Actually his shooting was pretty poor, even by the standard of local players, during the CBA in 09-10. He struggled against taller defenders. But he can handle the tempo and Tianjin is a really bad team and could certainly benefit from a hard-nosed guard. He knew the system and sometimes would draw plays for the team during timeouts since the coach is a joke

For import updates, see my post #23

Here's the coaching changes since last season
Xinjiang: Jiang Xingquan replaced by Bob Donewald (Shanghai)
Zhejiang Lions: Wang Fei replaced by Jim Cleamons
Shandong: Bob Weiss replaced by Gong Xiaobin
Tianjin: Bob Mackinnon replaced by Zhang Jian (or Rony Fahed )
Shanghai: Bob Donewald replaced by Dan Panaggio
Fujian: Ma Lianbao replaced by Joey Stiebing

After a week in China... (CBA is still 2 months away)
Former Orlando Magic forward Earl Clark will be released from his contract with a Chinese Basketball Association team and will be free to sign with an NBA team as an unrestricted free agent whenever the lockout ends, Clark's agent said.

Happy Walters, who represents Clark, said the 6-foot-10 forward has returned to the United States because Clark's girlfriend is seven weeks away from giving birth to a baby boy and is having some complications.

"He wanted to be there and was not comfortable being in China with problems happening," Walters told the Orlando Sentinel via e-mail. "He is bummed, but family comes first.

"The team in China has been very supportive and understanding and they will release him from his contract," Walters added.
Rumors are saying the real reason is he can't stand Chinese food. (*** skip the following because it's a rant ***: why do Chinese people always show their hospitality by ordering exotic food for foreign guests! Pork ears, pigeons, sturgeon fish, snakes....It should have been simple!!! )

But IMO the REAL reason is there is a much bigger fish in sight for the Zhejiang Lions. Remember Earl Clark was the first NBA free agent to sign in China. Back then most people (meaning NBA players) still thought the lockout would have been resolved by September. Also that the kinds like JR Smith or Kenyon Martin would not be willing to play in the CBA for a smaller salary, with no opt-out clause. Obviously things have changed. Zhejiang Lions has a big budget so why settle on guys like Earl Clark if you can get ______? (fill in blank) Not to mention neither Clark nor Wilson Chandler (the other import) is a big man who can post up which is essential in the CBA (Clark despite 6'10'' is more of a SF).

I personally would like to see Nene going to China. The Nuggets would feature an All-D-league lineup once the lockout is over.

Isn't dual citizenship allowed in the CBA? Douthit has US and Philippine Citizenship so I think he can be considered as Asian import.

dual citizenship which are all asian citizenship is allowed (ex. if someone has phi and leb password could sign as asian import), but if somebody has non-asian passport or even had us passport would not be signed as asian import .

Ah so it means naturalized player cannot be considered as an Asian import. Okay got it thanks for enlightening me.

No news about this yet, there are only two clubs left who were allowed to sign asian import : Foshan and QingDao , so I think Michael Maadanly will join one of them if he would play in China as an asian import.

Since this player has a big fan-base in China, he may sign to play in the CBA:

Still no plans of inviting Filipino players even after our 4th place finish in Wuhan?

I think it's safe to say there are a lot of Filipino players better than the imports playing in CBA like the "shooter" Lin Chi Chieh of Taiwan.

Just out of curiosity, do all the CBA players playing under a foreign coach understand English? Or is there a translator with the team?

Taiwan's players are not considered as import but local players , and there are only 5 clubs allowed to sign one asian-import without dual citizenship , so there are only 5 slots and many Filipino players can't be considered as asian-import in CBA .

There is a translator with per team at least ~
