Hmmm...didn't know Ian Sangalang was already eligible. Anyone know if he has applied yet? Thanks!

yup, according to AKTV's data, he's only 20 now. Think he'd go the same time as RR Garcia

Ellis reminds me of John Arigo although more explosive and more athletic.

I do feel Luigi is torn between Hodge and Abueva.

Even though Hodge is really a very good basketball player, he is not like Abueva who could literally carry or bury his team.

Even with the bad things that Calvin brings, he is like former Stag and also former Alaska player Bong Alvarez, he brings excitement to the game which brings in the fans and his detractors to watch the Alaska games if ever.

If ever this could be an opportunity for Trillo to finally drop the complicated triangle offense and adopt the free-wheeling offense where Abueva can thrive and set loose the true game of Tenorio.

Well Ian like RR were part of the 2008 U18 Nokia Boys National Team of Franz Pumaren together with Norbert Torres of La Salle, Kyle Pascual of San Beda, Fil-Canadian Matthew Wright, and former Green Archer Sam Marata among others. At most they would be 22 years old which is below the floor age limit set by the PBA of 23 year of age.

And yes, Sangalang will be turning 21 years old as he was born December 16, 1991 as per documents submitted to FIBA-Asia.

He is younger than Abueva and Ronald Pascual even though they started together on San Sebastian at NCAA together, few remember that Ronald and Calvin were originally intended for FEU and actually played for the Tamaraws Team B.

Yes. Abueva can bring the spark needed by any team specially if he will be picked by Alaska however, this will have a huge impact in making the Alaska's team offense work. I really think that Chris Ellis will be a better fit to the team. It's time to find a replacement to their former players like Duremdes and Cariaso who are also good team player. Tony Dela Cruz is slowing down. Baguio is no longer as potent as he used to be. Cablay have lost his spring. Chris Ellis will definitely play a key role at #2 and 3 position.

But there was an issue pointed out by nardy that Abueva finds it hard to follow offensive patterns. And we all know how Alaska plays.

They still employ the triangle. Maybe more free flowing but still they will live and die with the triangle.

I don't think the problem will be Alaska's offensive patterns .

My bro told me back when Luigi was still coaching Adamson, he would pump up his players during timeouts by telling them "Guys, reach deep inside yourselves to find the strength to make that final push" and guys like Tagupa, Abadia, Poloyapoy, and Hugnaton would look at each other wide-eyed, as if asking "ha? ano daw?"

don't worry if Luigi's plans for his staff comes true, Alex Compton will be there to translate what he is saying then there's Charles Tiu who'll tweet it. Then Lolo Aric will talk to Abueva in Kapangpangan to be sure. Ayus! hahaha!

    Tiu Headlines Coming PBA Draft
    By WAYLON GALVEZ
    July 31, 2012, 7:59pm

MANILA, Philippines — With the vast businesses that include a bank, a hotel and a high-end resort in Tagaytay, Chris Tiu can very well afford a good life.

But the former Ateneo King Eagle is ready to exchange that with the rough and tumble life of a professional basketball player.

And that will be very soon.

“Basketball is still my passion and I still want to compete in a high level. And I can only do that in the PBA, where the best players in the country are playing. It’s a challenge, so it’s something I look forward to. It’s something that excites me,” said Tiu.

After passing up last year, Tiu, also a former Smart-Gilas Pilipinas stalwart, is expected to join the PBA Rookie Draft set Aug. 19, saying: “It’s now or never.”

Though he has yet to submit his application, his pronouncements indicate that he will join make his decision today.

Deadline for local players wishing to join the league’s first formal activity for its 38th season is on Aug. 3.

“But at the end of the day, it’s what in my heart. And of course, I’m a spiritual person, the plans of the Lord for me. If it’s His will, it will happen,” added Tiu.

The family of Tiu reportedly owns Discovery Hotel in Ortigas and has a stake at Sterling Bank and Tagaytay Highlands.

He had a chance last year to join the draft but his commitment to the national team prevented him from playing in the big league.

With his marketing appeal, teams are likely to jockey for prime position to get his services.

According to the 6-foot-1 Tiu, who is also a TV host and runs several businesses, if indeed he decides to join the PBA, he will give his all to the team that will pick him, just like when he played to the Nationals.

“If I choose to do something, I always make sure that I’m committed to it. I proved that when I was with Gilas,” he said.

The deadline for local players hoping to join the league’s first formal activity for its 38th season is on Friday (Aug. 3), while the annual Rookie Draft is scheduled August 19 at the Robinson’s Place in Ermita Manila.

So far, the list of aspirants is impressive as it includes 6-foot-9 Cebuano Junmar Fajardo, the latest to formalize an entry, San Sebastian’s Calvin Abueva and Vic Manuel, MVP of the NCAA and PBA D-League, respectively, former Gilas player Aldrech Ramos, as well as foreign-bred players Chris Ellis, Cliff Hodge, Jason Deutchman, Charles Keith Jensen and Alex Mallari.

Air21 owns this year’s top overall pick, although the rights have since been traded to Petron. The Boosters have already expressed their interest on the 22-year-old Fajardo, who played for San Miguel Beermen in the ASEAN Basketball League.

Other names in the list are Ronald Pascual, Dave Marcelo, Jewel Ponferada, Eman Monfort, JR Cawaling, Lester Alvarez, Janus Lozada, Jerick Canada, Jan Colina, Raymond Austria, Paul Gonzalgo, Danilo Pribhdas Jr., and Paul Zamar.

All rookie aspirants will undergo the regular biometrics procedure on Aug. 15, before the league issues the final list of candidates on Aug. 16.

they were at Team B and there is no assurance they'll be elevated the following year so instead they transferred in 2008. FEU was loaded already with Mac Baracael, JR Cawaling, Benedict Fernandez, Paul Sanga, Reil Cervantes, Robert Kave from Papua New Guinea, Aldreach Ramos, Mark Barroca, Jens Knuttel, etc

Then also in Team B was RR Garcia (he was loaned to Nokia U18 Boys National Team) and Pipo Nuondoo of Cameroon who were sure to be elevated.

There was simply no room for them that time. You have to remember that FEU together with Ateneo and La Salle are usually among the teams that is first prioritized by players out-of-high school when they go to college.
