He needs to at least get signed with a D-League team for the next conference.
Ronald Pascual, together with Greg Slaughter and Calvin Abueva, are already 23 years old. All three will be turning 24 years in 2012. Ronald has another playing year left for San Sebastian in the NCAA.

SMC group (Petron, Ginebra, Bmeg) obviously are looking at Fajardo.
MVP group (TnT, Meralco) eyeing Ramos, Hodge, Ellis.
Lina group (Barako Bull, Air21) considering Abueva, Marcelo.
Alaska could opt for Monfort or even Alvarez (understudy to LA) and a Fil-for big man.
Powerade will get a Fil-for big man.

Looks like the future will be: SMC - Fajardo+Parks, MVP - Slaughter+Ravena

After a botched stint with SMB, I last heard from his Twitter that he was contemplating an offer from Reno in the NBA D League.

I believe in ABL rules they only allowed 1 fil foreigner, SMB choose Banchero and Deutchmann was cut.

I highly doubt that. Deutchman is a way more versatile player than Banchero, who is still injured, so that wouldnt make sense at all.

pretty sure this list will be cut to half by the time draft application time comes...who are all those fil-fors? remember that they have to play in the dleague for 2 conferences in order for them to apply for the draft...or represent the country while playing for the national team, not sure if abl counts...but afaik only banchero is playing the abl. a local player needs a conference too. also, pascual and sanggalang both have at least a couple more years of eligibility in baste same with greg in ateneo.

Bottomline is the top rookies for this year will likely end up with the rich teams anyway before the season ends. So what's the purpose of drafting rookies? To sell them to the highest bidders?

I'd go for 12 quality and fully independent teams. Having 20 teams in which half is owned by two giant franchises is detrimental to the league.

so yousef taha of mapua is joining the 2012 draft...

    http://www.philstar.com/thedeanscorn...bcategoryid=69

Espiritu and Manotoc said their approach is different from other sports agents. “We love and play sports ourselves,” said Manotoc. “I used to play competitive golf. I box. Marvin and I play pick-up ball with Japeth, Julius and other guys. In the coming draft, we’ll be representing 6-8 Yousef Taha, a Filipino-Jordanian from Mapua, and Fil-Am Jason Deutchman of San Diego State.”

Yes that's the reality of it. Until we see a ROS and Alaska again, who are ultra-competitive franchise despite the odds (being the "small market" teams and "poor" teams) then you can expect the Air 21's and BB's abusing the perks of being a PBA franchise.

^ Exactly, that's why I am eager to see a new fully independent ball club like Phoenix Petroleum or Harbour Centre join the PBA in the near future. And not conduit teams like Shopinas and Barako Bull, which are a disgrace to the PBA.

The purpose of the rookie draft is to bring balance to the league. So that teams that ranked low in the previous season will be able to keep pace with the stronger teams by bringing in new players. Unfortunately, the purpose of the draft is defeated when teams like Shopinas and Barako eventually trade away their rookies to the highest bidders even before the season ends in exchange for fringe players and a lot of cash. So to cut the long story short, strong teams become stronger while the weaker teams remain weak.

The future for Barako, for instance, looks bright when it drafted promising rookies Allein Maliksi and Dylan Ababou. But just like many expected, those two players were shipped out just after one conference. And this trend will likely continue in future seasons.

^^ i'm quite happy that the word "quality" is used when dreaming of additional teams in the PBA. i only watch the playoffs and I might stop watching altogether if there are more than 1 shopinas quality team in the league. PBA wont miss me anyway.

MVP Vic Manuel ready for PBA

MANILA, Philippines—By this time, there’s no doubt he’s primed for the big league.

Vic Manuel, the unassuming but hardworking Cebuana Lhuillier forward, finally found the confidence to join this year’s PBA Rookie Draft after copping another individual honor.

Winning isn’t new for the 24-year-old Manuel, but it’s only now that he declared his intention to join the pros after capturing the Most Valuable Player award in the PBA D-League Aspirants Cup Tuesday.

“I’ve decided to turn pro after this season,” Manuel said in Filipino. “I hope someone will give me a chance in the pros.”

Manuel averaged 15.9 points and 8.3 rebounds to help power the Gems to a semifinal finish this conference.

“There were high expectations for us to win the championship,” said Manuel. “Next conference, I’ll just try my best again.”

In 2010, a relatively unknown Manuel clinched the MVP plum in the Philippine Basketball League (PBL).

Although many convinced him to jump to the pros while his name remained hot in the amateurs, Manuel opted to play his final year of eligibility with the Philippine School of Business Administration.

His decision didn’t go for naught.

Just last October, Manuel captured another MVP plum after powering the Jaguars to their first championship in seven years in the Universities and Colleges Athletic Association (Ucaa).
