    Default Jeremy Lin thread

According to SB Nation (Bay Area) Jeremy Lin is not interested in playing for a Professional Basketball Team in Asia during the NBA Lockout. Lin's agent stated the following statements:

"The No. 1 thing for Jeremy is to establish himself as an NBA player. We've never talked about making this or making that in terms of money, which he could do in Asia. Jeremy wants to be an NBA player."
"Jeremy is excited about the situation in Golden State. His role could be as a backup to Curry. With Mark Jackson coming in and talk of defense, defense, defense, that would be a positive. Nobody wants to lose a season. It would be a great opportunity for him coming back. So we're status quo. Now ... if the season is cancelled, then we'll have to look at Plan B."
Also, a nice editorial on the status of Lin playing for Taiwan:

Will he at least accompany the Taiwan National Team to Wuhan? His presence alone can possibly boost the morale of his team, despite the injury.

Ah, well.. It's a plus for the Philippines, but too bad for Taiwan. Jeremy is awesome in international competition!

Jeremy Lin Knee Injury Keeps Him Out Of FIBA Asia Championships

Jeremy Lin's decision on whether to pursue basketball opportunities overseas just got easier. Both China Taipei and China have jocked Jeremy Lin to play for their national teams and Lin has been non-committal about his intentions to stay in the U.S. But apparently, according to FIBA Asia, Jeremy Lin is no longer in China Taipei's summer plans as Lin has been advised by the Warriors medical team to rehab his knee this summer.

Knee injury? When did this happen and how? Running youth summer leagues? Talking at churches? Prepping for promotional Nike Asia tours? In the midst of the NBA Lockout, teams are worried about losing their best investment to a career threatening injury or any injury at all. Whether or not Lin has an injury, it is strange that the Warriors are against their third stringer, with a non-guaranteed contract, against playing overseas. Perhaps this just means Jeremy Lin will be a bigger part of the Warriors future.

Default Lin open to playing in the SBL?

Taiwan's SBL could be Jeremy Lin's choice if he decides to go overseas

The China Post--Jeremy Lin, the first Taiwanese-American in the National Basketball Association (NBA), yesterday said he is considering playing overseas if the NBA lockout stretches into next season, and that includes possibly playing for Taiwan's semiprofessional Super Basketball League (SBL). "If there is a NBA lock-out, I will definitely go overseas [to play professional basketball]," said Lin yesterday during a press conference held in Taipei yesterday.

In response to a reporter's inquiry if he is willing to play for the SBL, Lin said he is opened to every possible option.

"We are definitely open to everything right now but there is no 100 per cent yes or no," he noted.

The NBA locked out its players since July 1 after both players and team owners failed to reach a new contract. The lockout decision puts the 2011-12 season in jeopardy

During yesterday's press conference, the 22-year-old Harvard graduate noted that his knee injury is the only thing that is keeping him from joining Taiwan's national team in the upcoming 2011 FIBA Asia Championship.

Lin said now he cannot even jump or run, so he needs to focus on recovering from his injury first.

Taiwan's basketball federation previously included Lin in its 24-man preliminary roster for the tournament to be held at China's Wuhan, Hubei province next month.

Lin confirmed yesterday that he was consulted by both Taiwan and China's representatives to join their national teams during the past summer.

However, Lin said he had ruled out the possibility to represent China this year after a family meeting.

According to Chinese Taipei Basketball Association (CTBA) President Ting Shou-chung, Lin will not play for China because he will have to give up his U.S. citizenship.

Taiwan is more favorable to Lin since it recognizes dual citizenship, Ting added.

    Room for Improvement

Lin signed a two-year deal with his hometown Golden State Warriors last July, making him the first NBA player to be of Taiwanese descent, since both his parents are from Taiwan.

In his rookie season for the Warriors, Lin appeared in 29 games and averaged 2.6 points and 1.4 assists per game.

Talking about his past season's performance, Lin said yesterday he was disappointed but the experience also gave him reason to make adjustment.

"I did everything I could but the season didn't go as well as I predicted," he said.

Lin noted that he is now focusing on rehabbing his knee injury which will take another six to eight weeks before it can fully recover.

Lin returned to Taiwan to coach young hoops players in a series of summer camp events. He is also scheduled to take part in charity events over the next three days.
