(article with some intriguing numbers)
One of the most underrated perfomances in this Preolympics games was from Alex Garcia.
The defense specialist made miracle playing 1x1 against some of the best players of the tournament.
In fact, Brazilian NT played individual defense in 98% of the time (Magnano didnt use more than a total of 10 minutes of zone defense in the entire tournament) and Alex Garcia played full time against the best guard/wing opponent (exception of the game 1, against Vásquez, when Magnano used some other players to guard the venezuelan for some few minutes).
In the key victories against Argentina and Rep. Dominican, Alex played a total of 79m48s (insane) playing 1x1 against Manu and Garcia.
Well, defense isnt much appreciated everywhere, but I'd rather Garcia in the FIBA Americas Best Five than Huertas. He was the perfect ilustration of a great defensive team.
Amazing defender and enery player.
Buut..Terrible offensive choices, his right-handed hook shot pisses me off sometimes.
erm, no. good defender, yes, one of the best in the world, no.
Hate his offensive selection.
But he does bring something to the team that helps them win
...and since his wife hates to live in Europe and Alex has no balls to stnad up to her (believe me, I witnessed it myself) , he will play only in Brazil...![]()
I just have found some nice videos.
Garcia's key block in crunch time from game 2 of NBB final series against Franca (Brasilia won this game and then the series by 3 x 1).
