisters Santos played for Puertorico in the 2010 U18 Fiba Americas.

    Day 3
    USA 114 Venezuela 32
Puerto Rico 62 Guatemala 5 (five)
    Brazil 56 Argentina 45
    Canada 79 Mexico 30

Much better from the US today. Hoping for the same kind of score against Puerto Rico tomorrow.

Watched USA-Ven and I've to say American girls played really outstanding as a team, good in defense and in shooting, always tuned up and focused from start to finish (except the initial minutes of the last quarter, when they were 94-19).
I was especially impressed by #6 Harper, #7 Davis (but with some ups and downs), #8 Greenwell, #9 Tucker (had some huge threes), #12 Mavunga and #13 Reimer (both very strong), #14 Russell and #15 White (maybe the best of 2014 class).

What is the English word "five" supposed to mean?

Too many blowouts; I think they need to establish 2 divisions.

    USA 99 Puerto Rico 51
    Brazil 56 Canada 35

    Venezuela 87 Guatemala 20
    Argentina 62 Mexico 57

Is anyone surprised by the Group B sweep? This might be the closest Puerto Rico has ever come against the US in a junior women's game, it was 57-18 at halftime so the US must have eased up. PR and Canada for the third WC spot.

Really stunned how Canada was knocked-out by Brazil, being held to a miserable 35 points !
This U16 NT seems to be much better than the 2009 U16 and shows a very good collective play as well as an excellent key player in Izabella Sangalli.

Brazilian women's game in general has improved a lot and yesterday was a triumphant day for them at all levels (Seniors beat Australia and U19NT defeated China in France).

USA deservedly won the gold in a replay with Brazil (73-40, first half 40-18). It was an excellent team's effort by the American girls, who had 4 players scoring in double digit and Mercedes Russell recording another double-double.
Izabella Frederico Sangalli (Br) was the top scorer of the tournament and was named co-MVP with Rebecca Greenwell.
From USA team, Greenwell and Mercedes Russell imo were the best players.
Canada earned the bronze vs Puertorico and the qualification to the 2012 U17 World's.
Very fine performance by Argentina vs Venezuela for the 5th place. Had Argentinian team be placed in a different group, it probably would have reached a better placement.
The results of the semis and the repeat of the games in the final day demonstrated how unbalanced were the preliminary groups.
