Iverson to Host Vegas Tourney with NBA Players

Updated: Monday, 24 Oct 2011, 3:14 PM EDT
    Published : Monday, 24 Oct 2011, 3:14 PM EDT

(NewsCore) - Former NBA superstar Allen Iverson will host a two-day basketball tournament featuring NBA players in Las Vegas next month, Yahoo! Sports reported Monday.

Iverson, who has not played in the NBA since 2010, is expected to captain and play for one of four teams in the Las Vegas Superstar Challenge, scheduled to take place Nov. 12-13 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

The tournament could be an opportunity for Iverson to prove he can still play with the best following a lack of NBA interest last season, which led the former MVP to a brief playing stint in Turkey.

Current NBA stars taking part in the tournament could include Kevin Durant, Amar'e Stoudemire and Paul Pierce, sources said. Iverson is expected to announce rosters and captains for the teams at a press conference next week.

As the NBA lockout approaches its fifth month with no end in sight, the league's top stars have begun planning similar non-league events, including a six-game, four-continent exhibition.

The proposed tour, organized by an Atlanta businessman, reportedly would include Kobe Bryant, LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and reigning MVP Derrick Rose. Stoudemire also has stated in interest in participating in the NBA World Tour, according to the New York Post.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the first day of the Las Vegas games are scheduled to conclude in time for the players to attend the Nov. 12 welterweight title fight between Manny Pacquiao and Juan Marquez.

i do agree with you that this won't be an easy fight for either man. i will just give a slight edge to manny for the quality of opposition he since have had compared with marquez. hmmmm, as to the other thing that you've said that it will bring honor to the country of each combatant? hmmm... last time i check, they are prizefighters and not fighting for any country. they just happened to be a Filipino and a Mexican earning a living through beakbusting. it will bring lots of money to their bank account first and foremost my friend. no more no less. this is just my take. no offense meant to you and the rest. hey, i'm a big fan of pacman since his blow by blow days!

Unlike marquez's ancient/old methodological preparation for the fight against Mayweather(eat eggs in the morning, lift heavy rocks, etc), Marquez went in to a more scientific way. And its evident with how his body looks now.
In the mayweather fight, Marquez had bloated belly and lots of fats. Now he is ripped and bigger and looks stronger.
i just wonder how his speed will fare against pacman.

    btw, here's episode 2.

    OT

Do you know who's the little guy that Mayweather mentioned that he'll fight?
    Nope, NOT pacquiao!
    Its Erik Morales! WTF?!

Floyd never fails to make a press 'play' everytime Pacquiao's fight is near.
Maybe he thought people would think he will fight manny already by that "little man" that he mentioned.

They will announce it soon. To avoid a match against Pacquiao early next year. Coz they cant do it after Pacquiao's fight. Coz people will ask why not wait for pacquiao's fight to end and negotiate for next year.

remember when pacquiao fought against cotto? Pacquiao was badly damaged.
Mayweather then challenged pacquiao for an early March fight date. Maybe he thought Manny wouldnt agree because he was injured after the cotto fight. Then surprisingly, Manny agreed. Then Mayweather quickly made up the story that pacman was taking PEDs and demanded the steroids test. Pacman agreed to take the test not but near the fight night. Then agreed to another test right after the fight in the dressing room. But Mayweather insisted in random testing even days before the fight. silly.
Then he was video taped announcing that he'll fight pacquiao. Then after a few days when he was asked if he will definitely fight pacquiao already, he said "dont put words into my mouth! i never said that!" lol

Then he questions pacman's rise in different weight divisions. That's a silly accusation! The Fact is, Mayweather and Pacquiao both have the same history in moving up in weight divisions! thats a fact! Mayweather even reached higher weight even though they both started at the same weight from the start of their careers. So why question Pacquiao's rise in weight divisions? he's afraid of pacquiao.

Pacquiao is a southpaw. not just a southpaw but a fast strong southpaw which can contest the ultimate philly shell defense that Mayweather is using. Pacquiao is the type of boxer that when get hit wont back down but instead be more willing to trade and exchange which is not good for maywewather's defense. Pacquiao is a volume puncher and punches in fast, strong and weird angles which is capable of landing a sure punch against mayweather's defense. Nonito Donaire explained it in one of his videos in youtube.

mayweather keeps on saying that he's undefeated and he is the greatest of all time. That pacquiao is an easy fight for him and he doesnt need pacquiao because he can easily make money even if its not pacquiao that he's fighting.
If that's the case, then why not fight pacquiao? Its what the FANS want.

and now he'll be fighting MORALES? wtf?
morales will accept that for sure. its millions of this -> $

golden boy promotions just denied the news that bob arum shared to the media, morales - mayweather fight, saying that floyd wants the big fight, and said its pacquiao-mayweather.

lol only fools would believe that! mayweather wont fight pacquiao. goldenboy promootions s*cks.

if you think pacquiao will demolish marquez in just 1 round and had actually bet on a first round KO, think twice and re-bet!
Chono trinidad just reported on gma7 that pacquiao seems distracted.
Pacman got mad at alex ariza, his conditioning trainer, due to too much dictation. Then manny threw his cellphones(yep with an 's' coz it was 2 phones)
that caused the glass in the table to get shattered!. It seems like manny was mad because Jinkee Pacquiao, his poor wife. Pacman has too many chicks kasi. tsk tsk.

they cant let marquez win because almost all bigtime gamblers bet on pacman.
and maybe they want a pac-mayweather fight to make boxing stay alive

imagine if marquez won, the sport of boxing will die. or will be half dead.

    bob arum is really powerful

    i really thought marquez won.
maybe i was just shocked at jmm's incredible performance...
i want to see the replay! any links?

wait. i think i was fooled watching the livestream.
watching it on tv now. Gma 7 lol

most of marquez's awesome counter punches were not landing clean and solid pala.

so far pacman is leading in my score cards 4 rounds to 3.

just saw the replay and most of the rounds were really hard to score... Pacquiao was the aggressor, but got countered by Marquez half of the time. counters always appear more flush than face-tags which Pacquaio did some of. i thought Marquez won by a round but he wasn't necessarily robbed as what the guys at DZBB suggested when i was listening to the radio (they were commentating as if Pacquiao couldn't get inside). i could understand the 114-114 and 115-113 scores... maybe they favored the more active person than the one dishing out more punishment and dictating the pace of the fight, but 116-112? that's a Pacman fan.

YOU GUYS says PACMAN "LOSE" coz you've been affected by this game of PACMAN witch is not really good unlike his previous fights this fight is the "WORST FIGHT" ive ever seen from him. We are just used on seeing pacman sending his opponents to the hospital in his previous fights. Now that he faced his kontrapelo again, and is having toe-to-toe with him in the ring most of the people got shocked and dissappointed. I think he deserves the win , not convincingly though.

everybody knew that Pacquiao is the title holder and marquez was d challenger. A challenger should make the move how to bring back the title for him by knockin down pacquiao as wat paquiao did frm d previous fight or totally dominate pacman, but Marquez didnt make it to the point. even d first fight of them pacquiao knck down marquez 3 tyms bt still d decision was draw.. cuz they protctng aswell the champion... dats d difrnce btween a challenger nd d title holder u should mke d best move of yours to have the title again..Marquez was just waiting for pacs attack and then he counterpunch but not that solid. Pacquiaos was the busiest of the two and landed more punches .
