whichever team who gets Ronald Pascual is making a great steal. Of the Pinatubo Trio, he is the most ripe for the PBA as he could easily adjust in any system and contribute right away. He does not mind being in the background but he is very much capable of making an explosion.

Fajardo joins PBA draft, looms as top pick; Abueva, Pascual also in
    Rey Joble, InterAKTV · Monday, July 30, 2012 · 7:40 pm

Days before the application deadline for the PBA draft, top talents are throwing their hats into the ring.

Junemar Fajardo, a mobile 6-foot-10 center who spent the past season with the San Miguel Beermen in the ASEAN Basketball League, is the latest big name to join the draft.

The former University of Cebu slotman joins a crack list of homegrown talents that include San Sebastian stars Calvin Abueva and Ronald Pascual former SMART-Gilas standouts JR Cawaling and Aldrech Ramos from FEU.

Earlier, top Filipino-American prospects also joined the prospects’ list, including Cliff Hodge and Chris Ellis of NLEX and Alex Mallari and Keith Jensen of Big Chill.

Petron, which is also owned by the same San Miguel Corporation that bankrolls the Beermen, owns the No. 1 pick after a previous trade with Air 21, and will use it on Fajardo. SMC executive Noli Eala calls the choice of Fajardo a “no-brainer”.

“Absolutely. He’s our man,” Eala wrote in a text message to InterAKTV.

Alaska owns the second pick, while Petron also owns the third choice that was originally from Barako Bull. Meralco, Barako Bull (from Petron), Barangay Ginebra (from Powerade), Rain or Shine, Ginebra again, B-MEG, and the new Mikee Romero-owned team that bought the Powerade franchise complete the first round.

he's 1st round material but his recent ACL injury (and a very deep draft class) might make him fall in the 2nd round...

Pascual appears to be injury prone. He had 3 acl injuries and 2 on the same knee already. I hope that don't scare teams off..

from what I know Jon is a Filipino-Canadian born and raised in Toronto, his name was not among the 12 players listed as those who made the July 6 application deadline for Fil-Foreigners.

He just celebrated his birthday a few days ago and heard he'll be headed back to Toronto, no word if its for good or not.

Talent-laden PBA rookie batch bound to keep teams busy
    From the wires
    July 31, 2012, 02:25 pm

Fil-Am Cliff Hodge, left, Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel are just some of the players who should go in the early rounds of the August 19 rookie draft. Jerome Ascano

A BIG man full of potential, the reigning king of the NCAA, the PBA D-League MVP, a former Smart Gilas-Pilipinas training pool member, and a slew of talented Fil-Ams comprise the field of 61 aspirants who have so far applied for the PBA Annual Draft set three weeks from now at the Robinsons Midtown Manila.

Cebuano June Mar Fajardo added a spice of thrill in the August 19 event when he formally submitted his papers at the PBA office on Monday and joined a talented draft pool that already included San Sebastian stalwart Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel, recipients of the MVP award in the NCAA and D-League, respectively, one-time national player Aldrech Ramos and foreign-born players Chris Ellis, Cliff Hodge, Jason Deutchman, Charles Keith Jensen, and Alex Mallari.

Deadline for local players wishing to join the league’s first formal activity for its 38th season is on Friday.

Air21 owns this year’s top overall pick, although the rights have since been traded to Petron. And the Boosters have not been reticent about their fondness for the 6-10 Fajardo, the 22-year-old who played for the San Miguel Beermen in the Asean Basketball League.

Fajardo, born in Compostela, Cebu, has been the dominant big man down South the past four years, winning two MVP titles and steering the University of Cebu Webmasters to back-to-back championships in the Cebu Schools Athletic Foundation Inc. or more popularly known as Cesafi.

He once rivaled fellow big man Greg Slaughter of the University of the Visayas, until the Fil-Am center went to the Big City and transferred to Ateneo.

But this year’s draft is more than just about the Fajardos, Abuevas, Manuels, and the Hodges.

Other familiar names include Ronald Pascual, who along with Abueva and Ian Sangalang form the Stags’ dreaded `Big Three,’ big man Dave Marcelo who played a key role in San Beda’s back-to-back NCAA championships, Jewel Ponferada, Eman Monfort of four-time UAAP title holder Ateneo, former Far Eastern University gunner JR Cawaling, and the Adamson quartet of Lester Alvarez, Janus Lozada, Jerick Canada, and Jan Colina.

Then there’s also the second generation of players such as Raymond Austria, Paul Gonzalgo, Danilo Pribhdas Jr., and Paul Zamar.

All rookie aspirants will undergo the regular biometrics procedure on August 15, before the league issues the final list of candidates on August 16.

Powerade used last year’s no. 1 overall pick on JV Casio, who lost out to no. 2 Paul Lee of Rain or Shine for the coveted Rookie of the Year title in the recent Annual Leo Awards

I'd say Hodge 'cause he's more of an impact player than Ellis. Or, Luigi Trillo can troll us and get his boy Vic Manuel

Try to fill in the blanks, from the current buzz below:

    1. Air21 Express (to Petron Blaze Boosters) - Fajardo, no doubt about it. How bad did they want the first pick? In case Alaska won the lottery, Petron was willing to give up the second and third picks for the top pick.

    2. Alaska Aces – They are going for Hodge

    3. Barako Bull Energy (to Petron Blaze Boosters) – Abueva

    4. Meralco Bolts -

    5. Petron Blaze Boosters (to Barako Bull Energy) - if Tiu applies and is still available, then they will go for him. They can play Tiu 2 ways - as a vital piece in their PG/SG rotation or as a trade bait. If not, as they need to fill up their PG/SG slot, they'll most likely go for Mallari.

    6. Powerade Tigers (to Barangay Ginebra Kings) -
    7. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters -
    8. Barangay Ginebra Kings -
    9. B-MEG Llamados -
    10. Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters (to Powerade Tigers) -

Other potential first-rounders: Chris Ellis, Aldrech Ramos, Vic Manuel, Dave Marcelo, Kelly Nabong, Keith Jensen

    2nd Round

    1. Air21 Express - Need a big man, so either Marcelo or Ramos, whoever is still available. If not, probably Deutchman?
    2. Alaska Aces
    3. Barako Bull Energy - Seriously considering Monfort if no other guard is available.
    4. Meralco Bolts
    5. Petron Blaze Boosters
    6. Powerade Tigers
    7. Rain or Shine Elasto Painters
    8. Barangay Ginebra Kings
    9. B-MEG Llamados
    10. Talk 'N Text Tropang Texters

sorry but no way is hodge an impact player, the guy is undersized for the 4 spot... though extremely hardworking he doesnt have the skill to slide to 3 or 2 spot. Ellis on the other hand is the ideal 2 or 3 player...the guy can shoot, handle and can dunk during games...both however are not an impact type player...

players to watch and ready for the pros for me are.....abueva ( after decades of not having a one man wrecking crew ala lim, caidic, jarencio, alvin, paras) in the collegiate ranks)here comes the beast! Ultra physical and just so entertaining to watch! Pang ginebra ito! , ronald pascual ( needs 1 conference to adjust because of injury), Paul Zamar ( supplementary player who is very smart), Sangalang, mallari ( versatile and physical), ellis, hodge, monfort.....

Fully agree. But it seems there's something being "cooked" right now which might lead to this decision.
