how did mexico being the host and all chose the hardest group
I think it shows they don't care if the win or not, they are popably just playing in this event because as host they are force to.

    really sad

Maybe they just have a bad scouting.

They probably saw the names USA, and last Panamerican cup champions Brazil, and thought "yeah they are the stronger group".

Training camp for the Pan American Team USA roster October 14-22. But the site has yet been revealed due to Colorado Springs unavailable. USAB's Pan American Committee will be contacting D-League players.

Latavious Williams was the first to be contacted.

its all depends on what kindo of team Brazil will send. Magnano will also coach at Pan and Brazil won the last two or three tournaments. So, i doubt that we wont send a contender (despite young) roster.

Puerto Rico used to send good rosters, but i would not bet in any nba playing the Pan...

Uruguay uses to play complete and vecayse that they are in the same or higher level than Argentina. just remember that they defeat the argentines in Rio (who had some 2008 bronze medalist).

BTW, I just noticed that Puerto Rico is the only team in the Group A with a medal in the last 3 editions from the tournament. Canada never won a medal at all...

In the group B, every team won at least one medal in the last 3 editions.

So, if some team is blessed with a weak group it´s Puerto Rico by far...

For the record, the US hasn't won the Pan-Am tournament since Michael Jordan suited up for Team USA...in 1983! I hope the NBADL players have a better showing this fall then previous collegiate-based US teams. The game has evolved so much internationally that I believe it's asking too much of college kids to compete against seasoned national teams, even against the relatively weak Pan-Am field.

Right, considering that the NCAA top players pool is more and more weakened by early pros drafts...
Always for the record, the 1995 and 1999 USA teams competed with CBA players, finishing 2nd. in both tournaments.

I love seeing NCAA players compete...they have more heart than anybody else on any floor. But Federoy and Carlo are right. They just can't compete with the bigger, stronger teams of Latin America these days. I don't remember the CBA teams (anybody have the rosters? I Goggled, but couldn't find them), but the CBA, I think, at that time, was stronger than the NBADL.

Ah, yes. Thank you. This roster (from 99) is pretty awesome. All those players were big time NCAA players. I just don't know if the NBADL has that caliber of player right now. Most players who are good enough would rather player overseas.

Found in the NBADL page this strange 2010-11 players stats aggregating pts/rebs/ast. No big names are recognizable, at least tmk.

The top five D-League statistical leaders are all currently playing abroad. I can imagine having D-League rookies in the US Pan American Squad.

That 2003 USA team was made of good NCAA players, but strangely didn't perform well, finishing 2-3 and 4th overall.

Argentina selection participated to the Copa Oscar Moglia, Uruguay, winning with Venezuela and Cuba NT and losing to Uruguay (see thread in Americas Championship 2011).

Here the report of the first game.
