Rain or Shine thinking of trading first round pick
Rey Joble, InterAKTV · Thursday, August 9, 2012 · 9:36 pm
Newly-crowned Governors’ Cup champion Rain or Shine proved that it is one of the deepest teams in the league after winning the first title in franchise history. Because of that, coach Yeng Guiao hints that the team may not need to reload in the upcoming rookie draft.
“We don’t want any more duplication in our players’ positions. Most of the talented players who will enter the draft are forwards, wingmen and guards,” Guiao told InterAKTV in a telephone interview. “What we need now is a legitimate center. Right now, the only center I see who’s ready for the PBA is June Mar Fajardo.”
The Elasto Painters won the Governors’ Cup with Best Import Jamelle Cornley manning the slot for the team.
Fajardo, a 6-foot-10 center out of Cebu, is expected to be picked first overall by the Petron Blaze Boosters. Rain or Shine owns the No. 7 pick in the draft, and Guiao said the team may trade it.
The rebuilding Alaska Aces, which owns the second pick in the draft, expressed their interest in the Rain or Shine pick.
“I’ve inquired on the No. 7 pick to see what can we offer,” said Alaska coach Luigi Trillo.
But things could still change between now and the draft, which is set on August 19, according to Rain or Shine assistant coach Caloy Garcia.
“We have an injured point guard,” he said, referring to Rookie of the Year Paul Lee, who is expected to be out four to five months after shoulder surgery, “and we have several players with expiring contracts.”
Garcia also noted that Gabe Norwood and Jeff Chan may still be playing for the SMART-Gilas Pilipinas national team, which is scheduled to play in the William Jones Cup in August and the FIBA Asia Cup in September.
He added that the team would evaluate each offer.
“We have to find out what can they give in return. If it’s a player of our need, then a trade is a possibility. If it’s a future pick, then it should be of equal value,” he said.
Rain or Shine would also need to re-sign several key players. Seven Elasto Painters are up for renewal this offseason. PBA All-Defensive Team member Jireh Ibañes, Ronjay Buenafe, Jervy Cruz, JR Quinahan, Ronnie Matias, Chito Jaime, and Jonathan Uyloan all have expiring contracts.

Regarding this one, I just want to quote ferrari21's post in the other forum. I think this one's more accurate.
snow badua @snowbadua
"Gusto talaga ni KAP malipat dito yung bespren niyang ILONGGO eh. Tapos balang araw sana magka PURE ENERGY na rin. Kumpleto na tropa di ba"
Did you know that Gary David, Ronald Tubid, Homer Se, and Wynne Arboleda are close friends? Barkada/tropa yan sila. If I'm not mistaken, they were teammates before at Air21/FedEx. "KAP" in this tweet refers to Wynne Arboleda. He wants his bestfriend Ronald Tubid (born in Iloilo; an "ILONGGO") to join him at Air21. And perhaps "PURE ENERGY" Gary David will join them soon and kumpleto na yung tropa.

Talks on the sidelines of the PBA planning session here are the coming rookie draft. With 6-foot-9 Cebuano behemoth Junmar Fajardo as the consensus top pick by Petron, Alaska assistant coach and assistant team manager Dickie Bachmann said they prefer either Fil-Am Cliff Hodge or San Sebastian star Calvin Abueva as the second choice. Mondragon said Rain or Shine is looking at the best available big man. If there’s no longer available good frontcourt player in their turn at seventh, Mondragon said they might trade their draft rights. Coach Yeng Guiao has earlier expressed his intent to keep his team intact.
If the legitimate center with basic qualities that needs a bit of developing which Yeng Guiao needs would not come from the Rookie Draft then there's a big probability that Rain Or Shine would exchange their #7 Draft Pick for Samigue Eman who is Luigi Trillo's player at Alaska.
The above would result in Alaska having the #2 and #7 picks becoming the center piece of Luigi's re-building of the team. The #2 is a toss-up between Cliff Hodge and Calvin Abueva. While the #7 could be Calvin Abueva, Chris Ellis, Vic Manuel, Alex Mallari or Ronald Pascual whoever is still available by that time (note this could be Trillo's order of priority). If Alaska picks Hodge at #2, there's a possibility Abueva could still be available at #7 but if they pick Abueva at #2, it's a sure thing Hodge would already be gone before the #7 pick is called.
Please also note both the Rain Or Shine Team Management (1) and Coach Yeng Guiao (2) traded their players after they joined the National Team
(1) In the 2010 Asian Games when then Rain Or Shine Guard Sol Mercado joined the SMART GILAS TEAM PILIPINAS, he was traded to SMART's sister company MERALCO BOLTS
(2) In 2007 when Enrico Villanueva of Red Bull coached by Yeng Guiao was selected to the SMC-RP Team National Pool, he was traded to the SMC's San Miguel Beermen
So I do see the possibility of Jeff Chan being traded away. But the case of Gabe Norwood is different as I think there is a gentleman's agreement between Gabe and ROS owners, Raymond Yu and Terry Que, after he was drafted and signed-up that he'll be allowed to suit-up for the National Team since that's the primary reason he came to the Philippines.
