^ And legally they still have a contract with the SBP, so as of now, even though they were drafted by the PBA Teams, they still belong to SBP.![]()

They do have "common sense"....its "partiotic sense" they are lacking as what can be seen from the past. But I am hopeful that this time it will be different.
Its funny though that as what Sir Nardy said, SBP is taking a gamble to appease one of the stakeholders...an NSA working to get into a stakeholder's good graces?![]()
Ahhh almost forgot about their contracts.
From what I remember Majority of the contracts expire Sept 30 while some end at Oct 15 but it has a provision that the contract can be extended in the event the team qualifies for the London Olympics.
But I do not know if there is any mention what happens if ever the team gets a slot in the Olympics Wildacrd Tournament.
IMOHO, I do feel whoever among the drafted players that makes it to the Final 12-man line-up will not be restrained by the PBA team that drafted him from playing at Wuhan.
But I do feel a number of teams might voice complaints with regards to that London provision. And am expecting some PBA teams would try to give pressure for Gilas to release ASAP the final 12-man line-up so that those not chosen can already start practicing with their respective PBA Team. So the plan of Gilas Management to bring all the 15-16 players in the final pool to Wuhan as their final trip together might not materialize.![]()
LABAN KUNG LABAN! KAYA NATIN PILIPINAS!
Mabuhay ang TEAM PILIPINAS !!!!
NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE!
THE DREAM LIVES ON !!!!
but remember guys no human contract binds the parties like the unbreakable vow does. if, let's say, lutz refuses to play in wuhan for reasons only known to SMC, then SBP cannot bodily force him. yes, he would be liable for breach of contract and sbp may very well sue their asses off for gazillion dollars but it cannot compel lutz to play for the nt. that's the huge gamble mang nardy is talking about. of course, this will never happen. smc has supported the national cause for countless times i dont think they'd stoop so low this time just to diss a corporate adversary.

time to focus on my own battles.
Which is their right, Nardy. If SBP wanted them back, they would have offered contracts much earlier-- and they wouldn't have declared for the draft. Can't blame the players, they aren't all Chris Tiu's, who can afford not to play in the PBA, so really SBP planned behind in all these. OR, this was their plan after all![]()
IF THERE IS NO BASKETBALL IN HEAVEN, I AM NOT GOING.
Haynako Sir Nards. Sumasama talaga loob ko sa basketball politics natin dito. Am truly and genuinely disheartened and hurt by the state we find ourselves inWe are a country not lacking in basketball talent. What we lack is unity. While other Asian powerhouses are united in their mission to achieve "world level" status, our country continues to find itself mired in "the palakasan" olympics of "sinabi ko sa inyo e."
Iran is not going anywhere, especially with a young core of Haddadi, Bahrami, Kamrani and Kazemi. These guys are set and will continue to dominate. China, with an aggressive and dominant Yi, are still Kings of Asian basketball. Korea has made great strides. Japan is getting better and better. Heck, who knows how much Chinese Taipei will improve in the future if ever they get Jeremy Lin to play for them. Then we have Qatar and Jordan to worry about as well.
What pisses me off is basketball leaders here seem to think that Asian basketball is a cakewalk. Ano kala nila? Matatalo natin ang powerhouses of Asian basketball while we continue to bicker amongst ourselves? 2 weeks left and our national team is prioritizing who gets drafted where and we have our pro reinforcements vacationing in the USA. Same old story of stumbling towards the finish. I pray to God that disaster will not strike us come Wuhan.
I love our national team so much but there's only so much disappointment one can take. As long as our country does not get its act together and unite, we'll continue to be stuck in mediocrity while we get left behind
Just an opinion of a frustrated and downtrodden national team lover![]()
Credit goes to CKR13 for this! Thanks so much!
We actually are in a better situation than countries like Thailand and even Kazakhstan, Lebanon and Kuwait. Their federations are in a bigger trouble.
Japan's federation is continued to be monitored by FIBA.
Chinese-Taipei has their own problems. Even Syria is now has its own crisis.
Jordan's problems are not yet that straigtened out .... just ask Rasheim Wright.
We need to be contended on what we have at the moment, we could be in a much worse situation. Just think if FIBA sided with the BAP group. Its not perfect, but it is moving at the right direction. As I said, we cannot get instant results. The damage done in the past made us lag behind the other countries, and even if we try to improve ourselves we cannot control that those countries who already overtaken or now at par with us will also try to improve themselves also.
Politics in the Philippines has touched everything in our country not only in basketball or in sports. Its not an ideal situation but we need to accept it and try to work around it if not within it.
If you cannot amaze people with your intelligence, confuse them with your stupidity.
i feel your pain Ariel and Nardy and everyone at SBP. You really just have to work better with the PBA. Barrios could be a key on this one-- assuming he holds a better relationship with the pro league, and from there we could really have a "long term" program that will bring us to international glory.
IF THERE IS NO BASKETBALL IN HEAVEN, I AM NOT GOING.
its frustrating. looking at the basketball scene in our country, its obvious there is enough talent and size to compete internationally. we have enough veterans and we do have a young generation of players who look like they have the tools to compete internationally, but politics and business come into play. Its understandable because the basketball federation here is not as powerful as the other organizations with interests in basketball.
anyway, the best we could hope for is for both sides to continue exposing the players in their stable to international competition so when the time comes for them to represent us internationally, they already prepared.
I do understand that. But the fact remains that these countries still get their best players to play form them. That's big and that's what matters in the long run. At the end of the day, you need your best players playing for you in international competition. Why? Because you're playing against other countries' best players.
You guys are right though. This can all be sorted out with better communication and relationship with the PBA. Ket's hope Sonny Barios can ease some of the tension that existed before between both leagues.
On a final note, it's quite frustrating to see Smart Gilas, with the Asian Championships less than 3 weeks away, have to deal with issues like the PBA draft and missing players. How are we supposed to integrate all the PBA players in 2 weeks?! And I though things would be different this time and we could come prepared. That's what's frustrating.
And in case you guys haven't heard, Arslan Kazemi is going to join the Iranian National Team. Good luck to everyone else in Asia with that.
