    Songaila didn't sign with Rytas

    Also you could add:

    Nenad Krstic (CSKA)
    David Andersen (Siena)
    Mustapha Shakur (Pau-Orthez)

These were former NBA players, except for Nenad, the moment last season ended. Basically Songaila or Summers did not play at all, Armstrong and Anderson were amongst the dozen worst bigs in the game.

So? All of them are NBA players that decided not to pursue further NBA plans, whether coincidentally with the lockout or because of it.

Look, the truth is, even without lockout they were playing in europe. That is a fundamental difference. To have a choice or not.

Sonny Weems despite being a restricted free agent, is reportedly signing with a team in Europe.

Great thread. At least we can monitor the player movements in this rather special offseason.

More importantly, we get to see if stars eventually do play outside the NBA even temporarily. Good to see it's just scrubs that have "left" the NBA so far-- though as one mentioned not necessarily because of the lockout.

Let's see if any among the American drafted rookies will play overseas; since all of them are un-signed to contracts, but teams do hold their draft rights.

    How legit is this rumor:

Real Madrid To Offer Six-Year Deal To Fernandez
    Jul 03, 2011 1:30 PM EDT

Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo reported on Sunday that Real Madrid will offer a six-year deal to Rudy Fernandez worth $4.35 million annually.

Fernandez is due $2.2 million next season and would become a restricted free agent in 12-13.

Fernandez was traded to the Mavericks on the night of the draft.

Fernandez is expected to honor the remainder of his NBA contract and then return to Spain.
    Via Dallas Morning News
Not very familiar with Euro's salary and contracts, so a) is it possible that they dole out that contract to Fernandez and b) are there any reports that Fernandez really wants out of the NBA (since this is a long-term contract Real is offering) despite the fact he got traded to the champion Dallas Mavericks, where he can have major minutes...

Also, if true, he'd be the first real "victim" from this lockout after all, he's really not a scrub (though not a star) to be involved in rumors...

Sounds like a legitimate offer from Real Madrid of ACB. I even read a similar story on an affiliated site by ACB. The documented desire of Fernandez to leave the NBA is among the factors on which this could be an eventuality.

Fernandez is due to make $2,180,443 in 2011-2012 but if the lockout ends up devouring the NBA season, I can see Fernandez signing with Real Madrid. I also see the scenario of Real Madrid negotiating with the Portland Trailblazers for the buyout of Rudy's contract and securing a FIBA clearance.

Like buter said, he's denied the rumor. I don't know. I have to think that he's looking forward to playing with the Mavs, since he'll probably be the starter. But he can make more money in Spain. Most players always take the money.

I think I disagree that they would all play in Europe. Those players (Anderson, Weems, Amrstrong, Shakur, etc) all were pretty good. It shocks me that Anderson couldn't find a home in the NBA. He has more talent in his off hand than most centers have in their entire body.

Also, there is no shame in playing in Europe. The leagues there are very high and a lot of a player's success at any level depends on the luck with coaches and compatibility with teammates.

with all due respect but you are wrong sr.

Summers went to Europe not becuase of the lockout but b/c he was release by the Pisntons and could not get a contrat elsewhere.
and Hilton and Darius did not have a NBA contrat either. HIlton was no given an extension by Atlanta b/c they did not want him back. and abnout Songaila I am not sure about his particular situation but I do know that his contract had expired by the end of the season.

Shakur is a D-leaguer and he did not had a NBA contract, David Anderson left the NBA a while back so his situation had nothing to due with the Lockout, besides he can't get acontrat to play in the NBA these days anyways.

I don't know about Kristic situation I think he was a FA too but I can be worng about this one, feel free to correct me if I am wrong

in any case these are scrubs player in the nba and I highly doubt they would have got a contrat with any team, it;s not like they were stars or even high ponettial prospects whe are talking about draft busts and 2nd round picks here,a dn as you can see most of these player did not leave teh NBA b/c of the lockout but b/c they could not get a contrat in the NBA or they where already gone before the lockout evne happened, in th case of Anderson for example he had been gone for like a whole year of more.

Weems averaged 9 points off the bench for Toronto last year. Gytaz, do you think he will make Zalgiris' roster? Aren't Pocius, Brown, and Delinkitis locked in for those SG/SF spots? Seems to me Zalgiris should find somebody to play behind Javtokas.
